  • Thank You!

Thank you for this very valuable insight and information! I'm copying it and sending it to automatic delegates in my area. I was in Memphis in 2000 for our "victory celebration" for Al Gore. I never thought I might have to experience another sneakily stolen election -- especially from someone in the party I have supported so strongly for many years. I have MANY serious questions and concerns about Obama's ideology and intentions. Unfortumnately, his actions are simply exacerbating those concerns -- causing me to more and more seriously consider such possibilities as writing Clinton in in November or sitting out the election. His shenanigans fly in the face of true democracy.

  • Re-enfranchising Florida and Michigan

Thanks to Hillary's foresight in her handling of the situations in the Florida and Michigan primaries from the very beginning, there is a clear method for discerning the "will of the people" who voted in those primaries. Thanks to Hillary's consistently agressive insistence and action since those primaries, the DNC has now indicated the delegates from those states will be seated. Thanks to Hillary's continuing agressive insistence and action, I trust the popular vote for those states will also be counted in this process. Hillary showed she was the better lawyer in the whole matter as the best lawyers know you always create a good record -- in the event of need for an appeal. Obama comes closer and closer every day to assuring a Democratic loss in November in at least Florida if he continues on the path he's on with this issue and wins the nomination. We cannot afford to lose Florida.

    Re-enfranchise all voters!!

  • Here's Looking At You

Arguments that Clinton wants to CHANGE the rules for her benefit are based on a false premise. The fact is, the disenfranchising punishment for Florida and Michigan moving up their primary dates allowed for two options for possibly re-enfranchising those states. These options ARE within the rules. Obama supporters within those states' legislatures and the Obama campaign did, in fact, actively worked to squelch re-voting initiatives which would have been permissable under the DNC rules. The other possible action is appeal to the credentials committee which I expect Obama would also attempt to thwart unless there are more members of that committee who support him. Does Obama not realize the superdelgates are watching? Does Obama not realize the people of Florida and Michigan are watching? As are many others, I might add.

  • Whose votes count and whose don't?

Sadly, there have been other laws, etc. in the past that have disenfranchised voters for one reason or another -- most notoriously Jim Crow laws. Any such laws, etc. should never be allowed for the purpose of disenfranchisement. Ever heard: "Where there's a will, there's a way?" A way could have been found. It can't be denied that Obama supporters (and Republicans) actively thwarted any and all efforts to find a re-voting solution. Pretending otherwise does not make it different than what it was. Any position advocating disenfranchisement is a very slippery slope. One cannot reasonably expect the voters of Florida and Michigan to say: "It's O.K. I'll vote for you even though you fought tooth and nail to keep my vote from being counted."

You could be having a much sadder one in November! -- sleep tight! I don't expect the phone will be ringing for you at 3!

  • Options

There are more options than voting for McCain -- writing in someone or simply staying home -- something like a "girlcott!"

It's too bad some see any opposing view as being "racist." I've personally done MUCH civil rights work in the deep south -- even come home with bullet holes in our car from working to keep black clients out of the electric chair. Get a grip!

Had I been there at the time, I would have been on the same side of the hose as you. I HAVE been guarded by a small town local sheriff with a police dog in the back of his pick up truck while we had first ever demonstrations in a small southern town because one of our lawyers was in jail for contempt of court for trying to recuse a trial jusge on the grounds of racism -- a white lawyer. Just because someone does not agree with you does not mean they are racist.

It's not at all that Oregon doesn't count!!!! Every state counts -- EVERY vote counts. Hillary has been the only candidate working to assure that Oregon even has a voice at all -- remember the many who have tried to stop the voting? It's just that (presently at least) the bigger states have more ELECTORAL votes and therefore will have more clout than other states in November.

Even though your question reeks with sarcasm, I'll answer. Actually we saved many people -- black and white -- mostly men -- from execution. We personally represented at least 25 -- mostly black because we chose clients who are most likely to be executed. Since the death penalty is so strongly racially skewed against people who are black, those clients were the most likely to be executed. Over time, the work done has served to save many with no way of knowing exactly how many. Those in Illinois can be counted as that state pardoned all on death row at one time

Actually, courgette, just as I've been making the point that not all white people who disagree with some Obama supporters are racist, not all Democrats are irrational or idiotic. Trust me, you haven't SEEN irrational or idiotic until you've seen most Republicans!
