Dear Voter,

With election day right around the corner, we here at Verivote (tm) want to bring to your attention this new opportunity to insure that your vote is properly counted.

According to alieninterference.com, top secrete psionic brainwaves will be broadcast by the Vorgon Overlords to prevent your vote from being properly counted. To counteract this effect, we here at Verivote have developed the Aluminum-wrapped cellulose-based headgear with propeller disrupter to prevent voter fraud.

Please make the right choice this year, and equip yourself with the latest technolgy to carry out our proud voting traditions.

Sound byte that will be heard from Bush surrogates over and over...

After the Right gets trounced:

"The (Pick one) Economy/War in Iraq/GWOT/Middle East situation/Employment numbers/War against the gays is on the upswing, and should remain so as long as the new administration stays the course."

Another prediction/wish

That if Obama wins anything more than Keryy states plus Ohio or Florida, Rahm Emmanual will sit down at Howard Dean's table and eat some crow.

My Aunt and Uncle live in Maryland...

...But they have been in Virginia for the past week, living with one of the many people who generously opened up the home to volunteers from many places.

My Aunt and Uncle have fought for progressive causes for 40 years or more, starting with getting arrested protesting Vietnam, union organizing, and fighting for social causes and against corporate interests on a national, state, and local level, right down to the present day. Through the years they have put themselves out there for every Democrat, in every election, from president down to state and local offices.

Since Reagan, they have seen much of their hard work turn to shit. Deregulation, devaluation of workers, divisive politics...But this did not deter them...They are true blue patriots who believe in equality for all, even though they are just a couple of middle class white New York Jews, with regular jobs (Now retired), raising 2 kids (Now grown).

In Virginia, they are doing the hard work that needs to be done, in the Fredricksburg area, knocking on doors, making calls, driving voters to the polls today.

In a year that may turn, in part, on Virginia, I am so proud of them and their contribution in this election.

Original article: Benchmarks for Barack

"Obama will receive more votes for president than any candidate in presidential history. "

I seem to remember this being said of each of the last presidents, even Bush, who received less votes than Gore in 2000.

Since the population has also grown, isn't there a more meaningful way to look at this number? Actual voters vs. registered vs. total population? Or something like that?

But, but, but...

"The GOP is very close to being nothing more than a broken regional party, confined almost entirely to the Deep South and a few small, scattered states in the Midwest,"

While I agree in principal that the back of the GOP has been broken, looking at the map, I would not describe the soild red midwest (except NM, CO, IA, possibly MO) as "A few small scattered states". This is a contiguous block of hard core conservatives, and while Dean and Obama have made inroads, I would say that it will be at least a couple more presidential cycles before more significant progress is made. It is to these states that the GOP will retreat to make its next stand.

Conservatives like to look at the map as if property ownership should determine the vote.

On the justices, I think Souter might hang in there for 4 or 8 years. He is an odd duck, and a dedicated justice. Not that the others are not, but really, SCOTUS IS his life.

What is the road for Prop 8, assuming it passes? Could this come before SCOTUS?

Many of you have probably seen this,

But just in case:

http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/11/03/081103fa_fact_talbot?currentPage=all

The first half is about red state babies having babies, but in the second half, there is some good discussion about the hypocracy of red staters telling blue staters how they should be marrying and raising their kids.

Before Rahm is allowed in...

...He should be made to recant his over-the-top hysterical opposition to the the 50 state stratagy, and apologize to Dean.

It means...

Politics as usual, will become more and more unusual.

The Center - The new Right

The Democrats have already established themselves as centrist...And why not? That is where most Americans are. Obama is likely to follow that lead.

If Obama and the Democratic majority can re-establish the finacial responsiblility exercised under Clinton, maybe we will see the establishment of a left-of-center Progressive party that will become the new opposition.

Republicans will fade away.

Buck up or buck off

But whatever you do, don't pass the buck!

We must unite around this mos pressing issue of our times! From now on, citizen's interested in expressing their opinion shall write an email to the media, or their representative...But you need to know that it is not enough to simply send the email - You must print out the email and buy youself a plane ticket, and personally deliver that email to the recipent.

Because, y'know, it gets there more better. Unfortunately, these days, those commie airlines charge you extra for the soapbox, 'cause it doesn't fit in the overhead bin.

Good this that War Room is all over this story for the Nth straight day

Because we haven't finished the second-guessing, self-defeating over-analysis yet.

What Palin decides now signals where she is going.

If she intends to run in 2012, she will stay in her Gov. chair. Going into the Senate would force her to vote on issues that would be used against her in a presidential run.

This year was the rare exception to the rule that Senators almost never get to the White House - Notice that the person with the least time in the Senate was the one to win. There is a reason for this.
