Nitpicking, I know...

And I hate to seem to insist that Glenn explain every little detail. But when I read this, from the article:

"...that while cultural wedge issues have divided ordinary American on the Left and Right, there is a growing, angry populism among both factions against the dominant Washington establishment elite..."

I was not entirely convinced. No, I haven't read the book referenced, but I wonder if Glenn, or anyone, could tell me what populist movement there is on the Right that is angry at the Washington elite over this issue?

Certainly there are some old-school fiscal conservatives in the GOP who have been unhappy with the way things are going, but populism on the Right? I mean, that would be great, and a great opportunity for Obama to peel off votes, but...

Zenwick, bottoms up!

I, also, have thought that we should start with keeping people in their homes, help them with the principal, reduce their payments and let them write their mortgage check to the feds.

Why would it be necessary to do title searchs and liens? I don't know enough about the details to know why this would be necessary. All the info is right there in the original contracts between the banks and homeowners, I would think.

Of course, the feds should just take the losers - They should also take over whatever money making aspects of these same companies there are, to balance things out. Then dissolve the companies.

"there's still no explanation for why the Dem leaders could not keep their coalition together."

Because. this. bill. sucks.

McCain still has time to dump Palin

I really though she would be gone by now.

Bowing out, to "spend more time with her family", she would garner sympathy for McCain, who could then "aw shucks" his way into finding a more conventional replacement - Probably Huckabee, for the base.

She was a token, disposable choice from the start. She has been useful, and now has outlived her usefulness.

Okay. We tried Bipartisianship

It doesn't work.

Thanks for playing.

Now, let's pass something like the proposal from Reich, with a little populist enhancement from Sanders

just to twist the knife a little. You gotta love Bernie. If the Democrats can line up for this, we can force the Right to fall in line or fall apart.

Original article: McCain gets testy

Right, Elephant

Those pesky reporters shouldn't be asking actual, relevant questions. They need to simply show, write down what the candidate says, and report it...

Maybe if McCain actually answered the question, it would not have to be asked twice.

"How do you solve a problem like Sarah Palin?"

Easy.

During the debate tonight, Biden should cede all his time to Palin, and allow the moderator to conduct what amounts to another interview.

Problem solved.

On the radio

My wife and I listened to the debate on the radio, so we missed the winking, and other visuals.

Biden won hands down. With some exceptions, he was clear, direct, and effective. He addressed Ifill and McCain, and stayed clear of anything that could remotely be contrued as an attack on Palin. When he rebutted assetions by Palin, he did it well. When he choked up, I did also.

Palin's "folksy" demeanor came off as cloying, darn it all. She just strings words together to fill what would otherwise be dead air. She does not speak in sentences, does not put together coherent thoughts into understandable ideas, and conflates dissimilar ideas into confusing sound lumps, not bites.

It's time for this hockey puck to get slap shot back home.

Incest breeds bad babies

"A potent reflection of our predominant political culture is the fact that people like Dick Morris can not only exist, but thrive within it.

In this political petri dish, all of our little culture warriors are boinking each other. The warm glow of the teevee rivets them into myopia. People like Morris can only exist within it.

Bring 'em out into the daylight, though...

I can't watch the video at work...

But a while back, when you posted a video of her previous debate performances (All worried that she was gonna ace the debate with Biden - Not.), I did notice that her accent was much less pronounced.

I've also heard a little southern twang sneak in there, seems to me.

15 minute Q&A? 15 minutes?

That could describe the metaphorical duration of her fame, as well as the actual duration of the amount of time she can spend blabbering a nonsense answer to just one question.

She's gonna be a Jeopardy answer on 11/5.

A while back...

On This American Life, they had a segment where they asked people, given a choice between two superpowers (Being invisible and flying), which they would choose, and what they would do with these newfound abilities.

As I remember, almost no one said that they would use their power for good deeds.

We've handed some superpowers over to our leaders. They are not using them for good deeds.

Now, if they had used these superpowers to tap the phones of the catholic diocese, to record calls made to those overseas terrorists at the vatican, to find out which priests are raping kids...I would be for that.
