You miss the point.

I don't give a crap whether the KKK can hear my counterprotest. It's the rest of the country, watching on TV, that needs to get the messege.

This was put to particular effect in my state (VT) during the Civil Union debates. The bigots showed up. The left showed up. The left showed the people what the bigots were made of. THe bigots went home.

Same with FOX. It may not be the ideal medium, But as their audience gets winnowed down to the hardcore right, we should not cede even this small part of the electorate without taking them on, head on.

You all might have noticed...

That she only wiped her LEFT eye.

I wonder what that means?

McGee

If you wanted to avoid petty sniping, namecalling, half truths and wild accusations, you came to the wrong place, and clearly you're in the wrong party. Why fight against the Right when we can beat each other up all by ourselves?

There is no immolation like self-immolation

Santorum

What a guy. THe main thing I remember about him, from NYT magazine article several years ago, was that he and his wife slept with their stillborn child the night they took him back from the hospital. Really creepy.

That said, McCains temper will be one of his main weaknesses in the general election

Dem Logic

Gore trying to get all Florida votes counted=Good

HRC trying to get all Florida votes counted=Bad

And before y'all get going with "apples and oranges" or some such logic, it's not. Votes are votes. Whether the original votes are counted, or there is some kind of re-vote, Florida (and Michigan) votes CAN NOT be marginalized in this election if the Dems want to win.

Wait, cancel that. We don't need warrants anymore!

Robert Franklin

I'm not so sure about that. McCain will have all this time to take pot shots at the Democrats, while Clinton and Obama are beating the crap out of each other, and reducing their resources.

It's not like the press is going to focus on the positives of the Dems.

Original article: Four more years

On Rice

About a year, year and a half ago, I assumed that Rice would be throwing her hat into the ring. Why? Because she started the Condi Rice World Tour, visiting Russia, multiple Middle East countries, etc. I think that she was looking for a political coup to hang her hat on, an accomplishment that she could put her name on.

That didn't happen, and probably won't.

I think the intent was to separate her from Bush - You will notice that they are not joined at the hip these days, as they in the first years of the administration.

2012, maybe?

Back to the future

The one thing that the right has been able to do, that the left, has not, is unite. Ambivelance about Kerry (And to a lesser extent, Gore) in certain circles scuttled his election. The right, largely through the efforts of a few key people (Norquist comes to mind immediately) were able to persuade their various factions that they could all get what they wanted if they stayed united. The right is practical. Liberals tend to be more idealistic. Thus our inability to unite, and thus all the vitriol that gets spilled across these posts at Salon.

In the end, the right is falling apart. The immoral minority is relatively unsatisfied by what Bush has accomplished for them, fiscal conservatives are generally appalled by...everything Bush has done.

Bush is to the left what Coulter thinks McCain will be to the right. I doubt it. Kids are getting more and more progressive, and are voting more and more.

Now that we are looking at a fractured republican party, the question is, can the Democrats unite?

I love how so many of you people think "Anonymous" is the problem

Or trolls are the problem.

Definition of a troll, from what I can see: Someone who disagrees with you. Y'all are as bad as republicans who lable judges as "Activist"

Guess what. You all are the problem.

Sidenote to Captain Lara B: Spot on.

Filthy Harry

While there are occasionally letters like

"[Candidate] is stupid", It is far more common here for someone to be called a troll because of opposing views. At least from what I've seen.

Just say no...to primaries

What a mess.

So, we have what are essentially 2 private organizations vying for power, doing their best (although, if this is their best, I'd hate to see their worst)to paint so semblance of democracy onto what is really a publically funded whitewash of what increasingly seems like an oligarchy.

I say, let the Democrats pick their nominee by banks of monkeys typing - The person whose name shows up first, wins.

Seriously, after this year, No more primaries - It just reinforces the two party power structure.

As far as this year, how about...The person with the most votes (NOT delegate votes) wins. This must include Florida (Which was more evenhanded), with Michigan (Which was not) as a redo in July-ish if it looks like it would make the difference.

Original article: A supersize controversy

Yeah, Juliebird..

Great minds DO think alike.

But, I was sitting here thinking about the poor people of Michigan if they do, in fact, do a revote...Talk about the plauges of Egypt redux. Boils, toads, locusts, all manner of bloodsucking creatures will decend upon the state...And then, when it's all done, people will point to MI saying "They decided the election"

An unenviable position, unless you're a complete narcissist.
