Good article but..
[Read the article: How to turn white evangelicals into Democrats]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It is a two ways street. Evangelicals need stop trying to impose their religion on others through government policy.
Religious belief is private and should be kept that way. The corner stone of our Democracy is separation of church and state. This principle has been violated by attempts to insert Christian prayer in school, give pubic money to private religious schools, make abortion illegal, keep gays from enjoying the same civil liberties as straights, teaching abstinence only sex educaton, the lsit goes on.
Religion does not belong on the political scene at all. It was inserted by the Christian political right beginning in 1980s with Jerry Falwell's Moral Majority. Before that time there was more respect for Evangelicals like Billy Grahamn as he did not try to insert his religion into government policy. This is how evanaglicals came to get such a bad name. Many hooked up with the Christian political right who took over the republican party.
The reason many evangelicals do not know that 90% of Planned Parenthood's work is to reduce abortion is not because of PP. It is because evangelical churches joined with the Catholic church led pro-life movement to spread lies about what it meant to be pro-choice and support reproductive choices.
The truth is some evangelical churches allowed themselves to be used by the Pat Robertson's, James Dobson's and Jeryy Falwell's of the world. It seems they are finally realizng they were just being used and it is the Democrats who really support family values, values that support real families

Oh NO
[Read the article: It's OK to vote for Obama because he's black]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]In some respects I am upset about bringing race and sex into the into the Democratic primaries. On one hand I think it has been good as finally the issues of racism and sexism are being discussed in a pubic forum. On the other hand to vote for HIllary beacsue it is a woman's chance or Obama because it a chance for a black to be president is not a good reason to pick either for president.
I am a 62 year old white woman and I never thought one way about or the other about his race. However I have been rather upset upset by those of my friends and family who just assumed because I was a woman, a political activist for many years, and a feminist that I would just naturally vote for Hillary.
I am along time Democrat, I have believed for a while that we need s a new infusion to lead this party. When I saw Obama give his speech at the 2004 conventions, I turned to my husband and said. "Now there's the kind of candidate the Democrats need to win". However, I did not come to my decision to vote for Obama over night. I did some research, read his book read, his policy papers, compared him other Democrats, checked out his experience. Then I heard him speak in SF August 2007. That closed the deal for me. Yes, I find Obama very exciting and inspirational but that is not the main reason I am voted for him. I especially like his foreign policy positions, his experience and knowledge Constitutional law, and his ethics. Obama is not divisive and that is is refreshing.
We need a refresher course in this country and Obama can deleiver it.

Obam was consistent
[Read the article: No Hail Mary for Hillary]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Hillary wavered from tough to whiny, Obama was, as usual, consistent and presidential.
MSNBC riled up Hillary in the beginning of the debate by contrasting the video of the orchestrated "soft" Hillary from the last debate with the "real" Hillary ranting about Obama's fliers. Then we had to listen to the same old argument on their health care plans for over 15 minutes. Hillary really gets riled up over this. Seems she can't let go of the fact she failed before.
Hillary whinny about being fielded questions first, then the Obama pillow comment was very juvenile. Obama defused the possible Hillary rants when MSNBC accidently (ya right) showed the video of Hillary mocking Obama. Obama did very well on the Foreign relations issues. Hillary did was good, except could not remember the name of the new Russian president.
What really bothers me about Hillary advisers and supporters is the fact they think beigntough and being a fighter is important nd a postive quality. I don't want tough. Tough is what got us into the mess in Iraq and our bad foreign polices decisions. The worse kind of manager is someone who fights to the end no matter what. The best manger defuses conflicts resolves differences, and moves forward. Obama has shown through his consistent and steady demeanor, he keen intelligcne that he has the qualities of a good manager and president.

Denouce vs Reject
[Read the article: No Hail Mary for Hillary]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That was another bad moment for Hillary. She's just not as good at "one up man ship" as Obama. Seems as if Obama has a better grasp of vocabulary meaning than Hillary as "Denounce" is a much stronger term than "reject".
Denouce: 1.To condemn openly as being evil or reprehensible. 2. To accuse formally.
Reject: 1. To refuse to accept, make use of or, 2. To refuse accept, submit to, believe, or make use of. 2. To refuse to consider or grant. 3. to refuse to recognize or give affection to (person).

Obam and Israeal
[Read the article: No Hail Mary for Hillary]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I was disappointed with Obama's statement on Israel. He gave no mention of supporting Palestine. As far as I'm conerend, much of the problems in the middleeast stem from our support of Isreal.
Israel does little to negotiate with Palestine. Israel has went beyond the borders given to them after WW2. The right wing in Israel has helped create Hamas with their actions and inactions.
Anyone who speaks a out against this is called Anti Semitic, yet I know many Jews who feel the same way.
