Increase in pregmancy rates

[Read more letters about this article: Here]When Clinton was president the rates of teen pregnancy and abortions went down. Since Bush has been prsident it has risen once again. Why? Because under"faith based" funding, "abteinence only" sex education programs are the only programs receiving federal funds these days.
Instead of putting girls in separate schools there should be more funding for compreshensive sex educations, and some public raltions effort into programs to educate these young wome about the consequences of sex, prengnancy and effect on economics.
I think this country needs to take a hard look at this problem and put more effort into discouarging teen births. Cut welfare mothers off after one child if they do not take contraceptives.
I remember in Iowa in the early 70s the welfare department encourageed women to get tubligations and paid for them. It was cheaper than paying for more welfare babies.
The federal government should fund this.
The U.S. needs to give up this morallity crap and talk reality

I think it is imoral, but then I think it is immoral to have more than 2 children. There are already too many people on this planet. If we really want to go Green we should be encouraging limiting births and discouraging invitro pregnancies. Instead let's cheer and praise those who abstain from having children.

I wish we woud lhave another population control discussion.

Liberal and Proud of it

[Read more letters about this article: Here]In the sixties the term most prominent in liberal politics was "Progressive". Progressives have allowed the republican right to define "liberal" and who we are. Democrats have moved to the center with Clinton to avoid criticism or fear of being defined as too too far to the left.
While many of the far left became far rightist and born again.
Bias against the word 'Liberal" was enhanced by the lose of balance in the media after Congress did away with the “fair and accuracy in the media” laws in mid 80s. In the early 90s while I was researching the Christian right, I watched the 700 Club on Christian Broadcasting Network. The term Liberal bias Media" was used daily on this show, thus creating a propaganda campaign against Progressive thought.
This propaganda campaign against "liberal" then migrated to the right wing talk radio
and main stream TV outlets and the likes of Coulter.
Coulter, and many Born Agains blame liberals and the Free culture of the 60s for their addictions, and seek a new addiction... religion.
Progressives candidates allow themselves to manipulated by this anti progressive campaign and react.
Candidates will not will not even admit they are liberal.
It time for Progressives (liberals) to be proactive, take pride in liberal (progressive) ideals and promote them.
It time for a new liberal revolution!

[Read more letters about this article: Here]I was involved in researching the Religious Right in the early 90s and spent a lot of time watching CBN and Pat Robertson's 700 club, a local CA religious programs, and reading a subscription, through a P.O box, of Operation Rescue's newsletter. The Militia movement was in full swing, abortion protests were violent and clinics were being bombed. Doctors were harrassed and killed. Operation Rescue's own new letters spoke of violence as means to their goals and spoke of support for the militia movement. Proof that the pro-life movement was very closely tied to the Christian Militia movement.
Yet there was no ranting in the main stream media about these home grown Christian terrorist.
I remember in particular one guy on local CA cable TV, who ranted about god, gays liberals, femi-nazies, while holding an automatic weapon in one hand. Then the Oklahoma bombing happened. Pat Robertson immediately blamed Arab terrorists. My immediate reaction was this is the work of the Christian Militia Movement. Even when the suspects were arrested, charged and convicted, little attention was paid to the fact that these guys were part of the militia movement. There was no ranting in the media about Christian terrorists. Shortly afterward the Christian fanatic with the gun disappeared off the local TV cable station and the home grown Christian terrorists went underground.
Meantime the Christian right has permeated the Republican party who now rant about Islamic terrorists.

Depend on yourself

It sounds as if you are assuming Bills intentions, and you may be to wishful in thinking Bill is going to SAVE you from your awful relationship. You must SAVE yourself.
Extract yourself fromyour current relatinship. You must make yourself happy first instead of depending on a man to do it. I suggest you become financially self suffcient first, take sometime to like yourself without a man, then think about a relationship.

Unbelievable Ignorance

[Read more letters about this article: Here]I happened onto CNN one night when they were doing a sereis entitled "Who is a Real Christian". The only Christians featured were right wing nuts and this Creation Museum was one of the features. I watched it as I could not beleive my eyes and the ignorance that supports this kind of nonsense. It is very sad that these religious fanactics choose to keep their children Ignorant of science and fact.
The msot incredible thing I saw was the interviews with the believers. Thisis a quote from a stary eyed teen who seemd to be "high" with relgious fervor: " Atheists must have a lot of faith if they believe in evloution". These children are being taught that only atheists believe in evolution.
I went to Cathlic a high school in the 60s. In our theology classes we were taught evolution, but that at somee point God infuseed a soul into man. In science calsses we were taught Darwin's theroy of evolution as proven science. Except for the pre-class prayers, religion and science were kept separate.
The only hope is that this Museum, like othr right-wing Chrstain rip offs, will some day lay in ruins like Jim and Tammy Fae's theme park.
