Bust Your bubbles

We need to stop putting people in voting categories based on gender, race and age. We are all being treated as if we have no brains outside our sex, skin color or age.

I'm one of those older white women who has put up with a lot of bull over the years from what I call "the old boys club". I faced sexual discrimination before laws were passed to prevent it. At the same time,in my career I attempted to stay away from the "victim" mentality, instead I took every opportunity to 'educate" the "old boys" on the errors of their ways. Female activists friends who were "African American, women of color, black women, educated me on the errors of my ways.

Although I am not supporting Sen. Hillary Clinton, I do still believe there continues to be much stereotyping in the press.

Hillary's performance in both the NH debates and her tear session, just made me feel she was reinforcing all stereotypes about women. However maybe I am wrong, maybe it is the way the press handled it that made it seem so. In any case voting for her out of sympathy or because she is a woman is no reason to give her a vote of confidence.

Females seem to be ignoring the " racial coding" going on by the press, and even Hillary, in regard to Senator Obama. On TV not just the "boys", I've seen plenty of young women on TV doing the same thing. Obama stayed away from the race card, but the press and pundits are not. Look at the crowds around Obama. You do not just see young people. All his crowds are very diverse. Young, old, female, male, blacks, whites and many other racial mixes.

Are the battles of the 60 &70s over? Some are, some aren't. We are still fighting to keep abortion legal and younger women seem to take it for granted. Younger women have a lot more choices now because of the battles people like Gloria Steinem and others fought for. However, Hillary is 60. So how involved was she in activism for women's rights? Not much. In fact on reproductive rights Obama has a stronger record. In 1964 Hillary was working on the Goldwater campaign and she has not moved far her republican roots.

Women are not marching lock step for Hillary, blacks are not marching lock step for Obama. White males are not marching lock step for republicans. Some of us are using our brains, looking at the issues, real experience, and the future. I think Obama is just as good for women's progress as Hillary and he will get my vote. In the end Democratic women need to pull together, even if our candidate does not win because women's future choices are at stake in this presidential race.

h0tr0d you are wrong

Obama's is very strong on feminist issues. Just because he believes in strong families does not mean he is not good on feminist issues. Obama hs a strong pro-choice record, and actually took a leadership on legislation for reproductive rights in IL. Hillary has NEVER taken a leadership position on reproductive choice.

Obama supports Civil Unions for same sex couple. He opposed the "Defense of Marriage Act".

Instead of assuming what he is for and against go to is site and read his positions on issues, and his "fact checker".

Obama beat her

Hillary reacts suddenly come out with a plan when the news looks bleak on the economy., but Obama laid out an economic plan long before Hillary went public with hers. He has been talking about it for months in both IA and NH. However Obama on the other hand, has a long term out look, not just a reactive plan.

Really hard questons

If Bill and Hillary are gingto criticiae Obama for having an inspirational hero, why don't you pundits ask Hillary what she was doing in 1964, when LBJ signed the Civil Right Act. I do believe at the time Hillary was a "Young Republicans" working on the Goldwater for President caampaign.

Bill is criticizing Obama for talking about inspirational leaders like Martin Luther King. However when bill was running for President, he was waving his photo of himself shaking JFK's hand.. Bill's hero and inspirtion.

Who are Hillary's hero's besides herself and Bill?

My observations

It seems to me that the Hillary campaign IS playing both the Race and Gender card. While Obama is staying on the the high ground.

Too bad HRC just can't run on her own merits and, real experience, and her voting record.

Ask the right questions

I'm not sure Hillary compared herself to LBJ, but if she did it is ridiculous for Hillary becase I believe in 1964 Hillary worked on the "Goldwater for President" campaign.

Dems pull together

Listen I'm supporting Obama, but Democrats must pull together to win this election. Hillary supporters you must convince your candidates to start taking the high ground, like Obama, as she is being very divisive. I know she is being caught in snares by the pundits but her campaign handlers are putting her in these situations.

This all reminds me of the last episode of Mad Men... The big agency crafting on the Nixon messages and campaign tactics, full of themselves, then they wake up to find out they have lost the election to Kennedy.

Obama volunteers

I know Obama volunteers are asked to be positive and talk about about Obama'strength's and not criticize other candidates. GOTV has these goals. Make sure people are registered to vote, and know the election date, Get the Democrats out to vote, get the undecided to vote for your candidate, don't be negative about the other candidate, in fact don't mention their name.

Volunteer coordinator repsponsibilty

In every campaign you have loose cannons. Precinct captains are volunteering, so it is good idea for the person in charge of training volunteers to make sure that the precinct captains are using official cmaong materials and the right talking points.
