Electoral college worked for years
[Read the article: Let's abolish the Electoral College]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Just becasue Al Gore lost the electin everyone wants to get rid of the elecrotal college. Without the electoal college we mihgt have ahd richzrd Nixon, insteadof Jhn f. Kennedy. People elect their state legislators, therefore when state legislator vote in the electoral colege they represent the people. The other issue mentioned and done aawy with were dicrimintory aganist certain grups of people. The electoral college is not. Sometimes I think government need protecit us from the ignorance of the people.
The problem is not the elctoral college. The problem is the vast number of people between the ages of 35-55 who do not vote.
.... the "apathectic generation".

CA Republicans
[Read the article: Let's abolish the Electoral College]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]In CA the republicans tried to get an intiniative on the ballot to change how the electoral college votes were decided in CA Their plan would have put the repubicans at an advantage. Lucky for us they failed to get it on the ballot. Lefties should not be so eager to get rid fo the Electoral college. I bet none of you even understood it existed until the 2000 election.
Fankly the far left is starting to sound & act like the far right.... Absolutes or nothing! Ah for moderation. Moderation is why we have the electoral college.

Ah Golda
[Read the article: Conversations: Valerie Harper]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I guess women my age admired her becsue she was a strong female leader at a time when we were just trying to get on the corp ladder. Many may notice I do not type very well. In 1976 I had a large poster hanging on the wall of my cubical. The poster had black and white portrait of Golda Meir. Under her profile it read: "But Can She Type".

Smug as ever
[Read the article: A nation of Rich Lowrys]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Rich Lowry' is as smug as his predicessor. Once in a while he replaces David Brooks on PBS, NEWS HOUR friday commentary. I am always amazed at how he can sound very reasonable whenn fact he is presenting very unreasonable ideas. He lacks the humor of his predicessor, but at least there is no repetilain tounge sliding in and out of his mouth piece.
I had no idea Victor Hanson was connected to the National Reivew. I should have guessed since he is a 'fellow' at the Hover Institute, the war mongering experts on our back step. Hansen's column appears now and then in the SF Chronicle. We are amazed that Hanson, a supposidly well educated person, writes so badly. It's not jsut that I disagree with everythiing he says. He appears to have never learned how to write a good paragraph with a connecetd conclusion.

Wrong reasons
[Read the article: Al who? Clinton announces another endorsement]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I found Lewis' answers to the qusitons all the wrong reasons for endorsing Clinton... (Bill can sign everyword to a song?)
His endoresment sounds like an endoresment for Bill not Hillary. His reason sounds exaclty like why 2 of our frends are voting for Hillary..They will get Bill. This reasoning is so sexist. I anyone voting for her? Or is everyine just voting to get Bill back?
Frankly I doubt his endoresment is a blow at all.
Most of the Democrats I know, over 60, "Kennedy kids",
are voting for Obama.

Hillary not more experienced
[Read the article: Al who? Clinton announces another endorsement]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I just don't get those comments tht Hillary has the 'world" expererince to lead us. Hillary has no more exerince than Obama. She is only in her second term in the Senate. She held no public office before then and her experience living with Bill does NOT count, nor does Bill count. Granted I loved bill Clinton, and thought he ws a great prsident, but Hillary is NOT bill. I will support her if she gets the nomnation because she will be a much better leader than any R running now.
Yes, Obmama has only been in the U.S. Senate for one term, but he was a IL state Senate for 8 years and envolved in local politics before that. He has good foreign policy plans and excellent foreign policy advisors. He can bring the nation together as he is not divisive.
To assume all black voters are going to vote for Obmama because he is black or not becsue he is not balck enough, or that all women voters for HIllary is both racist and sexist.
This white woman is voting for Obama. I'm voting for him because I htink he is the best person to lead us, he ahs ideas for REALchnge, and he has the best chance of winning.
