I too am now sorry tht Frances did not speak out sooner, but thank you for speaking out now. I am pro-choice, and I grew up in the Catholic Faith, but have left the church as it is not moving forward. Instead a bunch of partriarchs continue policies that most Catholics ignore.
I agree. The context of the current debate on abortion debate has changed significantly in the last 10 years. The antis have successfully crafted a less the truthful campaign that has taken the abortion debate out context of defending the right to choose abortion, a defense of religious liberty and women's moral autonomy.
Pro-life politicians running for the presidency are now waving the "faith flag", and dare to suggest that anyone who believes in abortion rights or that anyone not of religious faith is immoral.
From my experience in the Church I can say without a doubt that the current anti abortion rhetoric and Supreme Court Decision is wrapped in Catholic Dogma. The opposition to legal abortion is not based on any medical facts or any legal doctrine, it is based on the religious belief that "human life begins at conception". Thus making the opposition to abortion rights, a violation of the "separation of church and state". This dogma, is also the reason that the pro-life movement works so hard against comprehensive sex education and contraception. The Pro-life movement began in the Catholic church and is still heavily funded by the Catholic bishops.
You are WRONG on both accounts of Doe, and ROE v. wade. You must be reading some pro-life misinformaton.
The argument that Norma Mccorvey(roe)was raped was never used in by Sara Weddington in her arugments before the Suprme Court in Roe v. Wade. In fact Norma Mccorvy never had an abortion either.
Read the legal argument.
There really was nothing very astnding n this video clip. teh girl was conusled. She was told they wudl hve to call tehpolice in nay case. The video was really not reveling much of naything, and teh musci was doppy.
Planned Parenthood does more to prevent abortion tahtn any por-life organiztion every dreamed of. Only aobut 10% ofPP service nationwide are performing aboirtions. The rest is family planning, prenatal care, and parenting classes.
The anits are desperados!
The majority of people in this country misunderstand what Roe really allows. Under Roe abortion is legal under a trimester system.
In the first trimester (1-12 weeks), the woman can legally have an abortion for any reason. The women's rights are superior to the rights of
the fetus.
In the second Trimester (13-23 weeks) States can regulate abortions as long as it does not put undue burden on the woman.
In the third trimester the rights of the fetus are superior the rights of the woman, unless the fetus is a life or health risk to the woman.
The Supreme Court ruling on the so-called Partial Birth Abortion disregards the health of the woman. Thus placing an undue burden on the woman.
The anti keep saying that the majority in US want limits on Abortion. There were already limits under ROE. No new rules were necessary.
Those who equate abortion to murder or infanticide are nuts. You cannot have Murder or infanticide un until you have a live birth or infant.Until it pops out of the womb it is a fetus and it is abortion not murder.
Not even the Catholic church called abortion murder until the past few years. In fact before 1900 abortion was only considered a mortal sin until afer quickening. Before 1900 the Catholic used Aristotle’s Theory of Potentiality. Pretty similar to ROE
Tony's son finally goes beizerk and kills allhis frinds and the entire family.
The media blasts it for days on TV asking why and who do we blame.
How did Falwell and his compatriots become so influential? Well for one thing Cable TV gave them a wider audience and the Republican party sold their souls to the devil so they could win elections. We must however remember that not all evangelicals are part of the religious right and not all members of the religious right are evangelicals.
Jerry Falwell kept the crazy side of the religious right in the fore front, helping to discredit them. However Jerry Falwell was not alone in his crusade to change the our Democracy into a theocracy. So far they have not succeeded, but they have made big in roads with the Bush presidency and the recent Republican congress. Falwell and Robertson have both produced many students in both Liberty University and Robinson's Regency U to carry on their work. They are no in the media, law, and politics. We still have James Dobson, who owns many radio stations and has a multi million dollar publishing company that make millions off our tax dollars through "faith based" programs. Then there is Tim Lehay who helped Jerry start the (in) Moral Majority. In the early 1990s Tim Lehay portrayed his left behind series on CBN as truth, Then he turned them into best selling fiction series, making millions which he has pumped back into the religious right political activities.
I have 2 questions:(1) When will the republican party tell these religious right to take a hike. The GOP can win without them. (2) When will American's rise up and protest their influence in government policies. Millions protested in Turkey, in response to possible Islamic influence in their secular government. Where is the will here?
Ron Paul does not appear to have the usual Libertarian credentials. Libertarins usually claim to be liberal on social issues and conservtive on fiscal issues.
Basiclly they are former Repblicans, more selfish than the usual
republican.
I see no leaderhsip potenital in any of these white cronies from the "old boys club"
