real problem
[Read the article: New home sales: The downward spiral continues]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The housing crisis occurred becasue, buyers sought out loan agencies who would loan them money for a hosue they could not afford. When we bought our first house we had to put 20% cash down and have an income that would cover a required percenatge. That meant you did not buy a house until you could afford it, and you had to SAVE up the down payment or be lucky enough to have parents who wold loan you the money. Over the years we bought up. Too much emphasis home ownersip and pressure is put on young people or middle income fmilies to buy hosues before they are ready or capable to make the payments.
House have been devalued in all areas. It is mostly in areas where the values were over inflated to beign with. Where I live houses still selling wihtin 30 days, and the prices have always been stable and rising. We had a big boom in our neighborhood between 1998-2002. Houses in my neigborhood sold within 1-2 weeks as usually being bid $200-300,000 over the million to 1.3 million asking prices. These are houses on 80 x 100 ft lots. Then the houses were remodeled or torn down and a new one built. The people selling them were older people who got a nice retirement, and young couple who got a ncie BIG mortage, but they could afford it. In the last 6 months houses in our neighborhood are still selling but it takes 30-60 days instead of of 1-2 weeks, and there is no over bidding, but negotiating the price down. However the asking price has gone up.

Disagree
[Read the article: David Brooks and the deceitful tactics of the Beltway pundit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I disagree with some of what the author says about David Brooks. We all know he is a conservative columnist, but he is not right wing fanatic. Some times I agree with him and some times not. I and find his analysis very reasonable. As far as Daily Kos I think they are full of hot air. I was curious so watched them on CSPAN at their convention. I was not impressed. I found them to be full of hot air with no realistic solutions. Then I went to thier web site and it seems to be just self absorbed chatting. Only ACTION wil change what is going on in this country. You can chat all you want and it will not help. I do disagree Clinton has the Demcratic nomination sewed up but she just has the press coverge sewed up.

ACLU comment
[Read the article: David Brooks and the deceitful tactics of the Beltway pundit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]A grim sign is the way the ACLU, normally an ally of progressive Democrats,"
The ACLU is NOT an ally of the proressive Democrat. It is an ally of civil liberties for all citizens, andyou onyhave to look at teh cses they have fought to uderstand this. It may appear they favor Democrats becasue Democrats are more interested in protecting our civil liberties.

Obama strategic
[Read the article: Douglas Schoen and Hillary's slimy pollsters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I would have to agree that these polls are being manipulated. My own personal pool doento sheo HIllary in the lead among Dems.
Ido not agree with those who say Obama is sitting back taking in money but not pushing back. I think Obama is being very strategic. He is not buildinghsi support therough teh news, he is building a well organized grassroots organization. His smaller donations $25-250 are from a a lerger pool of voters. Many who are giving $2,300-4,600 donatons are giving to both Hillary and Obama. Every time Obma has a big ticket event in an area, he also has a low dollar vent which bring is thousands of people each paying $25-250 each. These event are real rallies. The majority of voters, are not political junkies like us, so they won't even pay attention until very late in the race.

Health care plans
[Read the article: What you missed while watching the new "Bionic Woman"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]More tahn 2 months ago all the Democrats had their plans up on her site and on teh Democtas site. I did cmmparisons. Dodd is the ony candidate with a total Universal plan. Why did Hillary get all the press when it was being discussed and already on thier web sites 2 months earlier? Don't kid yoursleves. No on is going to be able to pull us completely out of this mess in Iraq. The bigger question is How will they handle diplomacy making sure we don't expand this craziness to Iran. Right now Bush neocons and the republican candidates are making the same unfounded claims about Iran and nuclear weapons that they did about Iraq.
