  • Repbulican Lite

[Read the article: Dianne Feinstein, symbol of the worthless Beltway Democrat]

Sen Feinstein represents me. My husband and and I call her republican lite. I just wrote her to complain abut her vote on theMoveOn condemnation. I write her often. You have to understand why Diane keeps getting elected, in a blue state. In California, the rabid right wing too over the over the republican party in tehr ealry 90s. The Seante seats in CA have been safe for our 2 Democrats senators (Feinstein & Boxer) for years as the republicans have not been able to come up with any moderate republicans to run for the Senate. Many moderate repulbican voters like and vote for Dianne Feinstein. However most Republicans won't vote for Barbara Boxer. In 2010 it is rumored that Swartzenager is going to run agansit Boxer, for her Seante seat. The last time the Repbulicans even had a chance at Seante seat in CA, the rabid right repubilcans beat out moderate repubican Tom Campbell in the primaries, thus securing Barbara Boxers election. Since Arnold got practically booed out of the R state convention for saying the party needed modearation, his chances in 2010 pirmary may be slim, but if he gets the R vote 2010 primaries he coudl possibly beat Boxer as many Democrats helped put Swartzenaer in office.

When Feinstein leaves the qeusiton is will SF Mayor Gavin Newsom bypass running for state office sand run for the Senate, as Dianne did. Gavin is also ot a liberal as many beleive. Also ny the coastal citeis are Blue in CA, we have many very conservative pockets and right now both our senators come from SF.

I do question wht the authors comments about Fenstein' 3 divorces and woner what it has to do with anything. I beleive the atuthor errored as Diane's husband died, she did not divorce him, and She has been married to her her current husband for many years.

[Read the article: White House: Obama too "intellectually lazy" to work here]

Unbelievable. Bush has surruounded himself wiht medeocrity, so how would they know. You ony have to look back in history to recognize this is a racist remark used on blacks in the past.

Goes to show you haw frightened republicans really are that Obama may do well. Obama is jsut to intelligent and thougtful for Bushies.

  • Don't understand CA

[Read the article: Dianne Feinstein, symbol of the worthless Beltway Democrat]

Just remembert Dianne was one of the first to endorse Hillary Clinton. Barbara Boxer's daughter is marreid to a Clinton ansds Boxer has not endorsed Hillary. Hilary will be much like Dianne.

Some how many in the publice beleive all the hype they read in the news about how "Liberl' California is. Just not true. Not even San Francisco is as liberal as protrayed in the media. I suspect many even many of the gays in SF are republicans. The wealthy that live in Dianne's' neighborhood in SF were mostly country club republicans. They vote for Dinne as there have ony been rabid right republicans running for the Senate in CA since early 90s. Not even Berkeley is a liberal as it used to be. In Silicon valley, 35 miles south of SF where I live, the Democrats are not that liberal. Much of the BIG venture capitral money in the valley goes to Republicans. All of CA is not blue. It only some the met areas and even then there are large pockets of RED. CA is a large state. Santa Barbara, Orange county, Cental Valley, Northern Rural CA, Sacramento Vally are RED.

While Dianne discusses immigration, seh knows is much hypoicracy around that issue here in CA. Most Californias do not complain about Mexican immigrants illegal or otherwise as we could not survive without them... Nannies, house cleanrers, restuarant workers, garndeners, constuctinn workers, and most important our fresh vegtables, fruits, and the grapes for our wines all come to us from the labor of of mexican immigrants.

  • War film good

[Read the article: You must remember this]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

In the beginning I was reluctant to watch another film that gloified the U.S particpation in World War 2. Most of the time World War 2 has been presented to us as if the U.S. saved the world from Hitler, when we really one part of a larger allied force. One thing Burns has not covered is the isolatioists republiican in congrees who refuesed to go to war and help England until we were attcked in 1942. The war had been raging in Eurooe since 1938-39. The Russians and Britist held back Germany for years before we got involved.

However the Burns film does not cover the usual history and gives plenty of creidit to the allies. It is not so U.S centric. It puts you right in the action with some pretty violent scenes. It depicts the reality of death, failures, and victories of war. It is certnaily not a pro-war film and there is much in the film about the military failures of the U.S. and the victoreis of not just the U.S but of the allies. What is differnt is Burns uses film archives from U.S as well as allied archives. It adds a totally different perspective to the war. It presents a lot more information about allies than any thing else I have seen on World War 2.

I especially like the way Burns has fouced on 4 towns & cities, not the usual places. The film shows much of what was going on in the U.S plus on every front from a humanistic approach showing how both indiviuals at home and on the front were affected by ths war. This iflm is not a history film but will be a good addition to traditional history classes.

I learned a few new things last night. For instance I did not know that Musollini was deposed as the leader of Italy during the war and the Germans protected Musolini as pupit government in the north attempt to keep Itay on thier side. I also discovered last night, by watching this program that the booklet with numbered coupons I found in my parents stuff upon their death, were war ration coupons. Thus another family memorabilia mystery solved.
