Unrepentant Bastard

Excellent choice of screen name fo ryou.

What is the Demcratic base?

I say it is those of us long term Democrts who have stuck with the Democratic party through thick and thin and voted in every election local, state an national.

I've seen a lot of blog on Salon especially on the far left or independents who bounce around each election, complaining because their one narrow issue has been solved over night.

Many republicans voted for Obama because he promised compromises and civil discourse in DC. Unfortunately the right wing republicans in Congress don't want to be civil.

Independents and Libertarians, who are responsible for electing the leadership of the last 8 years, bounce between parties or support a lame independent candidates, thus splitting the vote, when they don't get their selfish needs satisfied instantaneously.

Progressive ideas issues take time and compromise.

Why should it be a referndumon Obama

It's amazing, Never in the history of a presidency has there been weekly polls on popularity, or holding a president responsible for every election. Each week there is an article on his popularity or something he has failed to 'change' in his first 10nmonths in office.

Some want jobs created instantaneously and the economy to recover over night. Yet decades of previous economic policies caused our current eco9nimic decline. There has been a steady job loss adn down sizing since 2007. Yet Obama is supposed to solve all in 10 months.

There has been discussion of health care reform since Richard Nixon first ran for president, and Obama and the Democrats are for the first time about to deliver on it,yet everyone is still complaining.

The far left complains GITMO is not yet closed, even though progress is being made. HOw can you quickly shut down a facility that has been in the making for 8 years.

Obama promised to bring home troops from Iraq and that is in progress and on schedule, yet there are still complaints. He never promised to bring home the troops from Afghanistan, instead he promised to put more effort there.

Practically over night Obama changed the world view of us, and imporved our foreign relations.

What is cause this? Why do people expect Obama to change in 10 months that was decades, and the last 8 years in the making? Is it the instantaneous gratification received from the speed of information, cell phones, 24 hour info entertainment instead, and the blog spear instead of good new reporting?

Relevant change takes time. We used to judge our president's progress in 2-4 years, not 10 months.

Leeandra Nolting

Wrong. It was age 14 at the time.

I'm not saying Polanski was not guilty of taking advantage of her. Her mother however put her in this situation.

However it is time for everyone to stay out of other people's business.

none of your business leave her alone.

It's possible the 'so called victem' who not a young girl but a young woman knows the truth. Why can't all you just leave her alone. Does she have to become the star of everyone's victem mentality, reality show?

This generation of telling all on TV is obnoxious. Some people like their privavcy.

I suggest you read the papers from that time period. Yes, Polanski admitted having sex with her, not knowing she was 6 months shy of age of consent. I'm not sure he admitted rape. If she consented it's a pretty gray area. Considering the circumstances this woman may now understand she may have been more a victim of her mother's ambitions, and just maybe she understands what some of you just don't get.

love it

The far right is doing in the GOP. It's not so grand anymore.

Thank God

I'm glad he dropped out. He should pursue a state of national office,or go back to running his business. He has done a pretty good job running SF, but could not get the votes for Gov.

Frankly Jerry Brown did a good job when he was GOV before. Everyone called him the 'moon' GOv. He was responsible for the wind energy in CA. He was ahead of his time, now his alternative energy ideas are all the rage.

Except for moderate Tom Campbell the republican candidates are anti-choice, so they won't get my vote. If we get one of those ANTI tax republicans CA will be doomed.

Isere narrow minded veiw

After many years of supporting NARAL, I zipped my wallet shut. Your leadership states that NARAL stands with "with people who stand with us." The problem here is that the Republican Party does NOT stand with us. Its very platform is anti-choice.

-- Isere

______

YOU view is very narrow. Republican they will continue to be anti choice, if you do not support the pro-choice candidates in their party. Especially when the candidates is much stronger on choice than the Democrats.

Reproductive Choice is NOT a partisan issue.

Saturday, October 31, 2009 10:12 AM

NARAL is non partisan

NARAL is a non-partisan political arm of the pr-choice movement.

There is nothing unusual about NARAL endorsing a republican or independent that is 100% pro-choice. NARAL has no connection to any one political party, make their endorsement decisions based on a candidate's position on different issues in regard to reproductive choice.

In fact before the early 90s there were more, or just as many,Pro-choice republicans than Democrats in office.

It was he take over of the republican party by the RADICAL new types of Christians, using abortion as a wedge issue, that turned the party anti choice. Many of NARAL's biggest donors were republican women, many of those republican women have left the party to become Independents or Democrats.

NARAL has 3 arms. 501C3 for education, 501C4 for education, 501C4 for poltical actions, and a PAC, which endorses candidates.
