Hyprocracy rules
[Read the article: Larry Craig's bathroom behavior and the right wing -- then and now]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"But if those on the left actually knew more practicing Christians, they would know that the stuff about condemning the sin but loving the sinner isn't mere lip service."
Many lefties are practcing Christains, just not the kind of Christiany the right wing politicals are trying to hoist on us.
This story is the ultimae example of the HYPOCRACY of the "family values" republicans. He who cast the first stone,....

Yikes
[Read the article: Casual hookups cause "gray rape"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Remember this old excuse which puts the bame on women:
"It is easier for a woman to run with her skirt up thann a man with his pants down."Sounds like the same old excuses for rape are being repackaged.
Men need to understand that No means No. Women need to understand that if you get yoursleves in these type of situtations, it is harder to make men understand that No really means No.

Too negative
[Read the article: John Edwards turns on his fellow Democrats]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Edwards have moved down from the top of my list, as I do not like his blame game and negativity, especially aganist people in his own party. Obama presents a very positive, thoughtfull messages with good solutions, but not unrealistice promises.

Let's educate not teach to the test
[Read the article: Teachers: Be subversive]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Not al bright students do well on tests and vice versa. We are not educating our children, we are teaching them to take tests. Has anyone ever investigated who is making all the money off of this testing? Are the testing compnies lobbying for more testing?
I remember my 2 worst teachers one in 3rd grade, one 10th grade, both of these teachers liked us to memorize and take tests. Anyone remember phonex(sp). Oh god, my third grade teacher beat this into us so we would do well on the Phonex(sp test. My 10 grade Latin 2 teacher, a num, was nuts. She drilled us daily with latin tests, so we would excell in the Latin tests. None of us progressed in Latin and I opted out of taking of Latin 3 because of her.
Instead of punishisg school who do badly, we need to figure out what the communities need in order for their kids to succeed. We also need to admit that although all children need an equal education, some children will be left behind. In my school district, all the grade & middle schools in the lower income areas rated below averageo on the CA Star test, and all the schools in the higher income areas had almost perfect scores. The 2 highs schools serving the district rated just barely above the middle because the middle schools from both areas feed into these highs schools. By the time students are in middle school many wealthy parents opt out of the public school system and spend 15,000- 20,000 a year to send ther kids to private schools.
It stands to reason that parents can afford to live in wealthier areas because they have the smarts or the opportunites to do better in life, and thuse so do their children. owever,I was amazed when I went to a jazz concert at the high school to see al the kids playing in the Jazz band were upper middle class and white, when they reflect the lowest percentage of students in the school. Why? These kids can afford private lessons when they are young and their middle schools have music programs, while the poorer area in the district do not have music programs. If we want kids in innner cites and poorer areas to do better, we need to give them the same opportunities. This means public funding for those things upper middle class parents can afford for their kids. Good pre- school, music, art, reading. Instead of funding tests, and punishing schools, we should provide "long term" funding for pre-school classes for both students and parents in pooer areas.

I disagreea bout parents involvement
[Read the article: Teachers: Be subversive]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]While I think it is important for parents to involved in thier schools and monitor ther childrens learning, I think they should stay out of teaching once thier children start school. It is the parents job to prepare thier children to go to school, behve inn school, ndmake sure they are dong tehr homework. It is the teachers job to educate. We need to allow teachers and school to displine kids and throw those who are disruptive out of class or put them in a dention class.
Home schooling is not good for children. Children need to learn how to socialize and learn how to deal with people who are differnt from themselves. Kidergarten is the begining of the separation process from parents. I think people who home school thier children are very insecure parents. The worse home schooling comes from the Chrsitiann Right who use materials designed by insitutions like "Focus on The Family". These kids are being brain washed with revionsitt history, dumbed down sceince like Intellgient Design. they ar enot learnign to THINK The kids will be in total shock when they leave the nest. Hoepfully they will rebel.
