Once againg sexist reporting
[Read the article: Sleepless in the Senate]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"This is not a stunt," snapped Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La. "This is not Hollywood."
So Sen Hagel spoke "passoinately" but Sen. Mary Landrieu "snapped"? Do reporters every use the term "smapped" when speaking of male comments. I heard Senator Landrieeu speaking last night from the senate floor on CPAN. She gave a very strong, articulate and passionate speech on the repsonsbilities of the Seante. She was not snapping. The comment sbout Sen Landrieu is sexist.
The Democrats did a good job and should be complmented. They just can't get the majoirty they need to orver ride a veto. This gives them the ammuniton against those who won't pull out. How many of those who voted agnaist this are not running for reelction in 2008? Liberman is not. The repbulcans who voted for a pull out are all running for reelection and know they are in trouble. Unfortunately these are the only sane republicans left in the Senate.
The real GOP war strategy is to prolong the stay in Iraq so they can leave the mess to teh Democrats when they win in 2008 and them balme them for the failed war.

Are you all from another plat
[Read the article: Sleepless in the Senate]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]May some of you are so used to the Republicans who have controled Congress fo the past 8 year having no debates and cramming legislation through without even committee meeting However Debate has been the conerstone of Senate for decades. This is government in action. As Senator Landieu said "this was no stunt". The only people turning it into Hollwood stunt is the "higly edited" media hype.
This war is a serious issue, costing us billions of dollars, making more enimies for the U.S around in the world, and accompishing nothing. Bush is stubborn and defiant showing little repect for the other branches of government. He rarely consults with Senate or House leaders to craft compromises. Instead the presient acts lke a spoiled brat who just became KING.
The Republicans under Bush are running this country into the ground.

Get a Grip
[Read the article: I have the hots for my stepson]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]GEt a Grip. Many adults have have attractions to teens and vice versa. The big diference between a pervert and "normal is you just don't act on those feelings. The last thing you should do is tell your stepson of your feelings. He probably does not feel the same why you do and it would be a prescription for disater. He's proabbly just matured and seeks your freindship. If he acts on it. Then it is your job as an adult and parent to discourage it. How would you feel if your daughter had stepfather who was atracked to her when she was 17, and acted on it.
I feel for those who have to deal with flirting teens.
However teens are often not mature enough to understand the diference between Sex love and the consequences. It is the adults.
If you have time to pine over your stepson surely you have time for sex with your husband. If it's a big porblem, then get marraige counsling or find and adult to have an affair with.

Separation of church and state.
[Read the article: Is the GOP political platform contrary to Catholic teaching?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]No candiDate, politicIan or government employee should be following the edits of any reilgion n governing this nation. Our fouding fathers designed this nation to be a secualr democracy. Why aren't the cndidates we taking about separtion of church and state instead, "faith"
I am sick to death of both the Republicans and Democrats talking about thier faith. It doens't amatter.

No, No , No is partly wrong.
[Read the article: Dem hopefuls pull few punches on choice]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]" It's legal. People can get one if they want one. Now let's move on to actual solutions."
No totally true. Many states have passed retrictive laws making it more difficult to get and abortion. The federal government does NOT fund abortions, a few states do. So if a poor woman lives in a state with no funding for abortions, and she has no money to travel to a state that does, that means she has lost her right to have an abortion. Some states now require unnecessary sonograms and this also raises the cost. The latest anti tactic is passing more restricitve building reqiremnts for clinics, in an effort to close clinics. These are all tactics to make aborton less accessable. After the last Surpreme Court ruling, banning so-called partial birth abortion, women who experince sever health consequences late in pregnancies have no choice but to risk thier reproductive health and maybe even death. Even though the ban makes exceptiosn for death, a health situation can easily turn into a "life threatening situation" quickly. Women serving in the U.S. military can not get abortions paid for through their government health insurance. Many private health insurances won't pay for prevention (contraception).
So you see middle & upper class women have no worries unless they experince a late term pregnanciy crisis, but poor women don't have as many choices.
Unfortunately we must be vigil, as the goal of the Right to Life of America is to ban abortion incrementally. They also try to reduce access to birth control. If we don't elect a president who respects women's reproductive rights we will get a new Supreme Court justice who will change the balance of the court and overturn Roe v Wade completely. It will happen! Right now there are a few older liberal judges hanging on. If they do not make it through the Bush adminstration you can kiss your reproductive rights goodbye. I can tell you from experince, you do not want to go back to pre-Roe. However if young women don't get thier butts and vote this issue maybe, just maybe you deserve to loose the right to choose. Maybe you need to fight for it again.
