Joan this was a great interview. Your interviewing skills are excellent.
On Mad Men. I love the show because it demonstrates how women were treated back then. My youngest daughter watches the show, and finally we are having a conversation about where I'm coming from in terms of woman's rights. Next season I'm waiting to where Betty's role goes. Will Betty just jump to another submissive relationship, or will Betty become a feminist? She got more assertive this year and changed her situation.
I lived it all. Having to drop out of college, and rushed to the alter because the 'good little Catholic girl" got pregnant. Getting fired from a job in 1965 because I was pregnant. A Catholic doctor refusing to give his Catholic patient (me) birth control in 1967, because he promised the Bishop he would not give his Catholic patients contraception, even though he did give it to his non-Catholic patients... My first rebellion getting a new doctor and taking contraception. My second rebellion getting a separated from my husband, then getting denied a job because I was only separated, not divorced and might return to my husband. 2 weeks later I filed for divorce with 2 young children to care for. 1970 Started going back to night school at private college to prepare for full time return to college. My birth control, fails and I got pregnant by an ass who I had only had sex with 2 times. Had an illegal abortion arranged by the Physicans and Religious alliance, provided by whom I'm sure was the mafia in Chicago.... 1971 Return to college full time as my oldest daughter starts kindergarten. worked 30 hr week, took 15-18 hours per semester maintained had a 3.6 average, and graduated!!
1974: Moved to CA: Had a hard time finding a decent place to live because single mothers were treated in the same fashion as black families housing. Finally got a job in a large corp, worked my way out of the bad housing, and worked my way up to management, and was sexual harassed the entire time. 1975 Denied a major credit card because I was female. 1978 quit the corporation started my own business, and helped form a networking organization to advance women in advertising and marketing (all networking organizations were lead my men). 1988, SC Webster decision.. the vision of 'Jimmy' code name for the driver who picked me up at a Chicago hotel to drive me to may illegal abortion emegrges form the back of my memoery.. I become a pro-choice activist !
Been there experienced it all. Why I am a pro-choice feminist.
I'm putting the book on my Christmas list.
Well there was no health care reform to vote for in 1998 so prey tell me what was was Evan Bayh corrupt motive for getting his wife on the BOD of Anthem?
I leaving the physical protests to the young.
I'm waiting to hear the 'exit strategy If there is one.
reheard certainly fits description of 'troll'.
I suggest you get out from behind your keyboards an on to the streets to protest the war, like we did in the 60s & 70s.
I'm waiting to see what Obama says.
I just do not want to hear we cannot do health care, if we can pay for war.
Well I should not have gotten drawn into rrheard's irrational attacks.
I'm more worried about the fact Bayyhh is on the Armed services Committee that his wife's BOD activities.
By influencde I meas these boards use the names of their BOD . It doesn't mean they really have any any influence.
Your right Bayh was not AG he was secretary of state.
Bayh's wife’s professional career has having sometimes been thwarted by his political activities. For instance, Susan Bayh had to change her practice area of corporate and security law when he became Indiana’s secretary of state and oversaw the state’s private securities industry. His wife then switched her specialty to utility law, which she had to give up when Bayh became governor.
I don't believe she started on the BOD of Wellpoint in 1998. I think it was after his second term. I guess it is time to thwart her career again.
Listen, I'm no fan of Evan Bahy. But his wife's BOD activities have nothing to do with his inconsistency in his remarks on the war and the deficit... Which was my original point.
Evan Bayh is NOT on the Senate health care committee either as suggested by some.
My point was she did not get her BOD positions because of her husband. She was involved in health care industry even before he ran for the Senate. When there have 2 career families it's tough. She's already switched her law focus twice in her career for Evan to avoid conflicts.
You jealous of Mrs Bahy? I love the way you bash Mrs. Bayh's career experience and at the same time adore Glenn's and his limited legal and journalistic experience.
I understand you are also career challenged.
Moore has little influence.
The problem is not so much in the escalation as our promised counterbalance--withdrawing from Iraq--has yet to be scheduled.
L.boogie
WRONG.
It is scheduled to begin after the Iraq elections in Jan. Most of the troops in Iraq have been pulled back to their bases already.
Obama never promised to pull out of Afghanistan.
Please answer my questions. Do you understand what it was she did for those firms and Eli Lilly before she became a "professional board member"?
She worked as an Attorney for 10 years for Eli Lilly. That was before her husband was a Senagtor Before ehalhrt care reform.
Yes show would get asked. That is how people get on BOD.. their influence and knowledge of the industry.
