I like that. American rites are rights.
That's great that Sharpe is playing, but what station? I see nothing in my local listings.
Ah yes, the Greens and Ralph Nader as a solution. They helped to defeat the only credible environmentalist candidate in the history of the Republic. And they are still proud of that.
What version of "there is no difference between the Republicans and Democrats" will justify a candidacy that helps put McCain in the presidency in 08?
If Greens want to do something effective then they should be helping to draft Al Gore for the Democratic nomination.
Please don't call me "moonbat." It hurts my feelings (sniffle) and makes you look stupid. Both are bad results. Of course, spelling canard with two n's also makes you look stupid.
I lived in Tennesee, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and my parents were from Georgia. Kyra Sedgewick's accent works just fine.
I am not surprised that some of the southerners on this thread object -- I live in Fargo now and absolutely NOBODY around here thinks that Frances McDormand of the movie, Fargo, sounds like a Minnesotan. She sounds like every Minnesotan I ever heard.
I thought the bad tv was good this summer. I watched every episode of The 4400, The Closer, and Saved.
I like reading Heather Havrilesky, but she just doesn't know good, bad tv.
Isn't Al Gore still polling in second place with most pundits saying he won't run? Doesn't he have a book coming out in May? Wouldn't he make a fine president? Is there a good reason that so few mention him in speculative discussions of the anti-Hillary? Is there a Democrat in America who believes that Hillary can get 40% of the vote?
Elephantman is going to put you on double secret probation!
Gore was early in his opposition to the Iraq War and occupation. I believe if/when he declares he will tie or pass all other prospective Democrats (including Clinton).
We need to run a titan in the party. Gore has proven once that he can win, and Kerry has not disproven it by any stretch.
This was just a meditation on how tough it is to reconcile world view with the demands of raising children. I had fun reading it.
But, where does that strange, Parson Jim narrative about public schools beating masculinity out of boys come from?
Happy Holidays everybody.
Gore is a titan among Democratic champions. The unfortunate myth he will have to overcome is that he should have won going away in 2000 (all of history, Clinton, Bush's 20 point lead in the polls, and Nader on his left flank notwithstanding). But I think most will remember that he has already proven his extraordinary effectiveness as a campaigner.
Right now and for the last six years he has been the single most qualified man in America for the job. Let's hope he gets into this race.
It sure takes a bitter old cretin to get angry with Garrison Keillor.
Most of us in Fargo have an icy hatred for the Hall of Fame. It seems that an entire generation of sports writers is determined to ignore the extraordinary career of the man whose record was broken by Mark McGwire by leaving him out of the HOF.
And it would take a lot to persuade us that Roger Maris was enhanced by drugs.
Thanks for the replies, Smileyy and Khan. It is clear that the Hall rewards individual excellence and pretty clear that it does not reward the exceptional team player (Maris was that player).
But it really isn't too fine a point that he was MVP two years in a row and for Chrissakes he broke Ruth's record.
It isn't some judicious set of standards that gets them in or keeps them out, after all. That Maris is not in there really makes us question the credibility and purpose of the whole place.
Well, Elephantman, I believe Roosevelt was a bombadier AND flew a Lightning during WWII. But your desire to provide a threadbare caricature of his service is understood.
Damn!
Maher says "we all love Gore. . ." the guy he always called 'Bore' as in 'Bore and Gush' back in 2000.
He is neither well-intentioned nor well-informed. He says in this interview that Gore did not campaign on the environment in 2000 (big sin, the environment didn't even poll measurably for voters in 2000). Just look at Gore's acceptance speech. The economy first -- understandable -- some acknowledgments, and then right into his own environmental record.
That's just my quibble. I think his biggest sin is that he is not funny enough.
I am going to say 'unspeakable pancakes' at every opportunity. Your new fan,
Go to AlGore.org
and rearranged a couple of countries your post would be equally true.
just aren't that funny
We'll see if it gets worse, but at least in New Mexico it appears that the US Attorney was fired for not using the office to persecute the political opposition.
It isn't the firing, it's the lying under oath. sound familiar?
during the Clinton administration. What is scandalous about these firings is that the Republican US attorneys themselves have identified the political motivations behind the purge.
There is no defending the administration on this one.
As a liberal democrat I want to extend an offer of help to you in your quest to have the Republican Party nominate Brownback.
for the legal decisions that made Bush the president. The questions in front of us should be the qualifications of our candidates and the winnability of the election.
Oh, Gore, Obama, 08!
we don't know yet if the Duke players are guilty.
But, seriously, this whole subject MUST be about Duke Lacrosse players or some other disadvantaged group neglected by Salon.
