Traditional Media's Mediocracy
[Read the article: The harmony between the Right and the media]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Glenn,
Where politicians are concerned, we can vote them out of office ... but what are we to do with the likes of O'Reilly, Hannity, Gibson, Stephanopolous, Scarborough, Matthews, etc., etc.? A while back, I made the decision to turn off any political pundit who said something inane, mendacious, or who simply repeated Drudge-like talking points. I'm sure you'll be surprised to know that I rarely can get through the first ten minutes of most cable "news" shows and the networks are even worse! I find that I'm much less angry and depressed than I used to be and I enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that the simply act of turning off the talking heads is, ultimately, the only thing that will impact what I see on my TeeVee. The sad reality, however, is that most networks are loathe to admit they've made a mistake by paying some idiot big bucks to sit at a table and make idiotic comments about what "real Americans" think and want (witness Tucker Carlson). Even with his dismal ratings, MSNBC kept him around much longer than they should have. I DO write to the various shows and their networks to express my disgust but I've never really believed that doing so had much impact. After all, Glen Beck is still on CNN!

@ JohnPM
[Read the article: The harmony between the Right and the media]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Unfortunately, it's not about "truth" or even "news," it's about ratings and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$! They will continue to feed us an endless buffet of crap salad, crap appetizers, crap soup, crap entrées and crap dessert until we turn off their crappy shows and stop buying their sponsors' crappy products!

Lieberdickman
[Read the article: Things that don't exist in Harry Reid's world]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What do we need to do to convince our Democratic Senators to elect a Democratic Majority Leader like Chris Dodd? Do principles matter at all to Harry Reid? Apparently not! Just imagine what would happen in the Republican Party if Chuck Hagel decided to endorse and campaign for Barack Obama!

@Chris Sinnard
[Read the article: Things that don't exist in Harry Reid's world]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Chris,
I'm really not sure how what you said has anything to do with my comment. No matter how hard he tries, Harry Reid continues to disappoint. Joe Lieberman is a joke and an embarrassment to both himself and the Democratic Party. My God, he's campaigning for the REPUBLICAN candidate for President! According to Harry, Joe could go "postal," declare himself "King of the World" and put out a hit on every Democratic candidate in '08 and he would still be Harry's "good friend" and member of the Democratic Caucus. It's insane! And could someone please speak to the notion that if Joe leaves the Dem Caucus that the Senate would swing to Republican control. From all I've heard, the Senate will remain under Democratic control until 2009 EVEN IF Joey "cuts and runs" from the Caucus. Finally, Ron Paul will be nothing more than a footnote to the 2008 election. His impact has been minimal in the primaries and his influence within the Republican Party, negligible.

Network Snooze
[Read the article: Network news anchors praise the job they did in the run-up to the war]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If I ever watched network news anchors before (which I quit doing years ago), I definitely would not watch them now. These folks are frightening in their cavalier attitude towards their jobs. If journalists don't ask hard questions and debate the politicians, who's supposed to do so ... all those hand-picked, pre-screened audience members that Bush allows into his town hall meetings? And I'm quite certain that if the technology exists to "shred" e-mails, the White House installed it long ago. Maybe they have Ted Stevens sitting by the toobz, scissors in hand, just waiting ... so that GW doesn't have to hear any contrarian views.

John McCain
[Read the article: What John McCain didn't learn in Vietnam]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks, Joe! This is probably the most rational and realistic assessment of why McCain's Vietnam experience matters and the questions that should be asked but, unfortunately, are not. The fact is that, at his age, he seems impervious to anything but "more and bigger bombs" and the belief that "the number of casualties is inconsequential regardless of facts that come to light showing that our initial calculations were flawed." There's "tough" and then, there's "stupid." Bush has showed us how tragic the combination of "tough and stupid" can be. I want my President to be "tough" but when facts show a policy to be misguided and counter-productive, I want that President to CHANGE THE POLICY. McCain's solution seems to be "if a policy isn't working, continue the same policy and add to the "quantity" of what we're doing, while ignoring the "quality." More lives and treasure wasted, all in the name of "winning."

Obama in Berlin
[Read the article: Obama's political brilliance in Berlin]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]McCain: "I had the courage and judgment to say that I would rather win the war than [win] a political campaign. It seems to me that Sen. Obama would rather lose the war than win a political campaign."
Bragging about sinking three pointers pales in comparison to McCain's ego-filled, desperate and hateful proclamation that he had the "courage and judgment" to "say" something! He's been running for President for at least eight years and this is the best he can do? Obama's words soar and lift us up; McCain's "courage and judgment" got us into Iraq and will, most likely, result in America or Israel opening up a third front in Iran. "Courage and judgment? What we have in McCain is a G.W. who actually served his country instead of wimping out of the National Guard in Alabama. But regarding his ego and his intellect, he's every bit as arrogant and "intelligent" as Bush.

Why Is the Race Close?
[Read the article: A tale of two campaigns]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Gee, let's see...
Our country elected George W. Bush president, not once, but TWICE!
That was simple!
