one "problem" with McCain's brainwashing

He's been worked over and brainwashed by the ultra-right wing of his party, and he knows the rules: if McCain wants a shot at the Oval Office, he will toe the line on every issue to the Conservative oligarchy's satisfaction.

It seems from the initial article that McCain can't seem to remember what these positions are...although I guess he can just continue to say "whatever GW said" when asked.

Should be interesting to see how this plays throughout the campaign, if the Dems fumble this ball they are being handed I officially give up.

Could it be...

I can't let myself believe that the MSM is beginning to tire of its lap dance with McCain. I guess hope springs eternal no matter how hard the current administration works to extinguish all hope.

The Democratic party better get to work in getting the message out that a vote for McCain is as good as Bush/Cheney08 because this "moderate" label for McCain is very, very pervasive.

Kind of like Barry Bonds...

way too much baggage. But then again, Barry could at least play "his" game at a high level. Fredo? Not so much.

Besides, given Gonzalez' issues with honesty any firm would have to hire a second associate to check all of his work.

Doesn't sound too employable to me.

so elephantman..

Where is Gonzalez currently employed? Share with us your inside knowledge that proves that Benen is wrong and he has a job afterall. Far better than your usual sniping would be some "proof" of your position.

Unless of course he's just collecting unemployment.

Right, elephantman...

I have no more proof that Gonzalez is currently employed, than you have of the Times' story. But since your side started this story, not I, and not Gonzalez, can I first ask you directly: who the sources are for proof that Gonzalez is being rejected for employment by a large number of law firms?

Interesting assumption--- you have no clue as to my "side". But schoolyard arguments or boasts ("he called me something first") are somewhat pathetic. Since you clearly hold yourself to the highest of standards, far, far above those of most readers of Salon, go ahead, prove your superiority here by supporting your claims that Benen's article is bogus-- if he's presently employed, the story is clearly wrong, go for it. Of course, Alberto may just want to spend some time at home and isn't interested in working at present, right?

Are there hard facts to support this story, or is it just a bunch of Bush-hating New York liberals, sittin' 'round, talkin'?

As opposed to a Bush-bumboy running around defending the "honor" of deceitful guys like Gonzalez under the guise of arguing against "false" reporting? Really, you don't have to hate poor, limited GW to dislike what his appointees have done to our government --- unless of course, you're in full support of all that has transpired for the past 8 years. But dismissing dissent or disagreement as "Bush-hating" absolves you of higher thought it seems. So simple that way.

goodness elephantman,

Why so nasty? Are you defensive? Maybe it's hard to defend Fredo? Maybe he really wasn't god's gift to all that is the Justice Department and this fine country? Nah-- you're just like your godhead, Rush, resulting to name-calling when you have nothing substantive to say or heaven-forfend, someone doesn't agree with you.

Speaking of a defense--- it seems that his spokesman had an opportunity to directly refute this heinous accusation regarding this fine American that you clearly revere as a legal mastermind, unfairly besmirched by the evil (ooops, I mean liberal, same difference) NYT and the unemployed Steve Benen.

Asked about reports that law firms have not taken up feelers from Mr. Gonzales, Robert H. Bork Jr., a corporate communications specialist and his spokesman,, said Mr. Gonzales was talking to many people about the next steps in his career. “He is considering his opportunities in law and business,” Mr. Bork said, “but after many years in public service he is considering his options carefully.”

So, you avatar of all that is fair (for all Americans, I'm sure, oh wait, not the people who live in NYC) --- why didn't his own spokesman shoot down this scurrilous claim? Why not simply say "No, this is untrue, he is considering many fine offers, as befits a man of his integrity and intellectual depth".

Maybe because he couldn't refute it without lying? Not that it has stopped many of these guys before. But I know that doesn't bother you in the slightest.

I give up

Great, now we have a two-day turnaround on his "rationales" for his "deeply held" positions.

Look, is it asking too much to maybe, just maybe, think through an idea (and a few ramifications perhaps) for more than 30 sec before proposing economic plans?

Maybe toss the idea around a few people not riding along with you on that "Straight (into a ditch) Talk Express" before giving speeches?

I give up.

Buffalonian....

I don't understand why a sitting senator announces what he proposes the government do and then not do anything. If he actually thinks this is a good idea, why is he not sponsoring legislation? He's a big wig. He could probably get it to committee. Doesn't it seem preposterous to "propose" something as if he were a member of a think tank and not one of people in charge of making laws.

I have to admit, this was pretty darn funny-- given that the evidence that McCain is capable of serious thinking is pretty scarce at present.

Besides, if you actually go through with legislation you propose you might actually be held responsible for something, and we know that there is no sense of responsibility whatsoever within our current government.
