  • keeping guns out of the hands of 'bad' people...

[Read the article: Gun control or "hopes and prayers"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

With guns so readily available it is obviously impossible to keep them out of the hands of those who would harm innocent people. Look at the profile of those who've massacred during such rampages - they are male for sure, tend to be on the younger side. Race/ethnicity are insignificant - they're all over the board whether one supports that kind of profiling or not. Two common traits is that they are anti-social & of the loner sort. But that doesn't necessarily mean anything either. And let's not scapegoat their pop culture and/or subcultural leanings - that's just plain ignorant. We've all known loners - most of whom were decent, harmless people.

Thus, without getting into the 2nd amendment debate, which I have no intention of doing (I'm Canadian), I can only conclude that these horrific, senseless killings will happen, especially in the USA, from time to time, and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

  • giving bad customers the boot

[Read the article: The man who made Gordon Ramsay cry]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

That's great. More restauranteurs should do that, instead of treating the customer as king, when the customer is often the assh0le.

  • kitty not happy

[Read the article: Her sexy T-shirt says "Kitty Not Happy" -- is that OK at work?]

    Fucking brilliant response Cary Tennis!

  • midlife crisis

[Read the article: Midlife crisis: I could have been a singer!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

At 38 I had also decided to give the music thing another turn despite the responsibilities of family, mortgage, work & time mgmt. However, this time I didn't have expectations & decided that fun was the most important object. It is now 4 yrs (i'm 42) later & it struck me a couple yrs ago that I couldn't seriously do just music unless I was able to make about $100,000 /yr at it to not adversely affect my family's lifestyle. Obviously very few musicians can make that kind of coin & I decided to keep it as a serious hobby w/o the commerce factor.

Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that talent & desire are not enough in an emotional, subjective vocation & just accept things as they are. The great thing though, is now I can afford to buy whatever guitars, amps & music gear I want & that's at least half the fun.

  • go to Toronto

[Read the article: I'm an analytical chemist with a two-body problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There's a better chance of the gig working out great than the relationship. You may regret it in the short to medium term, but you'll get over it. Toronto is a great city, though I also have to say the Bay Area is the best part of mainland USA (I live in Vancouver, BC btw). Stick with your original priorities, which was career.

  • won't work

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'd give it a year - two tops before it folds.

  • fair game

[Read the article: A man farted in my face on the plane and I said nothing!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Farting is not like belching - one has less control over it & is better off passing the gas. Among impolite company - close friends, one may fart with reckless abandon - the louder the better. However, among polite company & strangers it is best to pass gas gingerly & silently. The oldster need not apologize to anyone. He got you & all you can do is pull your shirt over your face.

Farts are one of nature's inherently funny things. Even very young children find it amusing. Anyone who finds it offensive to fart in public is too anal & needs to lighten up to see the humour in it.

  • east vs west

[Read the article: Should I stay East or go West?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I would say that if you work in financial securities or for a company with an eastern time zone parent it is better to stay unless you don't mind waking up at 5:00am to get work by 6:00.

Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, SF - 4 great reasons to come west.

    1. homosexual

    2. deviant & anonymous gay sex

    3. denying that he's homosexual

  • spare him

[Read the article: I've had three miscarriages and my husband won't wear a yarmulke]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I would excuse the husband from any religious service in the future. That may go against your original deal, but so what, it's time for a change.

I am agnostic/atheist. I'll go to a (usually some sort of Christian denomination) church for someone's wedding or funeral. I'll stand & sit when instructed, but I don't take part in the prayers, hymns/songs, etc.

  • it's her life

[Read the article: Isn't 16 a little young for marriage? ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I say go to the wedding just because they're family. However, who the hell gets married at 16? It's not 1907 you crazy hayseeds!

  • move out but end friendship

[Read the article: I let my friends stay with me and now they're evicting me!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Let them have this one. Move out for the sake of the baby, but end the friendship with these selfish people.

  • bonus

[Read the article: Should I tell my new man that I used to date women?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Any straight guy would rather his partner been with numerous women than men. I don't consider women w/numerous lesbian lovers to be promiscuous, but a woman w/numberous male lovers certainly is a slut. Yes, it's a double-standard, but so what - it's also the TRUTH. Any hetero guy's gonna think, ooh - snap! Yes he might ask for a menage - I say go for it.

  • not an issue

[Read the article: Bringin' home the bacon, but no boyfriend]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm a married male who makes about the same salary as my wife. We've changed jobs a few times in our 9 yrs of cohabitation - she's made more than me & I've made more than her at various times.

I don't know a single guy who wouldn't mind having a bread-winner partner. In fact, we'd love it if she made enough that the guy can stay home.

  • package

[Read the article: Radiohead's new album: Choose your price]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Radiohead are in my top 10 current artists & I forked over the 40 quid, which is $81 + change Cdn$. It's a bit expensive - 40 Euro would've been more like it, but I imagine it might eventually be a collector's item of sorts or I'll give it to my son when he gets a bit older. I'm glad to support an uncompromising, progressive band even if they don't need my money.

  • good going

[Read the article: Sex, drugs and my 15-year-old]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There's nothing wrong with driving stoned if you can handle it & Kamiya can handle it. All you people who criticize him for doing so are too damn conservative.

  • I agree w/firing Skinner

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

What could he have been thinking? Sure Ramirez threw out Lofton earlier, but it was still a short, lob toss with a long one hop. It was an accurate, but weak throw & the 2nd base ump blew the call. Anyone could've made that throw. Ramirez has a weaker than average arm as outfielders go.

On the hard hit ball down the 3rd base line you have the exact two characters: a speedy Lofton & a slow, weak-armed Ramirez. When was the last time Ramirez earned an assist from an out at home plate? I couldn't believe Boston's good fortune on the play.
