GOVERNMENT SPENDING AND OUR WALLETS

Joe, newsflash: The government HAS no $$$!

GIMME ME YOUR WALLET!

“Yer wallet or yer life,” growls the thief to his victim, to which the victim either responds by turning over his wallet or, risking life and limb, refuses to surrender his wallet containing not only his money but his identity in the form of a driver’s license, credit cards, perhaps important phone numbers, and Lord knows what else.

That hackneyed stick-up line is outdated today since the thief is more likely now to shoot his victim, slit his throat, or bash him with a Louisville Slugger and then abscond with said wallet.

Even muggers were more civilized in the good ol’ days.

That scenario was brought to mind by a recent exchange I had with a much younger son of a good friend. The kid who is about 35, (anyone who was born after 1965 or so is still, relatively, a kid to me), happens to be a Wall Streeter and had asked me whom I was voting for and why.

Without hesitation, I answered, “McCain,” and I added, “not because I think he’s the political answer to my prayers but because he’s easily the better candidate, by far, to the alternative.”

Of course, I tossed the ball back into the kid’s court and asked him the same question.

With a comparable lack of hesitation, he replied, “I always vote my wallet,” meaning he casts his ballot for the candidate who will cause the least damage to his wallet and financial well-being.

As Seinfeld would say in a different context, “Not that there’s anything wrong with that!” And there is nothing essentially wrong with watching out for Number One. After all, if individuals in our society don’t watch out for themselves, then who will? The only alternative is government watching out for us and our government(s) doesn’t often focus on the middle class except in election years and that focus usually becomes astigmatic after Election Day.

Nevertheless, voting one’s wallet,...

Original article: I Like to Watch

I LIKE TO WATCH ALEC BALDWIN, FATHER EXTRAORDINAIRE!

ALEC BALDWIN EXPLAINS ALEC BALDWIN

In case you haven’t heard, or in case you don’t give a tinker’s dam, Alec Baldwin, fellow Long Islander, bon vivant, actor, dad, and arch-liberal, has been going through a rather messy divorce with Kim Bassinger.

Here, he finally speaks out concerning his youth and childhood, his early years in acting, how much he loves kids, and what he learned from his parents about child-rearing, including, “You can give your child many things, but the greatest gifts are your attention and your time.”http://www.aolhealth.com/healthy-living/relationships/alec-baldwin-divorce-fatherhood?icid=200100397×1211415957x1200658787.

Nowhere in his self-serving ramblings does he specifically refer to the infamous phone call he placed to his young daughter, Ireland, a short while back which, apparently, was taped by Bassinger–or by his daughter?

During that love-less call, he erupts with foul language...

McCain Could Win If He Wins NYC

NEW YORK CITY, SWEET LAND OF LIBERTY, AS LONG AS YOU ARE A LEFTIST

A brave group of souls took their lives in their hands when they dared to stage an orderly pro-John McCain march through the streets of New York City this past weekend. They were greeted by what can only be termed a typical reception for Republican conservatives in one of the most liberal-infested cities in America.

See the 5 minute video here (posted on Drudge): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQalRPQ8stI.

Actually, there’s nothing exceptional in that video. A group of McCain supporters exercised their consitutional rights to free speech and assembly and took to the streets carrying an American flag and pro-McCain placards. Nothing exceptional, except perhaps that the New York Times tomorrow will probably report it as, “Rabid McCainiacs Invade the City!”

Along their route, they were met with catcalls, obscenities, one finger salutes, boos, and general rudeness by New Yorkers. Nothing any more exceptional there than Sarah Palin’s reception by Philadelphia Flyers fans at the Flyers’ NHL home opener on Friday night, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/11/AR2008101101659.html, except that the boos weren’t tempered by cheers as they were on Friday.

However, in defense of New York City libs, I can explain all that, not actually defend it but at least explain it.

Having dwelt in that leftist cesspool for my first twenty five years, and after visiting innumerable times since then, I think I know Noo Yawkers very well. I can also attest to witnessing upcloseandpersonal the nature of the New York City Political Beast.

Half a lifetime, or more, ago, I served in the trenches of the failed "Goldwater for President" campaign. ...

LIBS JUST HATE WET DREAMS

THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT LIBERALS, A SAD SOMETHING

If there’s something about Mary, there’s a much bigger something about liberals!

What is it about this crew and good news? It seems to give them diarrhea. The old, and crude, view that some people could screw up a wet dream must have been based on observations of libs.

Today the Dow Jones Industrial Average soared by 936 points, an incredible record-setting day for Wall Street and a damned good sign of renewed confidence in the markets which may translate into a turnaround for our recent malaise and signal a major boost for the economy.

Instead of exulting and positive thinking in that massive surge, we read this on Salon.com, http://www.salon.com/tech/htww//, not exultation in that boost for the capitalism and energy that is the basis of America’s prosperity and a great confidence-builder for those with 401(k)’s and 403(b)’s and for most investors, but a warning.

In that Salon.com piece, Andrew Leonard writes, ...
