  • Friendly advice for Tony Snow

[Read the article: The Snow job, Day 1]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Message to Tony: As likeable as you are , the honeymoon stage of your relationship with the press is now already over! And it's your fault. I don't think you can even begin to repair such an inauspicious "new kid on the block" beginning. You're a nice man but presently you look a bit of a fool.

Listen, find a principled position on any number of issues )facing the White House ASAP(read the morning headlines!) and resign; save what's left of your career.

  • Office was best; no thought on American Idol?

[Read the article: I Like to Watch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Truly, truly, The Office was the best show of the season. Sheer genius was at work every Thursday night!

But God looked down and didn't even catch one night of American Idol? Didn't even comment? At all?

    Remarkable piece; great writing!

What a wonderful way to discover a damn good writer I don't already know about! Now I can research her name for other stuff and flag my file for The Seal Press Anthology of Dec. '07

This offering today demonstrates the reason I am a paying member of Salon!

Good changes, but that anonymous catagory should be next to go. Salon keeps getting better!

  • Kudos, CaryTennis!

[Read the article: I'm mentally ill but I'm no mass killer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Brilliant, succint and useful observations and advice! Only a very well-informed and sensitive person could have written this reply and I thank Cary Tennis for being specific, truly helpful, and remarkably understanding.

Also, congratulations to Salon for the level of writing like this it consistently offers to us all. I. for one, will forward and print this particular piece and believe its contents has the potential to change attitudes and be of consolation to many.

  • The Fix

[Read the article: Goodbye to the Fix, for now]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It was silly of Salon to continue it exactly, word for word for weeks if not months; it made Salon seem not to have an editor in charge of final product, daily! I wrote two e-mails about how that looked to the world, got one pre-fab reply. I had recommended giving the name and space to a creative new staff person who would love the challenge to make something out of it. Deleting it altogether is fine with me. I, for one, won't miss it. How about calling it something like "Spin and Spine" and just running it during this current election/post election season?

  • Got what he deserved? No!

[Read the article: At her majesty's pleasure]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Mr. Kurth's treatment was sub-human.

    1) U.S.Airline employees should be informed of the precise potential results of signing off to foreign authorities with a passenger who behaves like this.Kurtz did not deserve his grotesque week in torment. He had no record. If I were that airline employee I would regret what policies I put in motion after that passenger behaved so badly, yes even with the yelling and being a drunk and called me a truly viciously degrading name. Sticks and stones vs. name-calling!

2)Change the policy and make sure the destination country will hand over this type case to the American embassy/CIA who would be directed to place the passenger in a "safe house" prison-style area, assigned a defender etc; all costs to be born by the passenger/prisoner or by his family/friend or employer or other fund, possibly up-front by charge card/wire.

    3) Don't allow a passenger with a time-wise "invalid" passport on any plane from he get-go!

In the meantime, I was stunned by the pace and descriptions in a stunningly well-told story. BRAVO, Mr Kurtz!

Ah, ust another reason Salon members are justified in putting forth money to support the "good writing and good thinking" which is presently better than ever. Some of us have been there ever since the old days, when I heard about Salon and actually did not own a computer and went to Barnes and Noble to ask if there was such a thing as a paper copy available...You've come a long way baby!

  • Surely Verhoeven is Dutch? Born in Amsterdam I believe

[Read the article: Beyond the Multiplex]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Please correct your statement placing Paul Vehoeven a a German (!) national. He was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.Forgive my sensitivity but as someone who is Dutch (born Rotterdam 1939) I'd like to set this record straight. Surely he has not become someone with German citizenship during his wonderful career (see movie "The Nasty Girl" etc.

  • font option

[Read the article: Reading with the Kindle]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I was impressed with the option to change fonts. For youngsters just learning and oldsters with sight problems this is a "good thing" to add to your video about the new Reader. For teens, the sheer portability of the thing will be

earth-shattering! How wonderful that everyone's reading enjoyment (entertainment, instruction;solace!) will be enhanced by this precedent setting invention. The cost per family(!) seems do-able for some now and will soon go down I expect. From a former teacher, library assistant, and present grandmother: hooray!
