  • It was the parents' neglect, not the vegan diet

    [Read the article: Murderous vegans]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

According to an article in People Magazine, the parents' also eschewed medical care for the baby, beginning with giving birth in the bathtub, not a hospital, and continuing with neglecting to have the infant seen by a doctor.

This unfortunate baby was not killed by veganism. He was starved to death, albeit unintentionally, by clueless parents.

  • Correlation between bad airports and airplane safety records?

[Read the article: Ask the Pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Dear Mr. Smith:

Do you know if there is any correlation between bad airports and airplane crashes/malfunctions? It would seem logical that the more miserable and careless the airport workers are, the more problems will be encountered with the mechanics and others who ensure the safety of the planes themselves.

Incidentally, I second the LW who lauded Buffalo's airport. It's a wonderful airport.

    Thanks.

  • Being vegan is easy...

    [Read the article: Murderous vegans]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...once you know what you're doing. I've been vegan for over 10 years. Before I did that, I read up on where to get my various sources of nutrients. I have to tell you, it is not hard at all to get proper nutrition as a vegan, and for the average person, it ought to only take a few months to get it down pat. Like anything new, practice makes perfect, but when it comes to eating vegan, since you do it multiple times a day, you learn pretty quickly. Besides, when even the local mainstream supermarket stocks veggie ground round, vegan deli slices, vegan cheese, and frozen vegan lunches, being vegan today is easier than ever. Of course, if you're a nincompoop who only eats white bread and ketchup, you may be a vegan, but not for long -- you'll be dead. So yes, for nincompoops, eating healthy, be it vegan or not, will always be a problem.

To the letter writer below who talked about the sickly vegans he/she saw: stop exaggerating.

  • Steaming an animal to death.

[Read the article: The king of summer comfort food]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Mr. White said: "Steaming is a slower cooking process and it cooks lobsters more gently and they come out more tender."

In other words, Mr. White recommends killing a living, feeling animal slowly and very painfully. Nothing can justify this kind of cruelty.

  • For Domini: Scat mats. And, a word to the trolls

[Read the article: I hate my cat!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Domini,

In my home we use two devices to keep the cats off of things: scat mats, and pointy pads. Scat mats run on batteries and give off a mild static electric shock. They're safe and 100 percent effective. You can Google the best prices for those. We also use pointy pads on our chairs, and you can buy those from Drs. Foster & Smith.

For all you trolls recommending idiotic and cruel "solutions" to the LW's problems, what personal shortcoming motivates you to waste your time writing those posts?

  • Meadow killed Tony

[Read the article: "The Sopranos" goes dark]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Think about it. Meadow tells Tony she wants to be a lawyer because she was outraged at the way the FBI kept harrassing him. Tony responded with a look of incredulity. Deep down, Meadow realized that she was in denial and living a lie. Her father really was a murderer!

Meadow seethes with resentment and self-loathing. How could her father have deceived her all these years? Worse, how could she have deceived herself? Her anger grows and grows.

Come the night of the diner. They're all their except for Meadow. Meadow cannot do something as simple as parking her car. Why? Because's she's too agitated and nervous, but about what? About what she's about to do, that's what!

The scene ends with Meadow entering the diner. Tony looks up, and darkness falls. It is obvious what happened. Meadow walked in with guns blazing and shot Tony dead.

Pretty clever, that David Chase guy. Who woulda thunk it?

  • Glue traps are cruel and used by heartless people.

[Read the article: How do I get rid of mice? Plus: Testimonials needed!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It is not natural for mouse to wander into a sticky morass where it's eyes, nose and mouth get filled with glue and it dies a slow and agonizing death. Anyone who advocates using glue traps is advocating terrible cruelty to animals and should be ignored, and shunned as a heartless and sick person.

Either by a traditional mouse which kills quickly, or buy a live trap and relocate the mouse to the outdoors.

  • Releasing mice outdoors and human health

[Read the article: How do I get rid of mice? Plus: Testimonials needed!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Ahoythere wrote, "While I respect the compassion of those who trap mice and put them outside, I think it's somewhat misguided. Every year dozens of people, often children and elderly, die from hantavirus caused by breathing in mouse droppings."

I understand your concern, but thousands and thousands of people are killed by cars and pollution and guns and other manmade hazards, so releasing mice out into the wild is barely cause for concern in comparison; conversely, letting them live is, IMHO, the right thing to do whenever possible.

  • Cruelty

[Read the article: How do I get rid of mice? Plus: Testimonials needed!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It's amazing to me to see any Salon readers supporting the use of heinous glue traps, but there you have it.

With supposedly thoughtful Salon readers advocating a slow and very painful death for animals, despite humane alternatives (including quick kill traps), the only conclusion to be drawn is that there is no hope for a peaceful world. People are simply too willing to hurt, torture, kill, and destroy animals and each other. That, or they're just too damned lazy to find a better way.

  • Risk offending him.

[Read the article: I work with the most annoying man alive]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

LW, just tell this annoying man that you find his [fill in the blank behavior] annoying, and to please not do it around you.

The results would be: 1) he stops doing it and is otherwise polite to you; 2) he stops doing it but no longer likes you; or 3) he keeps doing it.

Numbers 1 and 2 are good outcomes. Number 3 is merely the status quo.

    Go for it.

  • The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch

[Read the article: Rudy Giuliani, unscripted]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it." Amen.
