Glenn, please change the headline on the article. As far as I can tell, these raids have all been in Ramsey County, which contains St. Paul but not Minneapolis (which is in Hennepin County). All of the reports have referred to the Ramsey Co. sheriff's office, headed by the controversial Bob Fletcher, carrying out the raids. But have any of the raids occurred in Mpls or anywhere else outside Ramsey County?
I just checked the Star Tribune site and evidently the Ramsey co. sheriff's did raid homes in Minneapolis, acting outside their jurisdiction(!?)
Thank you, Thomas, for reminding us of this great man. I met him once during his first term, on a plane from Mpls to Washington that was undergoing delays. Of course, Paul (who was sitting behind me in coach class) was working the aisles, keeping everyone loose and laughing. The woman sitting next to me, not knowing who he was, asked his political leanings. Paul pulled himself to his full height (as short as he was), and said, "Ma'am, I'm a conservative Republican!" much to the delight and amusement of those who heard him. Thinking about this has reminded me that Paul was never one to demonize the other side. He worked with Democrats and Republicans alike, and was one of the great champions of our veterans. It's hard not to think how different the last six years would be if he were still representing Minnesota in the Senate. I told him that the vote I had cast for him was the proudest vote that I had ever cast. I'm sure he will be pleased on Nov 4 as I cast the proudest vote I have ever cast for president, for Barack Obama.
It's interesting to note that Keith Ellison, despite his faith, is on his way to an easy re-election in his Minneapolis district.
As a Minnesotan, I would be ecstatic if Al Franken beats Coleman, but my off-the-wall prediction is that if Norm does win, he'll switch back to being a Democrat. (Maybe number 60?) He always has had his finger to the wind and only switched to being a 'pubbie when it seemed like his best chance to advance his career. I'm not in her district but seeing Bachmann lose would also be sweet.
Two songs playing in my head all day:
Dancing in the Streets (I like the Grateful Dead version, but any would do), and of course the old Democratic theme, Happy Days are Here Again.
The fact of the matter is that Tim Walz represents a rather conservative, rural southern Minnesota district, so while his vote may have "infuriated" some of his supporters, it was probably applauded by many of his constituents.
Michelle Bachmann has revoked her status as a true Minnesotan for complaining about Washington weather that was well above 0 degrees Fahrenheit. How many times to we have to say that the global climate is not determined by the weather in one place at one time?
I meant to say "How many times do we have to say..."
