  • Dave's here..

[Read the article: Karl Rove's sly deal with Fox]

Sorry to Mr. Never forgets- I guess even the blind squirrel finds the nut once in a while! 501c4, not 501c3, obviously a secretive, leftist cult dedicated to the overthrow of all that is right with America: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/501(c)

"501(c)(4) exemptions are given to civic leagues or organizations not organized for profit and operated exclusively for the promotion of social welfare, or local associations of employees. Net earnings are devoted exclusively to charitable, educational, or recreational purposes.[7]

The exemption applies so long as "...no part of the net earnings of such entity inures to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual."[8]

Characteristics that set these organizations apart from a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization include but are not limited to:

Limited membership. Examples include limiting membership to the employees of a designated company or persons in a particular municipality or neighborhood.

Broader ability to lobby for legislation.

[edit] Deductibility of donations to 501(c)(4) organizations

Unlike donations to 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, donations to a section 501(c)(4) organization are not deductible by the donor under section 170 of the code unless the recipient organization is either:

a volunteer fire department as described in revenue ruling 80-77

a veteran organizations with at least 90% of its membership consisting of war veterans as described in IRS Revenue Ruling 84-140.

    Prominent 501(c)(4) organizations

    AARP

    Christian Coalition

    Democratic Leadership Council

    League of Conservation Voters

    MoveOn.org

    and last but not least!

    National Rifle Association!

Wonder how much Soros has given them?

Again, I was wrong. Difference between me and E-man- I do make mistakes- he's never wrong, just because the (liberally biased) facts contradict him...

I hated "Dave's not here" in college, unless perchance you were offering me a Big Bamboo?

  • E-man has a point...

[Read the article: The California marriage decision and basic civics]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

albeit a moot one. The "Gay marriage" issue will undoubtable be tossed about by the Repubs. Only problem, they weren't going to vote for Obama anyway! All the other issues you mention (especially Iraq and the economy) are clearly polling as favoring the Democrats. I know you're hoping for a 2004, "get out the Religious Right against teh Gay" electoral moment, but the data suggest that marketing approach is played out.

  • Shooter pseudo-logic

[Read the article: Israel imposes a 10-year ban on American critic of Israeli policies]

I am not for deleting posts at all but if deleting posts of certain individuals is what it is about then Glenn shouldn't waste his time. Simply banning their IP would be more effective.-- adnoto

Excuse me, isn't that equivalent to Finkelstein being banned from Israel? If Glenn starts banning people, then he has no call to criticize Israel for doing the same thing.

    -- shooter242

If a person visited Isreal and repetetively performed acts of civil disobedience (i.e. snarling up traffic on a busy expressway) and continued to do so despite repeated warnings, would the government have a case for deporting him?

Shooter, you actually make a point once in a while (Blind squirrel and nut and all..)Still, it is clear that your goal is to be a snarky smart-ass and snarl up the discussion of the adults. Go hang out at Townhall- you'd actually be close to average intelligence over there...

Glenn, I would be most appreciative if you would terminate Shooter- preferably with "extreme prejudice" in the CIA lexicon...

  • I'm NOT a conservative or Republican...

    [Read the article: Nuclear bomb]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

but something seems not right here. I would like to see some data on the breakdown of these crazy costs. I suspect that a big chunk is in the safety systems required by the massive federal regulations of these plants. Don' get me wrong-the regulations are utterly necessary! American high pressure liquid cooled reactors are very efficient, and very dangerous as well. The French use less efficient, but much safer passive cooled reactors. If an American reactor (which is basically a submarine nuclear powerplant built up in size) fails, it melts down. If a French plant fails completely, it simply shuts itself down.

I think there is a role for rational nuclear power, but the existing utilities are very unlikely to admit they've been wrong and copy the French (of all people...)

  • Cool! We can legalize ALL drugs now!

[Read the article: Gambling with science]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If we accept the gambling industry's arguement...

You see, we now know that addiction is not solely a result of the chemical or behavior of concern. It is a complex interaction between biological predisposition, the chemical or behavior itself, and the social and environmental factors. Since the chemical isn't SOLELY to blame, how can it be ilegal?
