By background, I am a very busy psychologist who for some unknown reason tries to keep up on the REAL world in my few free minutes. I treasure your column because you are a first-rate critical thinker- what are the facts? What conclusions can be argued from them? Your column was a densely-packed source of solid thinking and critical analysis-in a world where screaming emotion has come to trump logic.

I echo what others have said about mass deletions. I believe I used the term “signal to noise ratio” here first, but in any case it is clear that more and more of the column’s content is taken up by irrelevancy and a few individuals who simply have ZERO ability to question their own initial assumptions- the sine qua non of critical thinking-but have endless time to defend them (don’t ANY of these MOFOs have a job???) Selfishly, as fast as I read, I can’t wade through 30 pages of posts to extract the 15-20 worthwhile posts any more. So delete away, and keep fighting the good fight.

Oh, and vis-a-vis your current column- may I have your permission to chain mail it to the conservative nitwits who keep filling my Inbox with Foxisms? I’m framing a copy for myself…

As I read his column, Glenn in no way “apologizes” for the Taliban, and clearly notes that much of what they do and have done is barbaric. He simply points out the hypocrisy and double-standard of US behavior, especially how it is perceived by those not coming from the “USA can do no wrong” folks.

WinSmith, your endless, projective rants against Glenn are getting tiresome (on a good day). We get it- Israel good, Glenn bad. Anything else OF SUBSTANCE to add? You have made many thoughtful and incisive posts on other topics, but you act like one of Dr. Pavlov’s dogs every time the “I-word” appears in this column. I know you can’t see this, but it’s true (you can trust me- I’m a doctor…)

As part of the conspiracy to instill him/her as president of the USA, the Bush administration (which was part of the larger plot) destroyed the WTC. Bingo!

To anyone with a soul reading this, therapist burnout is a huge problem. Another element not mentioned in this story is the pressure on Armed Forces mental health providers to "get them back in uniform", often with soldiers with significant pathology who will lose all chance of recovery if they are sent back in theatre. If the therapist genuinely cares about the folks he/she is working with, this adds the burden of guilt as well.

One of my best friends is a psychologist who just left on her third tour, and was at Fort Hood when the shooting happened. I'm a committed atheist, but I say a prayer every night for her...

Seriously, this study simply confirms what the mental health community has known for a long time- that homosexuality in a normal variant in sexuality (in MULTIPLE species, not just humans), and that any "pathology" is social- being told you aren't OK, that the way you actually are is shameful, etc. Ww de-pathologized homosexuality in 1973 (long overdue even then).

By the way, curent research in authoritarianism suggests that the right-wing authoritarian mindset is primarilyly biologic in nature. So please, y'all, show some tolerance to our dim-bulbed friend, it's not a "choice" to be a conservative asswipe...

David Brooks channeling Karl Rove! In Mr. Brooks infinite (and on the record, consistently wrong) wisdom, he "knows" the mind of the shooter. Ignore the facts on the ground (social isolation, trouble on the job, requests to get out of the Army) and jump right to "he's a terrorist"! So what country should we invade next, Mr. Brooks, based on your infallible REMF wisdom?

I was sure the "REMF" would cause it to be kicked, but if the shoe fits...

Glenn, well done for again pointing out the insane dissonance and hypocrisy of our pundit class. Could perhaps some "enhanced interrogation" change Brooksie's point of view? It's not like it would actually damage anything worthwhile, and it might be fun...

In all seriousness, the woman is clearly a ditz, who said something stupid in response to a stupid and probably unfair question. If she had left it at that she'd still have her crown. Instead, she lost her crown because she failed to make contractually required and scheduled appearances as Miss California, choosing instead to headline anti-gay marriage events. If you don't show up for work, you get fired. Not that hard for anyone except a young, not too bright conservative to understand, apparently.
