• Why would I waste an ounce of true wit on you people?
-- farragut
Indeed, my friend, ‘tis most painfully obvious you have none to spare…
Now, for the sane portion of humanity:
Ted Kennedy was a man. He made one horrible error in his life, at a time in history when society dealt with drinking and driving VERY differently. I got paddled in a public school about the same time- a teacher would lose their job and maybe go to jail for doing the same thing today. Times change (it’s called “evolution”, by the way…) He spent the rest of his life fighting for those who wre NOT blessed with what he was given- wealth and power. He actually though that he had some obligation to try to better the lives of those less fortunate than him. You can argue whether his approaches would have worked in the USA (although socialized medicine clearly provides better health outcomes than ours, at lower cost, everytwhere else on the planet it is used)but he truly cared.
GB- I feel the way you do at times. But you’re wrestling with the proverbial pig- you’re covering yourself and the rest of us who agree with you in shit, and the pigs (farragutless and his “lifetime loser” buddies) actually like it. Peace Out.
Davd Weber, my current fave sci-fi author now that Heinlein has moved on :-(, wrote a series of novels about an alien race that sweeps the galaxy trying to destroy all intelligent life, for no apparent reason. It develops that, millennia before, the race was attacked and facing extinction. To survive, they turned control over to intelligent computers that won the war. Unfortunately, the self-aware machines realized that, as long as the race was at war, they would maintain their control. So they declared war on life itself. Permanent war=permanent control. Fiction, of course…
You're missing the point...
this joke of genetics has CHILDREN!!!
'People do not want an investigation into Dick Cheney's role in detainee interrogation abuses, said Liz Cheney, a State Department official in the Bush administration."
So Liz Cheney is David Broder in drag?
Sorry for teh sarcasm. I live in SW Ohio, where they are proud of their "W- 2004" SUVs...
I fear she will gain the power to walk in daylight, and feed on us at will...
So how come legal surveillance didn't prevent 9/11?
Just asking.

The information that Osama Bin Laden was planning airplane suicide attacks was presented to the president, VP, and National Security Adviser in August. The data was obtained legally by the FBI. Do you think if it had been obtained illegaly that they would have been more likely to (as the Brits say) "get their thumbs out"?
Dipshit...
I've attempted to reason with you in the past. It's obvious that the only way to talk to you would start with a hypdermic dart gun, with about 300 milligrams of Thorazine as a loading dose. And I am a very well regarded psychologist, FWIW.
I'll make it simple- you have a psychotic-level fixation of some paranoid delusion relating Glenn Greenwald to destroying Isreal. You are a sick man. Get help. Or FOAD. I'm beyond caring which. But kept your crap off of here. Glenn, consider this a formal request to block WinSmith from UT.
OK,OK...I'll add OCD to your list of approved diagnoses. Happy now?
the hobgoblin of small minds.
Actually, this isn't "two-tiered justice", Glenn, as most reality-based liberals might think. It's a simple business-based model. One non-republican screwing another person=unforgivable crime. One republican screwing millions of people= not "really" a crime, partisanship, criminalizing policy differences, etc., etc. When will you liberals understand the difference between retail and wholesale???
SNARK ALERT!
I am channeling Amity!
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR MASTERY OF LOWERCASE IN COMMENTING!!!
YA SEE, STUPID COMMENTS ARE EVEN MORE STUPID AND ANNOYING WHEN DONE IN UPPERCASE!
But you've learned how to press the CapsLock key a second time! Can critical thinking be far behind?
“pragma
These two conflicts aren't really wars in the sense of WWII, Korea, or even Vietnam. Casualties are much lower...
Un-effin-believable.
Tell that the Iraqis whose dead may or may not have yet reached the horrifying standard of the dead Vietnamese. Or to the Afghanis whose country has been destroyed.””
That was my reaction as well. In fairness, though, pragma appears to be referring to US casualities in the sense of being less of a visible impact (and limited to volunteers- most folks DON’T know someone in the service). More of the “frog in boiling water” idea.
Ever see Flight of the Intruder? Great movie that captured the pointlessness of Viet Nam. Jake Grafton’s line “I know the difference between dying for something and dying for nothing” still rings true…
Why must all "two towers" metaphors mean the WTC? Come on- haven't you read the Lord of the Rings Trilogy? And Tolkien was a Brit, to boot!
Perhaps Cheney can only be destroyed by casting him into the fires from which he was forged...
