@Mary...

so much for intolerance. Be careful or they'll revoke your Evangelical card :-)

Seriously, thanks for the reminder that God is love- would that Dobson and his ilk would remember as well.

Night all...

Sigh...

"It’s just not clear- is it the SIXTH or SEVENTH Circle of Hell, that is reserved for the judgmental and self-righteous?"

accommodations in hell are not reserved. it's open seating

I'll save you a seat close by the fire.

Question for Mary...

Mary, you are obviously a devout Christian and learned in Scripture. Can you help me with a question I have been researching?

It’s just not clear- is it the SIXTH or SEVENTH Circle of Hell, that is reserved for the judgmental and self-righteous?

Glenn, do you ever sleep?

I eagerly await a transcript of the debate! Granted that authoritarians are immune to logic, but none the less…This argument always shuts up my republican friends:

Conservatives worship free market capitalism. If you accept its postulates, then the War on Drugs is, prima facie, unwinnable. Since criminalization reduces supply, according to the Law of Supply and Demand, prices will rise, which will attract entrepreneurs into a profitable market niche. In addition, competition improves both the distribution system (gangs killing each other over market share) and the products themselves (cocaine becoming crack, more potent marijuana, designer drugs).

Second, since conservatives believe that government can’t solve problems, AGREE with them by pointing out the enormous growth of government in the WoD and its putrid rate of return. Decriminalization actually broadens the market into a range of legal private suppliers, treatment programs, etc.

Finally, when their heads start to swell and explode, offer them some medical marijuana- it has been shown to reduce intercranial pressure!

Never assume a conspiricacy...

Maybe it’s because of upcoming March Madness, but somehow this puts me in mind of college basketball coaches in the “glory days” of recruiting. When your job depends on winning, and your competition is cutting corners if not outright cheating, AND the alumni don’t give a crap that your players graduate and don’t get in trouble with the law, if you’re not making the “Big Dance” (the NCAA tourney) every year- you are gone. This doesn’t justify coaches cheating to get the players they need to be competitive- but it certainly explains it. Substitute “journalists” for coaches and you get the idea.

IMHO Glenn’s point is that the entire media-political-money system is inherently and totally corrupted. So you don’t need a “conspiracy” to explain the behavior of most journalists- simple greed, stupidity, laziness, and fear of losing their privileged positions explains their behavior just fine. Must go throw up now…

Calm down here...

Jebbie-

Please, lets avoid language that is demeaning to our brothers of the gay persuasion.

Besides, ten bucks says JITA is a spitter anyway…

And Farragut makes JITA look halfways smart!

Exceptionalism? Or psychopathology?

Glenn-

awesome as always (even if it did ruin my lunch..)

I have long believed that there has been an increasing trend for upper management in ALL organizations is dominated by narcissitic sociopaths. Their certainty and lack of anxiety makes them seem competent and attractive, particulary when uncertainty is high. Their inability to see themselves as ever being wrong leads to scapegoating, and their destructive management leads to ongoing crises which require both external and internal "enemies" to blame (since it CAN'T be THEM who is the problem) They are sadistic and genuinely enjoy hurting others, especially when immunized by their positions. And finally, they promote those like them (and who suck up to them) thus perpetuating and metastasizing the dysfunction.

An interesting example/analysis in your profession:

Thank you Zoltan

for proving my point beyond any doubt whatsoever.

Peace Out

Ummm...guys...

Just an FYI from my area of expertise...

Zoltan/Lotus is/are wackjobs. Rocky is a idiot, taking moron classes, and skimping on his homework. E-man and Shooter are simply contrarians. They should be grateful to the tiny-brained trio for making them look at least halfway literate...

Seriously, I enjoy Glenn's thoughts and the discussions of most of the posters here. But y'all are wasting way too much bandwidth on these fools. They don't want a debate- they just want your attention. I am very busy and jump to this place in my too-rare spare time, and I'd appreciate less chaff to go with the high-quality wheat...

Thanks

Original article: Counter-terrorism logic

@Zoltan...

or, perhaps a simpler hypothesis would explain the observed data. Could it be that you are, at best, an oppositional-defiant child, and at worse, a total fucking moron?

Enquiring minds have already forgotten you...

@NotOrbitBoy

what the hell does that article have to do with anything in this thread? Assume that the doctor is in fact incompetent-he lost his license, which is what should happen. Perhaps if doctors didn't have their lives and families threatened by Xtian nutjobs for providing a LEGAL service, more of them would be willing to do so. Is that the goal- chase the competent doctors away, so any woman desiring a "evil" procedure like abortion will get treated by an incompetent? By teh way, when a Christian tele-evangelist's teeneage daughet gets pregnant, they get a top-quality abortion by a professional- daddy just has her flown to Europe on his private jet. First hand knowlege...

If abortion were illegal, how long should the woman go to jail? You f**kers never cease to amaze me with your self-righteous stupidity...
