Biters

They aren't being effectively watched or disciplined. The center needs to time them out for biting. You should bring this up. Kids grow out of it, but still. At the very least, teach your child to tell the biter: "Stop! That hurts."

Idiots!

Biting other people is NOT normal. Get the kid to STOP. It is not that hard. If you have a biter...time the kid out. It works. No excuses.

Something to consider...

I hear you, and Cary, good answer. Please consider...the people (or person?) who made the money in the first place was likely not a very attentive parent. I'm set to inherit as well, and guess what, the only reason my parents were able to earn their independent fortunes (they divorced when I was seven) was because they weren't being parents. At all. I am an only child, and did all of the same things you mention, save for helping siblings. We raised ourselves, it sounds like we have that in common.

Please consider that your guy may indeed have been neglected -- though taken on fancy vacations regularly, that doesn't mean he was well loved and well cared for. Maybe you are both able to see how to do better, and are just coming from opposite sides of the parental coin toss. Talk, it will be ok. Money comes and goes, really, it does.

thinking about loss...

Pretend you're dealing with the aftermath of a divorce announcement -- something's been stolen/broken and in the aftermath repaired/recovered. Like a family, kinda. Your life on that box is gone, and it's ok to mourn. Time heals.

Blue collar Catholics?

The last time that was a significant demographic group was about fifty years ago, correct?

Youth vote

Under 30? Try under 40 or 50...we're all for Obama. Sounds like some folks are trying to recapture their "youth" vote.

Maybe I'm naive...

...but I have been thinking for the last week or so that both McCain and Obama should get back to work for a week or so -- in the Senate, to understand the bailout legislation, shape solutions and lead their colleagues, who are flat out incapable of making decisions without knowing how this might affect them politically. They want to duck behind their candidates, and will fiddle without them. And I'm a huge Obama fan.
