  • @maureen, dear... I am NOT in a good mood, true...

[Read the article: How close were Barack Obama and Tony Rezko?]

How lovely to quote Byron. But there is a lot to Assyrian history and geography not in that one poem.

Yes, Assyria was warlike in its history, but, as we can see with Hillary Clinton's ill-fated and ill-considered Senate votes, being bellicose is not just the domain of men or male power.

And no, I'm not in a good mood. I used to love Salon, and it helped me survive the last two presidential campaigns, but somewhere along the way, it has morphed into an extension of HillaryClinton2008.com, with Joan Walsh insisting that she's covering the race fairly, impartially, and journalistically -- as she laughs at us readers behind our backs and updates her resume for the Clinton Transition Team.

Call me grumpy, but I miss the way Salon used to be. I miss the Salon that would have never published a hack writer like Ted McClelland who has an axe to grind against Obama. I miss the Salon that wasn't a passive-aggressive tabloid. I miss the Salon that DID feature journalism, and not punditry and propagandizing.

  • And What Did They Say on the Obama Conference Call, Joan...

What? We won't hear about that part of the story? Gee, why am I not suprised?

And I guess I should also not be surprised that, even though the Clinton campaign has disavowed that comment, YOU choose to run the "Is Obama health-scare ad as bad as "Nazis marching in Skokie"? line right up there front and center in the promo for your blog post. I'm actually surprised you didn't make it the title of your post, so that you could get it to show up in Google feeds.

As Super Tuesday approaches, your pandering is becoming ever more obvious and undignified, and your credibility, already strained, is rapidly draining away.

  • An OUTRAGEOUS Smear -- And Outrageous of Salon to Reprint it and Further It

    [Read the article: Campaign wrap]

"Accusing political opponents of Nazism is an outrageous smear. Raising the specter of a Nazi march in response to a health care mailer that evokes the insurance industry is so absurd, it would be hard to take the attack seriously, were it not launched from a high profile national campaign conference call in this crucial stretch of the presidential race. And political observers know, of course, that the Clinton Campaign regularly arranges opportunities for surrogates to launch these kind of smears, which are later followed up with apologies. Garry, looks like you've appointed yourself Bill Clinton to Joan's Hillary, eh? Now you're the designated defender at large?

It's actually quite relevant whether or not the editor of an online magazine is biased or impartial in coverage of the election. You may think that's irrelevant to bring up, but then, not all of us fall into lockstep behind your boorish tirades, aka, opinions.

I don't despise Joan, frankly, I think she's a great writer, has some really interesting insights, which is why it hurts me more. I used to LOVE Salon. It helped me survive the last 2 presidential elections. That is why I am so damn disappointed that she has herself written, as well as edited the writing of others, that is heavily biased against Obama and for Hillary (again, go look it up, Gars...I know you can read.) I would accept it if she just gave an endorsement personally, or for Salon as a whole. But to maintain a fiction, a fantasy of impartial, unbiased journalism, is to me, quite insulting.

I'm arguing for REAL impartiality in Salon's coverage of the elections. And as for Joan, she's a big girl, and she can defend herself quite well on her own. I doubt she needs your ranting in her defense.

So, time to put away your Playskool junior psychiatrist kit, Gar, and let us grownups continue the conversation.

  • Good point, soopergrover... re: Democract-on-Democrat smackdown politics

I agree with you. I'm not loving the Obama campaign's tactics on that ad. But both candidates' campaigns have done, said, agreed to, and disseminated via surrogates, things I think are ethically questionable.

But it appears to be the way the game is played in 2008. And yes, if the Republicans/Republican nominee are going to charge hard, with everything they've got, all the Rovian dirty tricks in the playbook, and launching every Swiftboat smear tactic available, then BOTH candidates have to be prepared for battle.

Hillary's campaign can't smear/attack Obama, and then claim that it's ok, because it's nothing compared to what he would face against the Republicans, and act like they're somehow doing him some sort of service -- while at the same time, shrieking about how unfair and horrible it is when his campaign responds in kind.

Either Democract-on-Democrat smackdown politics toughens up both candidates and readies them for the Republican attack or it doesn't.

But it's not selective, and not just something Hillary's campaign can do to toughen up Barack...

Your nannynannybooboo playground antics are so very entertaining. I'm sure you're a hit at preschool. They sure give you a lot of time to play on the computer, don't they?

And why am I not surprised that you have an in-depth personal attachment to proctology.

Now it's time for you to put away your "How to Be Just Like Bill Clinton When I Grow Up" pop-up book (with the big words spelled out), and let us adults continue the conversation.

So Garry, while I find you so delightful, other threads need you. There are many needy threads for you to derail, non-sequiturs for you to issue, and topics ripe for your trolling.

  • Not Much Else in Your Life Going On, Eh Garry

Oh Garry, you're long overdue to buy a dictionary. That way, when we use big, grown-up words like non sequitur around here, you'll actually know how they're spelled, instead of using your [sic] incorrectly because your spellchecker doesn't like Latin. Tee hee. Maybe when you're a big boy, you can even study Latin! O tempora, O mores, O Hilaria, O Joan...

Now don't forget your Ritalin, and you be nice to the other kids in detention, m'kay?

It's cocktail time for the rest of us. Cheers!
