Hillary Won NH By Channeling Obama's Voice, Not By Finding Her Own

In her Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde "I'm for change" macho moment, and contrasting boo-hoo "Look, I'm human" episode, Hillary has "found her own voice?"

No, she found the voice of Obama, filtered through the polls and pundits and political consultants who told her that if she didn't start saying YOU and WE like Barack, instead of ME ME ME ME ME like she always does, she would LOSE. And if she didn't start showing some evidence of humanity, like Barack, instead of acting like some sort of Disneyland animatronic vote-seeking exhibit, as she usually does, that she was going to LOSE. And if she didn't do something to try to connect with women, as Obama does as second-nature, and instead acting like her typical unemotional ice queen self, she was going to LOSE.

It's ALWAYS political with Hillary. If her consultants told her that dying her hair brown would win her the fictional "anti-dumb-blonde" vote, Hillary would be reaching for the Clairol before the sentence was finished.

Joan, you say "she has to avoid future arrogant moments."

Well, call in the writers and handlers, because to do that, they're going to need to script her every waking moment and breath.

Because the truth is, Hillary Clinton IS arrogant.

She is arrogant enough to think that being a strident, uninspiring and uncharismatic wife of a governor and wife of a president, and serving in the Senate -- with the highlights being her two utterly disastrous and WRONG war votes -- equips her to unite a divided nation, and win back world respect. She is arrogant enough to assume she was "inevitable" and that she would automatically assume front-runner status and maintain it.

So, when you say she has to "avoid future arrogant moments," what you're really saying is, she has to avoid "appearing" arrogant to voters.

She has to avoid letting people know that she really is a very self-interested politician first and foremost, and that the most important decisions of her political career were all driven by her pandering desire to win, not her desire to vote her conscience, vote with her constituency, or to be a leader.

In order to keep winning, she has to avoid being her real, political self.

Being human, accessible, connecting with voters on a real, emotional level, and being able to signal to America, and the world, that it's a new day in America -- it's SECOND-NATURE to Barack Obama. And when she actually manages to be "appealing," it's manufactured, artificial, and politically calculated.

Hillary may have squeaked by to win by channeling Obama in NH, but she's going to have to be herself going forward, and that's just not going to cut it for many of us.

The Witch Is Not Dead -- She's Just Channeling Barack Obama

Hillary did not win NH because she suddenly became the candidate of change, or a more charismatic, compelling face of leadership.

She won because voters were, as Rebecca says, serving up "a major "Fuck you" -- not to Barack Obama, whose numbers were terrific, and who gave a great concession speech -- but to those who revealed their pent-up resentment of Hillary and showed her the door way, way too soon."

But it's one thing to say that disgust over a drooling Chris Matthews would send you to the polls to vote for Hillary. It's a whole different thing to realize that Chris Matthews' schadenfraude won't save us from Hillary and her cynical, politically-driven persona -- much less the absolutely WRONG votes supporting the war she made for purely political reasons.

Hillary didn't find her own voice and the witch is not dead. She merely adopted the voice of Obama, filtered through the polls and pundits and political consultants who told her that if she didn't start saying YOU and WE like Barack, instead of ME ME ME ME ME like she always does, she would LOSE.

Being human, accessible, connecting with voters on a real, emotional level, and being able to signal to America, and the world, that it's a new day in America -- it's SECOND-NATURE to Barack Obama. And when she actually manages to be "appealing," it's manufactured, artificial, and politically calculated.

Not because she's a woman. But because she's who she is. If she was a man, she'd be just as calculating. She'd be... Bill -- without personality or charisma. I guess that would be make her what, John Kerry?

Hillary may have squeaked by to win by channeling Obama in NH, but she's going to have to be herself going forward, and that's just not going to cut it for many of us.

Stunning Victory? Try Sympathy Vote

This was not a "stunning victory" for Clinton.

The "inevitable front-runner" -- who has only had less than 2 weeks of NOT being the inevitable front-runner, squeaked by with only a few points.

Hillary did not win NH because she suddenly became the candidate of change, or a more charismatic, compelling face of leadership.

She won because voters were delivering a message to the media who had attacked Hillary/vilified her tears. They were not repudiating Barack Obama -- he had a HUGE number of votes, and only a few thousand less than Hillary. They were voting AGAINST the media blowhards who were writing her off, and declaring her out of the race.

What's the deal, Walter. Did they supply a fresh batch of Koolaid at the victory press conference last nite?
