And Why Not?
[Read the article: Is Jeri Kehn Thompson too hot for the White House?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Every spouse of a Democratic candidate gets to be put through the wringer in every which way. Look at what the media did to Dean's wife, and to Kerry's wife. They get chewed up and spit out for dinner. They're already on Michelle Obama*, and Elizabeth Edwards has paid her dues.
Meanwhile, Lynne Cheney writes near-porn novels, Laura Bush runs someone down and kills them as a teenager, and, yee-haw, we never did get constant 24-7 news coverage of that sort of nonsense, did we?
If the media wants to decide to take a real close, hard look at the wives of the Republican crop, fine by me. They're going to do it to the Dems anyway...
Frankly, when it comes to all these conservative, Family Value, morality police poseurs, they should take a close look anyway. The Republicans are the ones who shriek about "FAMILY VALUES" and shove that down everyone's throats. Let's see their families, and hear about those values firsthand, shall we?
For example, the 3rd wife of Guiliani's. Yes, here here for the family values of dating while you're married, and then marrying after you're divorced -- two times already!! And the Catholic Church, well, just how many annullments is the Pope handing out to Rudy? So much for keeping the "faith."
And old diehard Conservative Fred's wife -- what is she, #2 or #3 for him? -- has a whole lot in common with the "Church Ladies" he's trying to win over to vote for him, doesn't she. What will all those pinched face biddies think about him and his 24 years younger tanorexic California Barbie Blonde?
In the end, it's all fair game. The Dem wives can handle the scrutiny, because they're all decent, upstanding women, and none of them are married to total wingnuts, like the Repub wives.
And if you're stupid enough to marry Fred Thompson, or Rudolph Giuiliani, then you deserve what you get.
One thing though...I don't know WHERE Bill Clinton fits into the equation...
*Catherine, you need to go read (or maybe not) some of Salon's Debra Dickerson columns. She's spent the better part of a few grafs arguing that Michelle Obama isn't black ENOUGH for the White House!

Click-Porn, Courtesy of Joan's Favorite Pageview-Ho
[Read the article: If we leave Iraq, do we lose for good?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Fess up, Joan.
You're just running this inflammatory, illogical, poorly written crap by the Wingnut's Favorite Stealth Weapon just for the page views and ad revenue?
You figure that if you throw more crap that will stir up the hoi polloi, you'll get more money in the coffers, eh?
Camille's clearly a fake liberal, as everyone knows.
But Joan, your liberal street cred is fading fast if you keep publishing this, and paying for it.
If you want to be responsible for the dissemination of this sort of reprehensible garbage, then go be a blogger for Little Green Footballs, or producer for Bill O'Reilly, and find us an editor at Salon who CARES.
I am utterly disappointed in you and Salon.
Feh.

I REST MY CASE... SALON HATES OBAMA... and Joan Walsh is Selling Out Salon
[Read the article: Hillary is from Mars, Obama is from Venus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Ever since the first drumbeats of anti-Obama crap started surfacing here at Salon, I've been suspicious.
Leading the charge, Debra Dickerson, Joan Walsh, and host of other writers and columnists who have found opportunity to call Obama, too black, not black enough, and now, a woman.
Joan Walsh, you should be ASHAMED OF YOURSELF for allowing Salon to so shamelessly and transparently trash Obama. Of course, you wouldn't be ashamed, because
YOU ARE COMMISSIONING IT!!!
You're the editor. You're the one who assigns and approves stories.
And now, there can be NO doubt.
Salon has taken a political stand, and is, in all of its columns and editorial, backing Hillary, and set out to ruin Obama's chances.
Constructive criticism is one thing, but this sort of absurd drivel, "Obama is an AFRICAN African-American" or "Obama is a woman" just puts a microscope on Salon's pure bias against Obama.
What a swizz, Salon. What a swizz, Joan.
Maybe you really do think there's a job with the White House for you if Hillary wins?
If that's the case, why don't you just admit it? If Salon is "for Hillary," then say it outright.
But don't pretend you're journalists, or that you're unbiased, or that you're serving a liberal, Democratic readership.
Because you're not.
You're serving Hillary.
Period.
And you are selling out your readers, Joan Walsh.
You are selling out Democrats.
You are selling out liberals.
And you are selling out Salon.
