Page Views, Money, Controversy, and Raking in the Bucks for Salon

Camille Paglia's return to Salon is all about page views. It's so that Salon can show big, fat inflated page view numbers to their advertisers, because after all, every time you click a page to read a letter, that's a page view, and with 20 pages of letters, that's a lot of extra views for one idiotic 4-page mess of an article.

Don't you get it, people?

It's all about money. It's all about advertising.

Internet advertisers pay based on the volume of traffic -- the number of impressions or page views a site gets.

More page views = more eyeballs = more money to Salon.

So the more controversy people like Paglia and Debra Dickerson create, and the more indignant letters we write pleading with Salon to put us all out of our misery by getting rid of these people, the more likely we are to see MORE and MORE of these types of articles.

Joan Walsh, in between her behind the scenes lobbying to get herself the White House Communications Director job should Hillary get elected (and clearly, Joan is doing her best to put Salon to work on THAT task), is sitting there figuring out how to make some big bucks for Salon.

And that means CONTROVERSY.

It's no longer about presenting articles and writers who are compelling or intellectually stimulating or liberal or whatever...

It's about MONEY...

MONEY...MONEY...MONEY...MONEY...

And controversy sells.

So, despite our protests, despite our failure to pay for premium subscription after years of doing so, despite our hundreds of letters bemoaning the descent of Salon into their own version of tabloid hell, you can expect not less -- but MORE.

  • Because Camille Paglia makes them money.
  • Debra Dickerson makes them money.
  • Obama bashing makes them money (and of course positions Joan for her White House dream job with Hillary).
  • Narcissistic internet nonsense -- like Amanda Marcotte -- makes them money.

If they could sign Ann Coulter herself, I'd expect Joan would be chomping at the bit to get her over here.

What's next, Salon? After you get Coulter on board, Gonna sign Drudge? Glenn Beck? Hannity? Maybe Michael Moore (hey, gotta toss toss a bone to the old-timer libs, right?).

Hey everyone...remember when Salon broke the story about the Abu Ghraib photos?

Remember when you could go get yourself a cuppa joe and sit back and know that you were going to read something you could really chew on -- that would make you think -- and would stay with you for hours, even days.

Remember when you were more likely to read about actual politics or world events -- rather than articles on Britney Spears/Paris Hilton/Lindsay Lohan, Debra "I'm blacker than you" Dickerson, Camille Paglia's monthly in-depth exploration of her naval, and "Why Obama's Hairstyle Makes Him an Unacceptable Candidate"?

Remember when Salon stood for something?

Yeah, I remember...sadly...

We Know Where Colbert's Sympathies Lie...

So let the fascist neo-cons, hypocrites, and Republicans -- and Debra Dickerson, of course -- go on Colbert and be made fools of...there's certainly enough of them to keep Colbert busy for years.

Maybe he'll book Camille Paglia and Joan Walsh for upcoming shows!!!

One can dream, right?

P.S. The sympathetic Dems can go on Stewart.

Right Guy, Wrong Time

At another time in your life, this might have been the right guy. No point downplaying the fact that you do love him, get along, great sex, etc.

But your daughter has to come first. That's just how it is. And that means not uprooting her for an unstable life in a new world with Mommy's boyfriend, who doesn't even like her anyway. What an awful existence that would be for a young girl.

If you love her, you simply can not do that to her.

It's Official: Salon is Definitely Out to Destroy Barack Obama

Joan, you are SUCH a hypocrite. Your column of a few weeks ago that dared to suggest that Salon didn't have an agenda is now clearly proven to be a load of utterly meaningless, self-serving crap.

Salon is on a mission to destroy Barack Obama, and you have made that absolutely, 100% clear.

I'm now under no illusions.

Salon's participation in the election of 2008 is basically as the promotional website for Hillary Clinton. Forget about political debate or discourse.

Salon is Swiftboating Barack Obama at every turn.

After selling your soul to the devil, I hope you DO get your payback job in Hillary's administration, Joan. But I hope you have a backup plan, because even with your unfettered brownnosing and Salon's "endorsement" -- and the benefits of Al Sharpton's support -- she's probably not going to get elected.

I keep wondering how disgusted I'm going to have to get before I simply delete my cookies and delete my bookmark and just move on.

Oh Goodie...

Guess you were too busy putting together your new blog, picking out drapes for your new office in the West Wing, and interviewing Glenn Beck for a columnist's job at Salon to have time to edit Debra Dickerson's barrel full of nonsense?

We know we can expect lots of shilling for Hillary and anti-Obama nonsense from your various Salon minions, including Dickerson and Camille "Rush" Paglia.

But now, the question is, how much direct shilling and Swiftboating of Hillary's competitors do you personally plan to engage in directly from your blog, under your own byline?

Us formerly happy Salon readers are just wondering...

Glenn...

Love your blog.

But if you're going to take on the issue of "argument by anecdote," charity begins at home.

Please start with Salon's own Camille "Rush" Paglia, and Debra Dickerson, two "writers" (we're using the term loosely) who clearly don't believe in research, and whose sole claim to fame is offering their own coupla-glasses-of-wine-too-many obnoxious dinner-party opinions, unencumbered by fact, and who seem dedicated to the destruction of Democrats, and in particular, Barack Obama...
