  • Just so people are aware...

    [Read the article: Texas governor orders mandatory HPV vaccination]

    Just some things to think about...

    From the CDC (1):

    Some girls or women should not get HPV vaccine or should wait:

    • Anyone who has ever had a life-threatening allergic reaction to yeast, to any other component of HPV vaccine, or to a previous dose of HPV vaccine should not get the vaccine. Tell your doctor if the person getting the vaccine has any severe allergies.
    • Pregnant women should not get the vaccine. The vaccine appears to be safe for both the mother and the unborn baby, but it is still being studied. Receiving HPV vaccine when pregnant is not a reason to consider terminating the pregnancy. Women who are breast feeding may safely get the vaccine.

    From the Gardasil Product Insert from Merck (emphasis is mine)

    GARDASIL has not been evaluated for the potential to cause carcinogenicity or genotoxicity.

    For pregnancies with estimated onset within 30 days of vaccination, 5 cases of congenital anomaly were observed in the group that received GARDASIL compared to 0 cases of congenital anomaly in the group that received placebo. The congenital anomalies seen in pregnancies with estimated onset within 30 days of vaccination included pyloric stenosis, congenital megacolon, congenital hydronephrosis, hip dysplasia and club foot.

    In the clinical studies, subjects were evaluated for new medical conditions that occurred over the course of up to 4 years of follow up. The number of subjects who received both GARDASIL and placebo and developed a new medical condition potentially indicative of a systemic immune disorder...

    GARDASIL == 11,813 recipients

    Placebo == 9701 recipients

    Potential Autoimmune Disorder

    Among Gardasil recipients, there were 9 cases of autoimmune disease: 1 Juvenile arthritis, 2 rheumatoid arthritis, 5 arthritis, 1 reactive arthritis. Among the placebo, 3 cases total, 1 lupus and 2 arthritis (2)
