If McCain gets elected, and the economy ends up in such a trash heap that Salon goes down the tubes, and your income goes bye-bye, then you'll care.
When you can't afford the gas to drive anywhere, and getting on an airplane becomes so costly that you can't go anywhere on your book tours, and the postage you pay to ship your books to customers goes up and up, then you'll care.
When food prices keep going up, and up, and up, and no one can afford to go to your seminars, or buy your books, then you'll care.
When banks fail, and your IRA or pension disappears like the polar bears in Alaska, and you have diddley squat for the future, then you'll care.
When everyone you know under the age of 25 gets shipped off to Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan, and some of them don't come back, and the ones who do come back damaged, then you'll care.
When your health insurance costs go up so much that you can't afford the premiums anymore, then you'll care. And when you get sick with something after that, then you'll REALLY care.
When the rest of the world decides it hates America so much that you can't even get a visa to leave the country -- but of course, you won't be able to afford the plane fare anyway -- then you'll care.
Yeah, Cary, this is a big deal, and I sure hope you don't learn to start caring the hard way...
And I predict that neocon republican trolls will be coming out of the woodwork at Salon to call for war against Iran, and proclaim the wonders of Sarah Palin...
I hear ya...it's not Salon's fundamental mission to get the Dems elected. But it has positioned itself as a liberal, progressive newsmagazine.
I'd like to think they want a liberal progressive America. But the constant harping on Obama for more than a year, and the institutional acceptance of the maxim "all criticism of a woman candidate = sexism" has done NOTHING to help the Democratic cause this year, and in fact, has helped contribute to the current political situation.
I'm not saying it's not real reporting, or that it's damaging.
But is this article going to help elect a Democrat in November? Is this particular article on this issue, vis a vis Palin, contributing anything to the national discourse?
Nope.
Not a bit.
Aren't you reading your own Glenn Greenwald? Don't you get it?
They're already setting this up as David and Goliath...
But they know she'll be fine. She's a politician, and she can think on her feet as far as coming up with spin. Go watch her Charlie Rose interview from 10/07.
Casting Charlie Gibson as Goliath is a joke. He's an amiable hack, and he's going to ask a boatload of softball questions, and then one "oh, looky here, here it comes, it's a tough question": as in: "What about your critics who suggest you were for the Bridge to Nowhere before you were against it" -- to which she will have a canned explanation, smile smugly, and that will be it.
And during it all, she'll also make one soundbitey, pitbull, snarky but sarcastic comment that will become THE soundbite of the interview, and will be repeated ad nauseum by all the other media, including here at Salon, to show how tough she is, and how she doesn't back down, and she's not afraid of the big bad Democrats and the media and the ugly elitists out to get her, the spin machine will continue on.
And in the Palin vs. the media David vs. Goliath contest, you know who will have won:
Sarah Palin 1 -- Media 0, zip, nada, zilch.
I notice you're STILL not doing a damn bit of anything media wise yourself to actually help the argument.
This is a war that is being fought in the media, and right now, if we have to rely on the current media -- you and Salon included -- to get the real issues out there, clearly, and expose the lies, and actually build an argument against McCain/Palin, then the Democrats are doomed.
And you'll realize that agreeing to talk to Charles Gibson is not an END to the Palin watch.
Are you AWAKE??????????????????????
Is War Room really going to keep asking inane questions about Sarah Palin?
-- Is Sarah Palin pandering to the right?
-- Are moron men voting for Palin because they like her legs?
-- Is Palin exploting her children?
-- Was Palin for the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it?
So yeah, yeah, yeah. We've heard it all before...
Is Salon committed to seeing the Democrats lose in 2008?
Does Salon have anyone left who does investigative reporting, or does everyone just sit around and write Huffington Post headlines, or "concerned" blog posts, and then go sigh on tv appearances?
Does Salon really just wish it'll all just go away so Hillary can run in 2012?
Does Salon intend to do anything to help the election, or just add more useless drivel to the "All Palin All the Time" media frenzy?
Does Salon realize that if they're not part of the solution, then they're part of the problem?
Does Salon give a damn?
Salon sure did do something about Obama.
Salon slammed him, "concern trolled" him ad nauseum, and helped contribute to the public and media's mass hallucinatory acceptance of the fiction that "criticism of a woman politician = sexism."
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
The accountability imposed by another country for the CIA's kidnapping and torture reveals much about our own.
Fox News' morning show plays to type, talking about whether Muslims in the Army should face "special debriefings"
The survivor and author is upset about comparisons some on the right are making to genocide
Once seen as a lunatic fringe, reactionary anti-women groups are courting respectability
