What if...

  • She has a problem during pregnancy that requires total bedrest, and can't even take care of their three children? Or if she's employed, she can't work, and they lose that income? Who takes care of her family and children?
  • After amnio, it's discovered that the child has Down Syndrome and her sister and hubby want her to have an abortion?
  • Sister and husband die in a car crash during the pregnancy?
  • Sister and husband get divorced during the pregnancy?
  • After delivery, it's discovered that the child has some serious disability, and sister and husband renege on their agreement, leaving the sister to file for child support and raise the child herself?
  • She dies in childbirth?

Seriously, Cary, you don't think the husband should be a willing partner in this?

Adios Governor Macaca!!!

CNN just said that, they can recount all they want, but in several other just as tight races where there was a recount in VA, the underdog only managed to acquire about 1500 votes...

So Governor Macaca does not get to become Senator Macaca, and, as George would probably put it himself, bein' a good ole boy and all that, he sure as hell ain't never gonna be President Macaca.

Buh-BYE George...

Some of Us Here in DC are Tired of Robin Givhan...

Count me among the people in Washington who have been tired for YEARS of reading Robin Givhan's breathless prose describing the fashion choices of political powermongers.

If I have to read another description of some visiting dignitary's dress or power suit, or delve into the psychological implications of Condoleeza's leather boots, I think I'm going to be sick.

That said, Robin Givhan's rise to success, and her popularity, is evidence of classic Washington at work. Here you have a city that is self-absorbed and politics-crazy that a $16,000 a year twerpy assistant to the assistant to the assistant staffer at some Senate office is considered far more "influential" than a $60,000 a year employee at a corporate office.

It's a city where there are women who will GLADLY sleep with Denny Hastert -- yes, the "galoot" as Garrison Keillor so aptly described him -- simply to be close to "power!"

Power means everything...and Givhan is almost always writing about power as conveyed by clothing, "Washington style" (which is often an oxymoronic concept...)

In the meantime, here are some upcoming Robin Givhan stories we will no doubt be seeing in the Style Section. (Mark my words, you'll see them, I guarantee you...)

* Barack Obama's effortless style...

* Comparing the sartorial styles of the presidential contenders for 2008

* Comparing the sartorial styles of the presidential contenders' spouses for 2008

* Washington's power women wearing boots

And no doubt, if Angela Merkel or the president of Chile come for Washington state dinners, we'll get an indepth breakdown on their outfits as well.

And of course, every time Hamid Karzai comes to down, it's like Christmas for Givhan!!

Frankly, I'd rather read see the ladies from "Go Fug Yourself..." tackle our nation's politicos and their fashion sense. It'd be MUCH more entertaining than paragraphs on the Armani collar...

In the meantime, I'm sure Robin Givhan is putting the finishing touches on tomorrow's piece on the political implications of Murtha's choice of ties...

YAWN...

The MEN of my Dreams!!!

You're right! I thought I was the only one who had a thing for Stephen Colbert!! And it's true...it does sneak up on you. You see this nerdy, geeky guy, and then you realize, hmmmm...he's actually quite hot.

I ADORE Alan Rickman...he is one of the guys on my all-time totally wonderful list. Truly, Madly, Deeply is one of my favorite romantic movies, and Alan Rickman is a sexy guy...

But you forgot another fave in that vein...

Sam Waterston!!!!!! Gotta love that craggy face and crinkly eyes! Loved him since he spotted a beard in Killing Fields.

OOO LA LA, BABY!

Anyone else?

Celebrity Bumps AND OJ in one front page...--- MAKE IT STOP!!!!!

Come on, Salon. You guys have Post-Election Fatigue or something?

What's next? A deconstruction of the psyches of the Olsen Twins?

A comparison of the self-destructive behavior of Lindsay Lohan as contrasting Marilyn Monroe?

An in-depth analysis of the social implications of Justin Timberlake's haircuts?

ARGH....

Follow the Golden Rule of Breastfeeding

Oh, for goodness sake, get over yourselves and your adolescent embarrassment over breasts.

Because as long as there are people out there, like Ben "Beavis & Butthead" Dover and our poster who thinks that dirty restrooms are a great place for babies to eat, mothers will face this sort of stupidity.

And remember there's one simple rule:

If it's a good place to give your baby a bottle, then it's just as good a place to breastfeed.

So if you think that the public restroom is a great place to feed YOUR baby or grandbaby, then by all means, banish the breastfeedings AND bottle feedings to public toilets.

And in the meantime, may that baby with ear pressure problems whose mother isn't allowed to breastfeed on a plane sit behind YOU on your next cross-country flight...
