Original article: Mel Gibson's family values

Southhamptoner

I can understand why you would regard Mel Gibson the way you do; he hasnt done himself any favours over the years. But - and first, a disclaimer, I am not even remotely religious and I have not seen a lot of Gibson's action movies - what you may not know is that he has devoted a lot of his wealth to funding the National institute of Dramatic Arts in Australia. And I mean A LOT. That is one reason why you see a lot of Australian actors and actresses in Hollywood and on broadway these days.

Gibson has also always supported a lot of productions in Australia; film and theatre - from the lowest to the highest. He has made an impact.

So yeah, he does come across as a bit unpleasant but that is perhaps simply because you dont see him at his best, which is a real shame. He's no saint, and i find his religious views weird, but it does appear that he is no devil either. The reality is he's a bit of an in-between sinner, like all of us, really.

Wow

Ive never heard of this film or the book before, but my ex-wife was extreme bi-polar and this review is ringing some very familiar themes for me. Not sure if I really want to sit through something thats so close to the bone but I'll think about it.

Waterboard him

Screw prosecuting Rumsfield. Just waterboard him and see if he thinks that's torture. Since his position is that its not, he should have no objections to that.

Why stop here?

You could do a graphic novel with all the ammunition available. If you use really sort words and really big pictures the wingnuts might even understand it.

mhgott

Sorry Mjgott, cant agree with you. Most conservatives are so stupid its a surprise they can put their socks on in the morning. These people think whatever they see on Fox IS the truth and everything else is socialist propaganda. There's no reasoning with people like: some of them are suicide bombers just waiting for a call up from anyone who cares to do it. And thats dangerous. Fox "news" is not entertainment: it's a public menace.

Ugly

Well, what can you say? Palin (Sarah, that is) is an idiot with no real life experience and her ambition will drive her to put the best face on her family. Combine those elements and the result is bound to be ugly. And it is.

Original article: His life as a dog

Intimidating dogs - what the?

On that question someone asked about why you would want an intimidating dog, Id say that says more about you than about dogs. I dont find ANY dog intimidating. But if one is barking and looks like it might bite I deal with it appropriately whether it is a Rottweiller or a silky terrior. About twenty years ago when I was a kid driving home from work I spotted a scared looking dog near our loacl dog shelter and thought it had escaped (turned out that people dump their dogs near there quite often instead of bringing them inside). Anyway, I pulled over, went back to the shelter and alerted them and the lady there asked me if I would mind coming out and helping her catch it. I said, no problems and while I was waiting for her to get her things I thought Id pat soem of the tiny cute fluffy dogs in one of the cages near me. There was a sign warning about that but I was pretty young. I stuck my hand out to this small fluffy thing and - crunch - it bit down like Id offered it a T-bone. Just then the lady came back and said "oh, be careful, they can bite". Really? No shit! lucky for me no harm done but the lesson is deal with what the dog IS - not what the dog looks like.

Oh yeah, and to those of you who worry about taking their big dogs out, if youre concerned use a muzzle. I never used one on my Rottweillers (bcos they were only brave from the back seat of the car!) but if I had doubts Id do that. I cant figure out why Bruno never had one...
