The first 3/4 was great and serious drama. My non-science-fiction loving spouse, who is also a defense attorney absolutely loved it. Then apparently the writers dropped acid and finished off the production during the peak effect of the drug.
I figure that Starbuck is a spirit that will lead humanity to earth. I just hope they're not too dissappointed when they find it's all McDonalds and strip malls.
I finally was successful in getting my wife to watch an episode I downloaded from iTunes. She is pretty fracking far from a SciFi fan, but after a few minutes of "Who's that?", "What's a cylon?", she settled down and got into it.
Her comments: "It's one show that doesn't assume its viewers are ignorant morons. You have to work at it."
I joined in during the second season and bought the previous episodes on DVD to catch up. Yes that was work. You have to listen closely, you have to think. Perhaps thats why the ratings are "anemic". If you want bread and circuses turn on Fox.
The only reason I can think of for not agreeing to testify under oath is that you intend to lie. My question to Bush when I heard the blather about executive priviledge and separation of powers was: "Just how stupid do you think the American people are?"
The answer to that question will be available November, 2008
Let's see... Israel is a liberal democracy that has been our staunch, unwavering ally for decades. On the other hand we have the Palestinians, who have an abiding hatred for the United States, elected a known terrorist organization for their government, and are so busy attacking and killing Israeli non-combatants that they don't bother to build roads, schools, hospitals or a functioning economy.
Hmmm... Which side should we support?
I love this show.
I try in vain to get my spouse to watch but am told that Sci-Fi is for losers. I try to explain that is't not about space and the future, it's about humans and their loves, faults, anger... but to no avail. I mean come on, the enemy are right wing religious zealots.
Did I mention that I love this show. When I found out that you can download episodes on Itunes I was ecstatic.
By the way I also never missed an episode of Buffy.
The real beauty of Paris Hilton is that she has parlayed an utter lack of talent into a thriving, lucrative enterprise. The rest of us who work for a living, getting up each morning and drudging through another day for our paltry salaries, look at Paris and think "Right on, Baby!".
She never pretends to be anything other than commercial trash, and in doing so exposes the basic truth of our modern pop/Hollywood celebrity. The old days of pop singers cutting their teeth singing in Gospel chiors in Deadhorse, Alabama are over. Talent, developed over years of work is besides the point, and probably a liability.
Let's remember that Israel was attacked by Hezbollah. The war against Hezbollah was not a war of choice or of aggression. It was a war of self-defense. Israel clearly came out ahead in any military analysis. It is also useful to imagine what the response of the US would be if a foreign nation attacked our nation, killing and capturing American soldiers.
She had spent her life observing and reporting on world events and decided, based on her experience, to support Israel, and to hold the surrounding Arab nations in contempt.
And this is bad?
Let's see... Israel is a liberal democracy that has been our staunch and unwavering ally for decades. The Arab nations are totalitarian states, run with brutal repression, who have an abiding hatred for the United States.
I wonder which side we should take in the Middle East Conflict?
The review of this book was quite good when not marred by obvious anti-semitism.
Israel does not negotiate with terrorists and muderers such as Hamas and Hezbollah, just as in the USA we did not negotiate with Timothy McVeigh. We executed him.
Gandhi liberated India from British repression, and I don't remember him blowing up pizza parlors to make his point. Mandela managed to end apartheid in South Africa without bombing busses loaded with women and children. King brought an end to legal discrimination in the US and somehow managed to do it without slaughtering people.
Let us be clear, Hamas is not an organization of resistance to oppression. It is an organization of murderers. You don't negotiate with murderers, you execute them.
Here's a suggestion to end the catastrophe. Perhaps the Palestinians should stop shooting rockets at Israel, stop blowing up pizza parlors and busses filled with Israelis, stop tunneling into sovereign Israeli territory and killing and kidnapping Israeli citizens. If the Palestinians stopped making war with the Israelis they might have peace.
But peace is hard. Making roads, building schools, getting up every day and going to work, all that is hard. Blowing things up and calling for the destruction of Israel is a lot easier.
I am sorry to burst someone's enthusiasm here, but fat is as bad as anorexic. It is unhealthy!!!!! We should promote physically fit (not obsessively thin) bodies and self-esteems. Promoting "I am big and beautiful" gives a nod of approval to the overweight problem that our society is facing. No, society should not discirminate against fat people. But discriminating is a whole lot different from promoting unhealthy habits and images. Same rhetoric, of course, extends to promoting sceletal thin as an ideal. Just thinking of those underware comercials for "real" women give me shivers.
