[Read the article: Honey, I shrunk my breasts!]

who *wants* to "openly discuss the stages of breast regression?" why are you and your friends discussing the size of your daughters' breasts? this is a bizarre form of navel gazing that is all too common among women. enough already.

give women a little more credit, please. The soapy nonsense doesn't delude women into believing anything; it *allows* us to delude *ourselves*.

[Read the article: I'll be alone for Christmas -- merrily!]

Even though Cary professes to salute the LW's independence, he doesn't quite seem to buy that the LW truly is happy being alone. His response implies that it is only due to the LW's reduced (in his view) circumstances that being alone happens to be the lesser evil of the alternatives currently available to her. In my view, the "concern" people tend to express about friends and family who choose to be alone is too often nothing more than a disguised expression of their own anxiety about being alone. The "concerned" people are the ones to be pitied--always scrambling for something to do, someone to be with. The person who is content with her own company is truly better off.

McCain appears to have been employing irony, or something like it. The humor relies on the contrast between the positons of First Lady and Miss Buffalo Chip, and unlikelihood of a woman being both things at once. Not because most first ladies aren't hot, but because, as one writer hinted at, the two positions are at opposite endes of the class spectrum.
