The conservative movement and most aspects of feminism

can work together; puritanism, "standards" "meritocracy" etc. but conservatives will have a hard time with their voter base if they accept abortion, so they have been desperate to postpose having to actually deliver on (at a federal level openly and effectively) their anti-abortion commitments. I sometimes get the impression that a lot of women would be more willing to accept abortion being outlawed if only women could vote on it and if pornography, strip clubs and adultery could be effectively outlawed and the laws enforced. This is certainly a bargain that the new pr driven female fronted anti-choice movement is trying to sell (although, so far, they've avoided framing the issue as clearly as I just did)

Your right that this couldn't be implemented legally, formally under our

current system, but there is a female fronted anti-choice movement that uses the rhetoric of womens' rights/empowerment, feminist anti sex rhetoric, the protection of women from sexual harrassment, etc. We saw them out in force during the Clinton blow job fiasco. There is a cultural movement afoot to combine traditional anti sex/comtrol of male sexuality values with economic and social rights and freedoms for women. They campaign to restore the dealth penalty for rape for example. How this will play out culturally and politially remains to be seen.

The political influence current or future of what I am describing may be

limited, but it strains credibility to deny that there has been and is a real feminist anti porn movement that wishes to use the power of the state to stop porn, prostitution ,etc. Was Andrea Dworkin a fundamentalist christian? Oh right, no one ever listened to her, that's why she was so famous and so widely published. In Sweden, by the way, it's legal for women to sell sex, but not legal for a man to buy it. So in every trick the man becomes a criminal subject to blackmail by the legally pure woman. I hope at least some partisan feminists can see how creepy that is. Where do you suppose the Swedes got the idea?

I hope you are right that women attach higher priority to freedom

than to control of men. I am somewhat heartend by the fact the after the Clinton blow job jihad it seems that most women and feminists could see that signing on with the right did them more harm than good. But will the Dworkins of the world be back when the fundamentalist right is no longer such a threat? There aren't too many fundamentlists in Sweden.

I'll try and find some links, but I can tell you that they are typical

right wing "think tank" products. They would never rise to the top without the extra boost of the right wing promotion machine but they are good enough that they can have some influence when they do. i.e David Brooks.

Hopefully no one is buying it.

the organization may discredit itself, but that doesn't mean that extremist

conservative organazations can't "mainstream" their ideas under proper conditions. These people were all over the media giving "balance" to every story when Clinton and the Dems were in charge. Now they have more productive ways to spend their time making policy for Bush and (formerly( Delay to implement. Don't forget the Swift Boat deal, although that was short term, but the conservative "legal theories" regarding vote counting and impeachment would have been considered wacko right wing nutjob fantasies until 10 years ago. I agree there will be no mainstream consensus outlawing abortion any time soon. Still, it has to be noted that the sociey as a whole, through it's political system, has done little to preserve acces in many places, although I guess this is mainly due to federalism and the fact that rural states are over represented. If "Dworkinism" is truly a never to be revived relic of the past I am very glad to hear it.

Maytbe the think that increasing the gap between their already high IQs and that

of the people they have to deal with would do them more harm than good. I doubt the results are valid, but since thinness for women is at some level s proxy for "attractive enough to have anyone/everyone react to me the way I you would like" it isn't really surprising that it would be highly valued. How many IQ points do you think men would give up to have any woman totally hot for them that they wanted to be. and they supposedly have fewer to spare.

The reason feminizing men is insulting is because men have to prove to women

that they can do somehting for women/a woman that the women can't do for themselves. If a man can't do this he is of no use to women and will pay for it. This is yet another example of willfull ignorance of biology inhibiting usefull discussion and creating conflict and tension unnecessarily, or at least aggrevating it by removing common groud for dealing with the situation.

You can fit more urinals than bowls in a given space, that's why they don't

want bowls for everyone. Are you saying that men and women wait in the same line for womnen to finish? Seems like that might create it's own problems. Maybe women should start using those devices that let them pee standing up. Don't men and women share public bathrooms informally now (women use the men's too, not the other way around) in some venues?

Monday, January 9, 2006 11:59 AM

It'll be interesting to see how it goes.

It should be understood, though, that men ususally pay for sex because they have relatively few other options. Women normally already have a wide choice of partners/situations, this will give them even more. If lots of women start doing this I wonder if it will be even harder for most men to get laid.

Monday, January 9, 2006 12:06 PM

Obviously some women want, collectively, to control men or

there would never be, or maybe now I should say, have been, a feminist anti porn movement.

Cayetana, it is gender neutral in EXACTLY the same way that it would be

gender neutral to say that we would have a gender neutral situation if we let everyone fight everything out with their fists and allowed the best man or woman to win. The fundemntalist deniers of evolution have got nothing in the willfull ignorance of biology department on a lot of feminists.

I believe fat old men would sleep with fat old women

if the women would have them and the men couldn't do any better.
