  • re: And so perhaps, as we leave 2007, on the precipice of a new world in which we might make thrilling history by electing the first female or African-American president

[Read the article: Campaigning while female]

Thrilling? if Nancy Pelosie is ANY indication of the thrills we have in store for us - and I notice how QUIET the feminists have been concerning the unbelievably anemic Pelosie - and the whoop they gave when the FIRST WOMAN was made speaker of the House, then we're in BIG trouble. Hillary could be a crone for all I care - her POLITICS stink on ice - and, considering the first woman speaker has been the WORSE in my memory, then perhaps feminists might want to play down this angle - lest the first becomes THE LAST...

  • Why did Nixon lose to Kennedy?

[Read the article: Campaigning while female]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

From wiki: "It has been frequently stated that those who heard the first televised debate on the radio thought that Nixon had won, while the TV viewers thought that Kennedy had won...University of Minnesota political scientist James N. Druckman later conducted a more rigorous experiment in which he showed the audio and video of the debate to different test subjects. His results confirmed the hypothesis that Kennedy won among TV viewers and lost among radio listeners. Regardless, the broader point which the anecdote is meant to support, namely the increasing power of television in shaping public perception of candidates, is indisputable. In addition, Nixon was clearly affected by his performance (and sickly physical appearance) in the first debate. He refused to watch any video of the debate for the rest of his life.

  • re: By all means, celebrate the pardon, but this won't be the last time a Saudi rape victim is sentenced to punishment for provoking her attackers.

[Read the article: Saudi king spares rape victim]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Celebrate? If the King had decreed that rape victims aren't criminals - and that this kind of outrage was forever banned, then there'd be a reason to celebrate. To find joy in the dodging of a bullet is short-sighted, indeed. it's great for the rape victim - it does NOTHING for every other Saudi woman or Muslim woman living under THAT kind of society...

excellent analysis. Rememeber when Obama didn't have a chance? I guess it became Clinton's time for dismissal.

The biggest problem with Clinton is how unlikable she really is. How she carpet bagged into NY on Bill's name, a guy who was treated to an incredible double standard by feminist Goddeses like Gloria Steinem while Clinton all the while pretended that ignoring Bill's ignoble behavior somehow served her purpose, or that philandering, while a personal matter, sure does make her look the sucker - but we weren't supposed to notice – and if we hit her on that, it was because she’s a woman – not a chump and a hanger on.

    But that was then.

SHE ALSO voted for the war and the patriot act - TWICE - and then voted the Iranian Guard terrorists in an effort to bolster Bush’s war drums towards Iran. She's done nothing to raise noise on oversight of Republican corruption as regards the war, and, like anemic feminist disappointment, Nancy Peloisie, has given up on calling George Bush to a far more rational justice than served Bill Clinton.

It wouldn’t matter if I thought Obama had the political instinct that Hillary exhibits – but when he won – no matter how much I dislike Clinton, I was worried that it played EXACTLY into Warpublican hands…

"Well, as a "white woman" (by late 20h century standards, anyway), the NAACP doesn't "speak for me" either, yet I acknowledge their coolness."

Here's their mission staement - which part do you disagree with:

"The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination. "

    between MacDonald and Nora Niedzielski-Eichner.

I've been reading MacDonald for years - she's hardly a far-right foot soldier - and her numbers are usually solid. She actually is far more convincing in her article than either Clark-Fory or the childish Niedzielski-Eichner - in fact, had she stopped short of offering up her own theory - about booze and hook ups, she would've nailed it.

  • re:EVERY LARGE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS, including Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Columbia, etc. So, if the Jews can have that, why can't the Muslims have their gym thing?

    [Read the article: Women-only workouts]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

red herring - the Kosher Kitchens at universities segregate FOOD and serving UTENSILS - not people. Anyone - and any gender - can come in and eat - just like ANYONE can order the kosher meal on a airplane.

  • re: If we have the colleges with the Kosher kitchens, then the muslim hour at the gym should be okay too.

    [Read the article: Women-only workouts]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Nonsense - when those Kosher Kitches segregate by sex, then you'll have parity to gender only gyms. this is intellectual inconsistency. Just a few posts down, Broadsheet celebrates the breaking down of male only clubs - or did everyone miss that?

  • what happened to my posts?

Because this is another useless bit of female sillyness that means nothing.

How about women boycotting taxis and organizing groups for safety?

How about a country wide stike by women and sympathetic men unil the government cracks down on raping taxi drivers.

How about a day of symbolic martial arts training?

But no - let's put on miniskirts and pretend that changes a fucking thing...

    Neither is the porn trade

    or domestic violence

and even rape is not limited to men victimizing women...

but most of the victims are women.

  • Back in 1968

[Read the article: Have you ever left your toddler in a car?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

or 1967, my mom left us in the car while she went into the store (quite common in those days). My brother was two, I was four and my sister was six. Somehow we knocked the car out of PARK and it started rolling. My sister saved the day. I remember many times being left in the car, but that was the most exciting - though we all saw a UFO once when my mom ran into the A&P on Mamaroneck Ave. It was just hovering above the store.

    that's a true story...
