Glenn - Great Ad! Thanks for the hard work on this (especially).

    Pedinska said:

p.s. all the donations I had earmarked for candidates for national office are being redirected to this campaign. And the folks I would have supported have been notified, in writing, about what it would take to get me back.

This is great and I, too, make sure the Pols I contact are aware of where I've sent my money instead of sending it to them. Please consider doing the same.

As a fity-something republican veteran from AZ who was planning on voting for Obama I've got news for him: He just lost one of the voters that (I'm will to bet) his "political consultants" thought he was going to reach by voting for this "compromise".

By voting for HR6304 he showed that he doesn't understand the basic job requirement of ALL elected officials: ". . . to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution . . .". He shouldn't have a seat in the Senate let alone the oval office.

I have a list of every member of congress who voted for this and none of them will get my vote.

to get Cindy Sheehan on the ballot in CA-08. I know, I know - she has a snowballs chance of actually defeating Pelosi, but she needs about 4,000 more signatures to get on the ballot.

I hope she gets the chance to make Pelosi account for her sins.

My reason for trying to get Cindy on the ballot is to take the pulse of Democracy in San Francisco (whether the results in CA-08 reflect the mood of the country is another matter).

What will it say about the state of the body politic if we can't find 10,000 voters out of 780,000 to realize that Pelosi has dishonored her pledge of office?

Because of groups like Accountability Now/Strange Bedfellows I still have hope for the survival of the Republic. If CA-08 is uncontested my faith will take another blow to the heart.

Even if a miracle should occur and Cindy gets elected AND it turns out that Cindy is totally incompetent it will be okay because as one of the most junior Representatives she would not be in a position to do much harm.

The Spring 2008 Issue of the Nieman Reports (published by the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard) is titled 21st Century Muckrakers: Who Are They? How Do They Do Their Work? (Click my signature to check it out.)

I have only started reading it so I can't comment on it yet, but based on the Table of Contents I wanted to let the readers here know about it.

Here are the the titles of some of the essays:

    Said:

americans are 'prepared' to be civilians, on-lookers as their betters run the country for the benefit of their betters.

That is not the definition of a civilian it is the definition of a subject. "We the people" are supposed to be the sovereigns in this country.

Thanks to the excesses of the Bush (mal)administration and the complicity of the Democratic leadership the sovereigns are beginning to get really pissed-off. Whether or not those sovereigns are upset enough with our hirelings in Washington to actually do anything about it is another matter. We will find out once we see if the Strange Bedfellows coalition has any success in getting rid of the worst of the Democratic congress-critters.

  • Ed, you're missing the point.

This isn't about party discipline; it is about the fact that some members of congress don't understand the basic job requirement: To uphold the Constitution. If they don't understand that now, what makes you think they will "see the light" once they have a firm grip on power.

I have already written to the DNC, the Obama campaign and those members of congress I have sent money to in the past who voted for the expansion of warrant-less wiretapping and let them know they will not be getting another dime from me. The money I had set aside for those campaigns has now gone to Cindy Sheehan and the Strange Bedfellows Coalition.

Member of congress can play politics with drilling for oil, health-care, etc., but the Bill of Rights is not a bargaining chip to be played in the grand game.

I forget which, said: "That which is most personal is most general." The whole point of the exercise was to tell the personal story of M.O. so that the Obama family would be seen as just another American family. She succeeded. I doubt that anyone who watched or listened to her speech came away thinking she was scary or threatening.

In fact, the post-game comments from both MSNBC and CNN had the republicans stating they were happy because team Obama hadn't advanced the ball. (Sorry about the sports metaphor, but I heard it more than once on both networks.) I disagree. By taking away the "they're too exotic to live in the White House" argument, the ball was advanced last night.

As for the trolls two points: 1) The old saw: "You can lead a whore to culture, be you can't make her think." comes to mind, and 2) I find it best to just ignore them: It's no fun trolling if no one bites.

Add my note to the list of people who would have sent money to Obama or the DNC if not for the FISA vote.

FWIW - My money went to Cindy Sheehan's campaign.
