If you live in Pennsylvania
[Read the article: Hillary's time of troubles]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]for the love of God (or deity of choice) please speak passionately with your elderly and senior matriarchs and persuade them to cast a vote for Obama, to take a chance on change instead of the perceived comfort of the past, to follow in Kennedy's words almost fifty years ago when he said the 'torch has passed'. Time to let the Clintons and the boomers to move on, enjoy their retirement and let a new generation of Americans take the mantle.

The presumption being made here is that all Republicans
[Read the article: Clinton more electable than Obama, Mark Penn claims]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]will approach Obama with the same vitriol and hatred they have for Clinton. The current polling numbers don't reflect that. Certainly the GOP attack machine will be in full swing (the whisper campaigns of Obama's Muslim background have already started) but clearly that type of campaigning will appeal only to those who clearly have no intention of voting for a black man or white woman for that matter. And any reporter with half a sack will call McCain on it, considering he was the victim of similar mud slinging in 2000 vis-a-vis his daughter.

Obama beat Republicans in Virginia
[Read the article: Obama's surge extends down the Potomac]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Obama not only beat Hillary in Virginia, he beat McCain as well. He took 142,000 more votes than all Republicans combined, and that's with Hillary taking 100,000 more votes than McCain.
Ok, a lot of Republicans probably stayed home for various reasons, bad weather, McCain is the presumptive candidate, they couldn't stomach either candidate, and so forth.
Regardless, in the tidewater which was a red state that is in transition to, um, purple, that's astounding.

Dude, it's just a movie...
[Read the article: "Jumper"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]not every American film, book, television show or whatever has to have some deep psychosis on the state of affairs of American culture and or the world...sometimes they're there just for the plain escapism of it...
and you're kidding yourself if you think that if you had this power you wouldn't use it to your benefit. I'm not saying you'd be as shallow and callous as the main character in this film but you'd be living a better lifestyle than you are now. And like you wouldn't jump (pun intended) at the chance to visit the Louvre after hours or vacation in Belize without having to pay the airfare.
And the ugly American bit...ugly person would be more apt. Apparently you've never been to Europe during the World Cup and had to deal with the Brits coming over for the games, or been to Peru and listened to the ugly things being said about you because the people saying them didn't realize you spoke Spanish or been an outsider surfing the "wrong beach" in Australia. Ugliness prevails, the national moniker just let's us know where the brute comes from.

When we look back upon this era in US history...
[Read the article: The fun and excitement of civilization wars (fought from afar)]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]one will have to ask which was the more evil, the enemy we feared or what we allowed that fear to transform us into? Truthfully, was McCarthy any worse than the Red Menace which he purported to hate so much and attempted to root out of American society? How is it we can scream with righteous indignation at the treatment of those captured by the AQI and at the same time freely incorporate torture with almost identical manner and reasoning as Nazi Germany did?
Ironically, as you pointed out, those proposing that we devolve into that which we despise themselves face absolutely no chance, unlike our troops on the ground, of ever having to deal with the repercussions of the actions they are advocating.
Excellent editorial Glenn.

I'm sure others have said it as well...
[Read the article: A new face for American diplomacy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]but those are the two main reasons I'm supporting Obama...that he can bring some unity to America after two decades of vitriol amongst the opposing parties...we've had quite enough of the pseudo hippies and the not so silent majority members fighting their cultural war from the sixties on through now and letting the country slide downward in the process, I say good riddance baby boomers...
...and what he could do within the context of foreign policy. There will always be other nations that see America as full of hubris and imperial hegemony but never in my life time (or at least my time of being aware of American politics, let's say 21 years) have I ever thought it was a majority of nations. It's time America once again become the "leader of the free world" and set the example.
McCain has little chance, Clinton might be able to do it somewhat but only Obama can appeal to Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
And as an added bonus we can break the two family stranglehold on our national leadership that has existed for 20 years.

Thanks for reducing my voting decision
[Read the article: The dude vote]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]to "I just don't like girls..." Truly asinine. See, I thought it was because I was tired of the vitriol between Republicans and Democrats, leary of the sleaze factor of the Clinton's, dubious of her claims of being more experienced, exhausted with Bush's Republicanism, foreign and domestic policies and wanting a new direction for the country, excited about Obama's ability to reach across various demographic lines and feed up with the same two families running this country for most of my adult life.
But no, it's just cause I don't like girls...thanks Ed for exposing that, now I have to figure out how to look my daughter and wife in the eye and tell them I don't like them or think they'll ever be qualified to do anything because they are girls...

Ready to lead from day one...
[Read the article: Obama's got ground game]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]well, that is if we could find our damn calendar, we're not exactly sure when day one is...nor how the inaugural process works...but don't worry because Ickes has a plan for that and there's no one more prepared to lead this country from day one, well maybe two or three if Howard can't figure the inaugural process out...but definitely by week 1, without a doubt.
If you can't organize and run a campaign, if you choose to ignore a majority of the state voting venues within that campaign, then how can we expect you to run this country, and the whole country, not just California and New York and maybe Ohio?

We all got to pay the rent somehow...
[Read the article: "Semi-Pro"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Ferrell as well.
