  • Enablers - Johnalive

[Read the article: The "hiding among civilians" myth]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

While it's not fairly obvious that johnalive is neither Jewish nor Israeli, it is fairly obvious that he dropped in on the news only within the past few days.

To bring you up to date, johnalive, a few weeks ago Hezbollah militants began a war with Israel by invading their territory and kidnapping Israeli soldiers. By the way, Hezbollah is a group who is represented in the Lebanese parliament and holds 2 seats in the Lebanese cabinet, and has spent the past 6 years turning south Lebanon into it's own private military preserve; you might even say they are part of the legitimate government of Lebanon.

So now you may know (but will want to deny) that Israel is not responsible "for launching into a reckless, destabilizing war of choice instead of carrying on like a bunch of fearful authoritarian followers".

I'm glad to fill in the gaps in your education, but I do need help with your "fearful authoritarian followers" line: followers of who, or what? Do you know?

And I'm not an Israeli either, but to use an old quote for your claim that you're a better friend to Israel, "with friends like you who needs enemies?".

  • Mel

This really is a good article, the first I've seen linking the Bush administration's rhetoric with hateful results like this.

Thank you for pointing out that Gibson is not an isolated 'cartoon drunk', but is representative of individuals who now feel they have the cultural backing they need to go public with their prejudices and hatreds.

Yes, George Bush has certainly been 'a uniter and not a divider', in that he has united all those bigoted, fearful, right-wing Christians and melded them into the New America.

Now what we need is a couple of good articles linking right-wing radio, Fox 'News' and other hate-speech media with this sudden need for the individual to go public with their own brand of racism. Surely they must take some responsibility for the outcome of their commentaries. Perhaps we'll have another 'Mel' sometime soon that will tell police (and the world), that they learned everything they know about hating their fellow countrymen from Fox, Mike Savage, et al.

    Thanks again for this article.

  • Quote of the Season

[Read the article: Bush: We have to destroy Lebanon in order to save it]

Another story that made some media, but was ignored by the rest of the world:

The general secretary of Hizbullah, Hassan Nasrallah, has summed up the battle, "We have discovered how to hit the Jews where they are the most vulnerable. The Jews love life, so that is what we shall take away from them. We are going to win because they love life and we love death."

There you have the middle east situation in a nutshell: "We love death". Sound like reasonable peace partners to you, or people who deserve the love they crave?

  • Reversal of sequence, Rob

[Read the article: Mel on the cross]

I agree with most of what you say, Rob, but I think you have the cause/effect of things reversed.

You state, "That's why Karl Rove uses "liberal" like it's a slander, because so many in this country have been convinced that it is.".

I think the reverse is true: So many in this country have been convinced that it is a slander by listening to Karl Rove. The country learned it from him (using the Fox 'News' vehicle of hate dissemination), not the other way around.

Of course, it's worse than that. Rove uses the word 'liberal' not just as slander, but to incite people against those he considers 'traitors'. I'm looking forward to when a murder defense lawyer states, "My client was only protecting his country from liberals; he learned it from Karl". At least the truth will see the light.

  • Some of my best friends are...

[Read the article: Mel on the cross]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

A long time ago I learned that people who say, 'Some of my best friends are Jewish (or black or latino)' simply use that as an excuse to hate the rest of them.

It's okay to hate an entire race/nation/people, but hey, some of my best friends are...

    What a load!

  • Another kind of funny?

Whoa, anonymous (and you know who you are), time to cut way down on the caffiene, maybe the meth, too; take a deep breath and a walk in the park.

Yoga, meditation, maybe read the comics a bit....Lordy, I'll surely pray for you!

  • Columbine Terrorist?

[Read the article: And keep a close eye on those Macacans, too]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This is the first time I've heard of linking the teenage students shooting up their school, and real terrorist activity.

Throwing this in does nothing for your case but muddy the waters. What next, bank robbers added to your list?

  • Description

Thank you for the best description I've read yet of George Bush: Creature.

  • Branded yet...

You bring up an interesting thought. How will an administration that has spent so much time judge-bashing, demeaning and disrespecting judges (remember the Schiavo case?) get any judge to want to side with them?

A big thank you for this link. Watching her splutter like a robot that's been unplugged was perfect. Would you like to hear a song, Sean? Daisy, Daisy...
