  • Who is protecting the Constitution?

[Read the article: Maybe they need a marriage counselor]

Although I'm not surprised that our 'representatives' and those who have sworn to uphold the Constitution neither represent us nor uphold the Constitution, I was still shocked by the exchange quoted here. 'You are no more a protector of the Constitution than am I...'. Should they be admitting that to us?

Isn't there anybody in Congress, the Supreme Court or the Executive branch who really is trying to protect the Constitution and therefore protecting our rights as citizens? Our country really is backsliding, and soon we'll all be living in the '50s again...the 1850s.

  • A Few Bad Apples?

Funny how Bush seemed so vague about this...as if he wasn't the 'war president', as if he didn't have the title of Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the U.S.A.

As the C-I-C, shouldn't the ultimate responsibility with Haditha rest with him? Yeah, right...

  • Hiding among civilians

Very interesting, in an article about the 'myth' of Hezbollah fighters among civilians, that the author would start off with an example of Hezbollah setting up in a civilian area. So the point is....?

On the statement, 'Throughout this now 16-day-old war, Israeli planes high above civilian areas make decisions on what to bomb', most people who actually follow these events are aware that pilots don't get in their planes, take off and decide what they are going to bomb. In every case the decisions on targets are set by regional and local commanders based on intelligence reports. No pilot ever gets to decide what his target will be, nor is he given choices of targets.

So how accurate is the rest of this article? With the number of mis-statements I've found, not worth the effort of reading.

Concerning the fact that Rep. Tom Reynolds has 'oops I forgot' to mention what party he belongs to, it's possible to contact him through the site to ask why he hasn't mentioned the 'R' word in his website. Just use the 'I want to volunteer' button, and use the address fields to ask him why he doesn't mention he's a republican.

    Example:

    Address: Why don't you

    City: mention your political

    State: party in your website?

    It's simple, try it yourself.

If you, or anyone, thinks it doesn't matter who wins in November, or who the next president is, then they've either been not paying any attention to what has happened in America and the world since Bush seized power, or they were born just 5 years ago.

Either way, it is an astonishing statement by anyone that there is no difference between the parties. Yes, they all pander to corporations, yes they may all sell out, but if you think the world would be the same now if a Democrat was the president, then, well, where have you been?

Interesting point you make about Salon.com promoting a government propaganda machine. I assume you have copies of the receipts, requests for funding, advertisements perhaps, that prove that Salon is promoting anything, rather than just reporting on it. Slanted reporting, perhaps, but to charge them with promoting (ala Don King)a government propaganda machine is pretty much an admission to not knowing what Salon is about.

And I guess what bothers me, to use your phrase, in all this is the people who fire off comments based on annoyance and not thought. Can't we just take a breath and think before spitting out some absurd diatribe? It's worth a try. I can't wait to see the arguments against thought that are bound to follow...

  • U.N. Hiding Among Hezbollah?

So now the solution is to stop the fighting and deploy a multinational force along the Lebanese border south of the Litani River.

What a good idea. First, we need a name for them. How about something catchy like, United Nations Interim Force in Lebabon, UNIFIL for short. Yeah, that works. Now, we can put them on the roadsides in Lebanon to ensure the safe passage of missles from Iran and Syria to Hezbollah bases in civilian areas.

Here's another idea: The UNIFIL forces can take their naps during the over-the-border shelling of Israel by Hezbollah, and wake up in time to record the bad Israelis responding. As a finale they could even watch the invasion by Hezbollah of Israel and wave the victors and their 2 Israeli captive back safely to their enclaves.

Okay, seriously, it hasn't worked for the past 6 years, so why should it work now? It isn't surprising Israel doesn't trust the 'peacekeeping' forces; UNIFIL has been watching Hezbollah move anywhere from 11,000 to 13,000 missles into the area, in violation of just what UNIFIL was there for, to supervise the DIS-armament.

But maybe their orders left off the DIS part. And now perhaps the U.N. Interim Forces in Lebanon should take their share of the responsibility for this war. 'Peacekeepers' indeed!

Hello anonymous (an original name, that!).

I'm not sure what your point is. You put a few quotes in your letter, followed by a statement that has nothing to do with the quotes. For example, where in your opening 3 quotes do you see the word Katyushas? And yet your statement says Katyusha as if somehow you know from the quotes that they were used.

And you are wrong to state that Beirut is too far away to launch Katyushas. No place is too far away to launch them, but lots of places are too far away from Israel to do much damage.

Anyway, despite this I know you had a point in here somewhere, I must have just missed it.
