Ms Armstrong states that a Buddhist or Confucian would be very offended to hear that he or she was not practicing a religion. It might surprise her, then, that no less a personage than the Dalai Lama as entered into a discussion of the very subject, without taking offense. I do apologize, I do not have the text at hand or I would cite it.

On BBCA last year. I truly hope that they bring it back for Season 2, but they (BBCA) have really gone downhill. Nearly all their programming now seems to be reality shows. Don't we have enough of those produced here?

  • Chris Carney

As much as I would love to see any ad targeting Carney for his alliances, I fear it may be too late. Carney ran in the PA Democratic primary unopposed. The two Republicans running in their primary were remarkable only for their vying as to who was the most conservative, a word featured prominently in all of their advertisements.

As always, thank you Glenn for your continued reporting on this important issue, which someone evades the MSM.

Thank you Glenn for your response. Please don't take my concerns to mean that I think he should be allowed to retain his seat, simply that I'm not sure that he will waver in his apparent commitment to see telecom immunity enacted. I've been faxing, calling, and e-mailing all of the blue dogs, Hoyer, Pelosi, etc. and will continue to do so, Carney included.

I'm assuming that any compromise bill would require another vote in the Senate. What are the chances of a Dodd filibuster?

You probably know they endorsed Joe Lieberman last time around, even after he spoke out against ensuring that "morning after" contraception be made available at all hospitals.

The aide with whom I spoke claimed mine was the first call she'd gotten. I did my best to impress upon her the urgency of the situation and said that I'm waiting to hear the Senator speak loudly and boldly to this issue.

Despite my many phone calls to him, my own Representative, Paul Kanjorski, voted for the FISA amendment. I called him last Friday to tell him I'd never vote for him again. He is being opposed this year by Hazelton mayor Lou Barletta, who has received national attention for his tough guy anti-undocumented immigrant stance (a real gem, this guy). Additionally, Kanjorski has received some negative press recently on earmarks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77zYUEHIHIo) and in another YouTube clip wherein he pushed someone holding a video camera.

From the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader 17Jun2008:

Republican Lou Barletta would defeat 12-term incumbent Paul Kanjorski by 5 percentage points if the election were held today, according to an internal poll released Monday by the Barletta campaign.

Conducted by Susquehanna Polling and Research, a Harrisburg-based Republican polling agency, the results show Barletta would receive 47 percent of the vote compared to 42 percent for Kanjorski. The poll shows 39 percent of voters believe Kanjorski deserves to be re-elected.
