Please, just stop
[Read the article: What's worse than watching your teams lose? Watching them win]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The notion that Boston fans are happier when they're miserable is a ridiculous notion that only makes sense from an outsider's point of view. Boston fans were never happy being the cursed losers. That viewpoint was only promoted by a few prominent (I'm looking at you, Shaughnessy) local columnists who have a financial stake in creating this myth of the cursed franchise. The national media, especially Fox Sports, were more than happy to pick up on it because it made a good story line to tell to people outside of Boston. If you really think Boston fans are suffering a "profound identity crisis" because of their teams' current success, I can only say that you must not know any Boston sports fans at all. To a person, every one I know is ecstatic that they now get to root for excellent, well run and successful teams. Spare us all this lazy and false pop-sports psychology. It's an argument that's been made plenty of times before, always by an out-of-towner projecting the storyline onto a situation that doesn't warrant it. Boston sports fans are happy. Just let us be.

Don't swift boat McCain
[Read the article: John McCain and Bush's torture powers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I don't have any particular love for McCain (I actually don't have any love for him at all), but the "wet start" theory is pure BS and shouldn't be brought up at all. If you look at video of the fire, McCain's plane was positioned on the edge of the flight deck with nose pointing inward. In other words, his engine was pointing out to sea. Even if he had wet-started, the flame would have just gone out towards the water, nowhere near the plane that shot off the rocket.
And to the original "wet start" poster here, your account comes from an anti-semitic website that dislikes McCain for his support of the "Jewish Mafia", whatever the hell that means. I wonder if you knew that or not, but either way, check your sources.
I find it ironic that in response to an article criticizing McCain for hypocrisy on torture, a bunch of people who probably howled in protest over the swift-boating of John Kerry (and rightfully so) are lamenting that the media won't do the same to McCain.

Calm the (-) down Northwest
[Read the article: John McCain and Bush's torture powers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]My post was only about the wet start posting that was going on a few pages ago, "my (overheated) friend." Believe me, I think McCain's actions on torture are despicable, but I also believe that the best way to respond to that is through legitimate means, not stupid conspiracy theories and lies (only talking about the wet start thing here, so don't go crazy).
Hopefully you'll take a second to actually try to comprehend my posting before taking what I say on one subject and assuming I'm talking about something completely different.

@Northwest
[Read the article: John McCain and Bush's torture powers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It's funny that you would "respond" to my post by attacking me for a position that I never even commented on. If that's what you mean by comprehension, then so be it.
All I said is that McCain shouldn't be swift boated (using dishonest innuendo and lies) over his service record. Did I say he was right on torture? No. I think he's wrong and he out of anyone should know better. Did I say he shouldn't be attacked on substantive issues like torture? No. Fire away.
As far as the "wet start" thing (and no, a few comments on a web-board isn't going to "google bomb" McCain), you can dispel any doubt lingering in your mind with about 5 minutes of research on Youtube, like I did. You'll see a grainy little dot jumping off the nose of his plane, which was pointed in toward the flight deck. Isn't the modern world wonderful that this is at our fingertips?
Personally, I'm an Obama supporter who still believes in what that man is trying to do in elevating politics above the gutter. As such, it pains me when I read some isolated posts lamenting the fact that "we" couldn't swift boat McCain on the Forrestal issue (I'm not talking about you, Northwest, don't get your panties in a bunch).
Now that I've established my liberal bona fides will you stop trying to stuff straw men in my mouth and get some rest, as I'm about to do.

Your Question is about 10 years late
[Read the article: Does Madonna still matter?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]And the answer is no.

It's surprising
[Read the article: We all need a little Swift Boat in our lives]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I always thought the swift boat attacks dishonored all veterans and implicitly called into question every soldier who earned a medal for actions in combat. I would think that any mention of "swift boats" would be anathema to veterans. I guess in politics the ends will justify any means.

[So and so] can't win
[Read the article: Tight race in Guam caucuses]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]There are polls showing Hillary beating McCain by a larger margin than Obama would beat him. There are polls which show Obama beating McCain by a larger margin than Hillary would beat him. Why is it then that we only hear Clinton supporters spreading this hypothesis that OBAMA CAN'T WIN!
For any poll that shows that Obama is not as competitive against McCain I'll show you one that says that Clinton is less competitive. The simple fact of the matter is that polls concerning the general election are completely meaningless at this point. That doesn't stop Clinton supporters from trying to create the impression that Obama is unelectable from these inconclusive polls.
In case you haven't noticed, Clinton supporters, your candidate of choice is one of the most hated politicians in the country across the board. If that makes her the Democrat's best bet this time around then god help us all.
I never used to understand the seemingly mindless Clinton hatred by some people, but now that I see the Clinton machine's divisive, win at all costs strategies - directed at a fellow Democrat, no less! - I start to see why so many Americans dislike and distrust the Clintons.
Memo to Clinton supporters: she's not in this to validate your belief and support for her, she's only in it to further her own ego.
