Pew's poll, while fun for us Dems, is really an outlier. A look at all the polls, which is what realclearpolitics.com, pollster.com, 538.com and others do, provides a much better understanding of what voters might be thinking. All of those sites have shown a more or less steady level of support for the two candidates the last few weeks.
I'm not sure if much can really be learned form cherry-picking outliers like this.
A critic said Crist "just blew Florida for John McCain.”
I can think of a lot of reasons for McCain losing Florida, and none of them have to do with Crist making it more convenient for citizens to exercise their right to vote.
I don't think Obama could win AZ.
BUT, if McCain has wavering support in his home state, it spells big trouble for him elsewhere. :-)
which I didn't know until now.
It's been bad enought that Lieberman has been supporting McCain.
But if I was a senator from a party who put his ass in a chairmanship, just to find out he was undermining the same party that put him there by camopaigning for the other party, then that would be an unforgiveable sin and betrayal. I mean, wtf, what will the Dems be getting by having him in that position anyway? I think it was a necessary evil compromise the last 2 years, but adios, Joe.
I hear you Glenn.
I'll be phone banking this weekend for the No on 8 campaign. Sadly and frustratingly, so many of my neighbors have Yes on 8 yard signs.
What's up with the Pro Prop 8 ads running on this site?
What's up with the pro Prop 8 ads on this site?
What's up with the Yes on Prop 8 ads I've seen here today?
Now I will HAVE to watch it! Sounds like a fun way to put off work a little while longer and get out some of this election angst that I think we are all feeling.
Thanks for the write-up.
Classic Rove.
Not only are there election-stealers on the loose, but they are black militants! So in other words, a vote for Obama is a vote for a militant black agenda.
Rove sure knows how to push the rightie panic buttons.
Good riddance. Enjoy the wilderness assholes. CIt's ok though, Caribou Barbie will still be there to feed you mooseburgers and whisper sweet nothings.
a beautiful excerpt.
Yes, it would be great to see a Franken victory.
But the fact that vote totals seldom change much, or at least enough to change outcomes, suggests that vote counters generally do a pretty good job.
That's a win for democracy.
no, no, no!
Although unlikely she could actually win--you never know.
Stranger things have happened.
(a) still a US Senator, and
(b) the de facto leader of the Democratic Party?
I can see crying foul in 3 months over this, but this criticism seems a little premature.
No hot dogs and macaroni and cheese?
It exposes them for the idiots that they are.
I'm just glad she is talking turkey pardons instead of helping with the McCain transition team.
We really dodged a bullet this election!
I did not vote for Hillary. I'm tired of Clintons and Bushes. There are 300,000,000 people in the U.S.: surely someone without one of those last names is capable of governing the country?
Thanks for writing this Glenn. I'm tired of spouses, offspring, and children viewing elected offices as some kind of vested right.
is a bore.
Besides being a terrible president, I'm beginning to see in the waning days of presidency just how strange he is. He truly baffles me. I knew some of his policies were odd and not well-founded, but I admit I just don't really understand what makes him tick.
So torture is wrong when it's a Bush policy, but okay when (if) it's an Obama policy?
to this long, rambling public dumping?
Powell is a RINO, not a TRUE kook-aid drinker like he is.
The Republican tent has gotten quite smaller the last few years.
come up with a list of 911 reasons why he shouldn't be senator.
my wife did it for another reason: to allow her to have some control in her young life. As a child experiencing the turmoil of her parent's divorce, food was the only thing she thought she could control. We all cope with such traumas in different ways. Unfortunately, hers was destructive.
She has successfully managed her anorexia for several years.
"I can't imagine an anorexic being kind to children or animals, or helping at a homeless shelter, any more than women with synthetic breasts are willing to talk charmingly to nerds and lonely guys who aren't rich. "
Tomreedtoon, my wife is a special ed teacher. She gives money to animal shelters, friends and strangers who are poor, and is helping raise her two (non-biological) nephews. You really should think twice before spewing such ignorant generalities about people.
Is not whether VORP is good or bad tool or whether more advanced statistics should be used to analyze baseball or enjoy baseball.
The point is that being willfully ignorant about the latest developments in baseball analysis, then bragging about such ignorance is bullshit laziness and stubbornness. The writers are professionals. They have an obligation to their readers, if not themselves, to try to learn something new about the God damned game.
Yep, I agree 100%. Nice.
And I would like to add that writers and fans have used stats such as RBIs and batting average to evaluate players almost since the game was created. So now that stats have gotten better, we should ignore that progress and instead utilize methods that are not very good or aren't very revealing, simply for the sake of some kind of mystical baseball statistical traditional purism?
That doesn't make any sense.
