  • John, John, John...

[Read the article: Kerry gets a turn]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It's great that you are showing some backbone and finally beating up a swift boater but geez, why didn't you do it in 2004 when it would've really meant something?

  • Does it really matter when it was made?

[Read the article: Romney and Coulter, BFF?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Long before the "faggot" comment, Coulter had said so many vicious, baseless, and loony comments that any Republican with a sense of decency or political intuition should avoid enhancing her stature by posing with her.

  • Is this the best they've got?

[Read the article: Does Andy Rooney hate America?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If this Anny Rooney piece is the best example that they can find of a vast left-wing media conspiracy in journalism, then there really isn't much evidence that such a conspiracy even exists.

  • The Blog-Beltway Pissing Match

[Read the article: A beautiful mosaic of anti-blogger hatred]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Is this all there is to write about?

  • AJ will not become a boss

[Read the article: "Sopranos" wrap-up: The blood-dimmed tide]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There is no way now that AJ follows Tony. It is impossible. Becoming institutionalized in a hospital, crying like a baby, etc. are major signs of weakness in the mafia world that woudl completely preclude him from having any sort of roll in a crime family.

  • Justice Meiers?

[Read the article: White House tells Taylor and Miers not to testify]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Thank God the Senate had enough brains this one time to keep this crony off the court. Granted, her replacement Samuel Alito is shaping up to be a terrible justice, but at least we will not have the embarassment of watching Justice Meirs invoke Executive Privilege to avoid spilling the beans about the Bush Administration's misdeeds.

  • The surprising thing about all this

[Read the article: Dick Cheney's heart]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

is that Cheney actually has a heart.

    That's newsworthy, IMO.

  • Oh he's a magician, alright...

[Read the article: The artful seducer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

and his biggest trick is to make the money of thousands of desperate men disappear.

  • I agree with WS WIlliams

[Read the article: Craig to cop: "I'm a respectable person"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

While I'm glad to see yet another conservative homophobe get his comeuppance, the sordid details that are emerging are embarassing and painful. I cringed while reading about how the Senator claims he tends to pee.

I'm almost starting to feel sorry for him.

  • If you suggest to Bush that he should learn Mandarin...

[Read the article: Why George Bush should study Mandarin]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

then he will spend the following few hours searching for Manarinia in his atlas.

  • Woo-hoo, go Bill!!!

[Read the article: American flag pins are for idiots]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This is on the money, bro!

  • Oh no, you didn't say this, did you?

[Read the article: I'm in love with my bandmate]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"I admitted to this woman that I have been spoiled in this life, that the girls I have been with have mostly been the perpetrators of the relationship."

It sounds more like a therapy session. No wonder you're struggling. Don't dump on your dates. Keep them fun, interesting, positive, and wanting more when the date ends.

And to the LW: he sounds like a shy guy. I know because that is exactly how I used to behave, until I wised up and took a few chances. So I agree with those who say that he really does like you, and with those who say "Give him a smooch"!

    Less talk, more lip-lock.

  • Big fucking deal.

[Read the article: Obama captain: "I may have to resign" over flier]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Seriously.

  • Moondogger is right

[Read the article: Obama and Clinton on Reagan and Republicans]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Let's not kid ourselves: HRC supporters better be comfortable with a McCain or Romney presidency.

Because that is what a HRC nomination will bring us.

  • What STILL infuriates me about Nader

[Read the article: What will Nader say on "Meet the Press"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Isn't his die-hard supporters, it's that the man himself knowingly perpetrated a lie in 2000 that there were basically no differences between Dems and Repubs, which as we've seen the past 8 years, couldn't be farther from the truth. Nader is an intelligent, astute man: he knew better, but he perpetuated this bullshit anyway.

    F.U.C.K. H.I.M.

He also knew (and SORRY Nader die-hards, but the exit polls in 2000 showed this) that he would be removing a significant number of votes from the other lefty Candidate, Al Gore (who as you remember, also happened to write a book on the environment earlier in his career). Those votes would've easily been enough to tip the election to the lefty candidate who had a good chance of winning and as another poster wrote, eliminate the awful Florida scenario that played out. But nope, Nader's personal crusade for the presidency trumped these concerns. He got what he wanted.

It's a wonderful concept--in an ideal world--that anyone who meets a few basic qualfications--can run for president. But in the real world of two party politics, where there are real consequences, the results of such vote-splitting can be devastating.

  • @Shiral

[Read the article: What will Nader say on "Meet the Press"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    You are 100% right.

And you could add that we would not have Justices Alito and Roberts with a Gore presidency.

  • @brightback

[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"I am always amazed by the lunacy that emerges when Democrats get lathered up about "the spoiler issue". Do they engage Nader and his voters?"

    Wasn't Kucinich very similar?

He ran in a primary election among democrats and lost.

  • Hate to say it but Alex 116 is right

[Read the article: Obama shows that dismissing slimy right-wing attacks is not difficult]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

We might all admire Obama's reasoned response and strongly agree, among ourselves, that his counterattacks are warranted and effective.

But this is not a crowd representative of the general voting populace. Before we start congratulating Obama on his tactics, let's see if they actually work.

  • Glenn, I think this is different than 2006

[Read the article: Obama shows that dismissing slimy right-wing attacks is not difficult]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

While the Dems in 2006 did a great job standing up to the right-wing attack machine, Obama's candidacy is different. As an African American man with a Kenyan father and a Muslim family background, his candidacy unfortunately is ripe for racist and xenophobic attacks. Yeah, many of the folks who buy this stuff decided long ago they weren't going to vote for him anyway, but many others quietly question whether a person with his background really is sufficiently American enough to run the country, even if they won't admit openly to having such doubts. People may not understand or be interested in tax policy, FISA, or universal health insurance, but they do understand, or at least they think they understand, and are interested in the concept of loyalty to America.

I just don't think these fears or attacks are going to go away very easily. In fact, I expect it to get much, much worse. It's sad to say, but I think candidates, especially with his background, have to wear the lapel pins to get elected.

What I said was jibberish. But unfortunately, to a large number of Americans, that jibberish is important.

    I wish it was otherwise.
