Several years ago, a little before 9/11, they replaced G. Gordon Liddy in the morning slot with this Beck character. I know Liddy is nuts when it comes to politics, but back then he didn't talk much about politics, and his show was actually pretty entertaining. Then I tuned in one day and there was this weirdo that had a lousy voice, and his big thing was talking in a really sarcastic voice about anything he disagreed with. He had no talent.
As much as I despise Limbaugh and Hannity, I will admit that they are talented broadcasters. I don't understand the rights facination with this man that seems mildly retarded, high functioning, but mentally impaired. If you're going to listen to lies, it would seem that you would at least want to be talked down to by somebody that is a talented broadcaster.
I guess the difference is that with Limbaugh, Hannity, and most of the others, they know they're lying, even they don't really believe the nonsense that they are spewing, it's just to make money. But Beck is stupid enough to actually believe this nonsense. So I guess it's a matter of being able to relate to him, he actually believes the stupid shit they believe. On some level they can tell Limbaugh and Hannity don't really share their inane beliefs, but now they finally have somebody that does.
There really is something wrong with these people.
This was the right thing to do, and it should be that way across the board, regardless of party. The power of incumbency is so powerful that a governor shouldn't be able to just hand it to any crony of his/hers. All governors should be able to name a temporary replacement that cannot run for reelection, and a special election should be held for a permanent replacement.
I live in Oklahoma, and we have a daily reminder in Senator Inhofe of what the power of incumbency can do. Oklahoma and the rest of the country suffers this fool because our corrupt governor at that time, Frank Keating, appointed him when Boren retired early to become president of OU. Inhofe never could have won the nomination starting from scratch, but now he's there for life because of the incumbency factor.
Mass. did the right thing, even if it was for the wrong reasons. This procedure should be required by all states.
I enjoyed the series of articles, I've always found the world of radio facinating. Reading about this talentless man that was a drunken loser well into adulthood, drifting from job to job, failing at all of them. Until he found an audience so stupid that they would enjoy listening to this mentally challenged man validate their ugly, empty opinons. He's like Bush without the rich daddy.
I always find it strange when I read about people that go on a spiritual journey, and they don't come out the other side an atheist, or at least an agnostic.
Thanks for linking to that, she's great. Not just her Kirk Cameron rebuttal, look her up on youtube, she has a lot of great videos about her views on religion. I agree with what some others have said, Salon should hire this woman.
Personally, I hope Sarah Palin runs as an independent. It would be hilarious to see the republican lose 20-25% of the base. Those would also be some fun debates, Obama and whichever sacrifial lamb they run against him, ripping that empty dress apart, as she winks over and over again into the camera.
But Chuck, what if you're wrong and the ancient Egyptians had it right, and you were supposed to be worshipping Ra all these years? Or what if the Norse were right? Or what if the muslims are right? Don't you think one of the myriad gods that people have worshipped is going to be pretty ticked that you turned your back on it, on the off chance that it happened to be real.
That whole "what if you're wrong" argument is so hollow, the person asking it never applies it to themself. I know, I used to make it myself, up until a few years ago I was a believer as well, so I'm not too hard on believers. Just remember, everybody that ever believed in a deity was just as fervent in their belief as you are of yours, and somebody is wrong.
Well there you have it then, if your god turns out to be real, or any of the others for that matter, I'll say "oh well." If it allows me to speak before it, in its infinite love, dispatches me into the lake of fire to burn for all eternity (or makes me push a boulder up a hill for eternity, depending on which deity turns out to be real), I'll have a few choice words for it.
But I understand where you're coming from, I used to say the same things, pretty much verbatim. So I'm not going to insult you. I don't have a problem with anything people believe, as long as they're not killing people over it or shoving it down my throat.
One of those guys was a doctor, he's probably done more for society than Roman Polanski. He's a talented filmmaker, but he raped a 13 year old girl. I'm glad he's finally being brought to justice.
I don't know who Shara Palin is, but if you meant Sarah Palin, then yes, that does make my day. In fact, I'm hoping that she runs for president as an independent in 2012, that would really make my day. I doubt she would seek the republican nomination, Romney, Huckabee, and whoever else decides to run would tear her open like a soft shell peanut in debates. But I could see her bypassing that and pulling a Perot. I would be willing to sign any petition and donate money to make that happen.
