Thank you for remembering
[Read the article: Salon's People of the Year: Sgts. Omar Mora and Yance Gray]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I remember vividly how moved I was by the Times editorial that these two men and their companions wrote, and then how bitterly disappointed I gradually became as their words were swallowed in the war-ether that surrounds us. Against all of my previous experience, I actually believed that their testimony--reported from the heart of battle, and directly and thoughtfully expressed--would have an effect that no previous observations about the Iraq war had managed to mount. Well, although that belief has been disappointed, I appreciate this salute by Salon to Sgts. Mora and Gray, and, by extension, to the five other men who bravely took on the grave responsibility of speaking truth to power, as apparently fruitless as it may have been.

Bikers and a Gun Shop
[Read the article: David Brooks' fictitious defense of his industry's behavior]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Jeremy Scahill presented a short video film on Bill Maher's Real Time last night, in which Scahill interviewed a handful of bikers and a gun shop owner somewhere in the Pennsylvania countryside. EVERY ONE of them said they were going to vote for Obama, or were tending that way--and gave their reasons for doing so directly and thoughtfully. David Brooks should get out more.
